According to a survey undertaken by the US Motorcycle Industry Council, their domestic market enjoyed a 12th consecutive year of growth in 2004. But the interesting factor was the huge growth in the numbers of female bikers.

Since 1990, the number of women riding bikes has almost doubled in percentage terms, with one in ten bikes in the US now owned by a female rider.

According to Eric McGraw, manager of Harley-Davidson's Rider's Edge education program, "Women are a huge factor in the rising popularity of motorcycling." He said 40 percent of the students in the program since 2000 have been women.
