View Full Version : Who thought an RS50 could be so much fun?

I went around to a mates place the other day for a BBQ and some beers.
He had just bought his son an aprilia RS50 for his early xmas present (lucky bugger). his son is 16, i thought it was a really weird choice for a first bike. Surely a 250 would have been the go.

then it was helmet on and time to take this little 2 banger out for a test ride. Wooooo this is fun. you really feel like a school kid whilst ringing it to death. in the corners is where it is so much fun. light and just wants to be ridden at full tit everywhere. no top end speed though :( but it is a 50.

so i have a new bike on the wish list. not the gsxr750 i thought i wanted. but a little 2 stroke and a zxr636 is going to end up in my garage this summer. i need to get out and ride one of the aprilia 125's to see if that might be the ticket. but i still want to stay with the small 2 strokes.

awesome fun, i'm almost tempted to get a little 50 to race this little bugger around the block on:devil2:

It's all fun and games until someone does it on your stretch of road

I had a ball on my Suzuki A100 (100cc 2-stroke) - scraping the pegs round corners, throttle plenty open, gear change every few seconds... great fun round the side-streets and back-roads at legal speeds :niceone:

probably a different beast to the modern little aprilias though.

Maybe he was referring to the noise of screaming 2 strokes?

"feel like a school kid whilst ringing it to death"

I must be missing sumtin here? I thought we had all done this. The small 2 strokers full noise and zzippp goes the motor and stops the backwheel spinning. Strip, replace bits and hone all by our self done in the garage, and then back out again. Then test a mates one that has a few more cc's. Sell yours and buy a bigger one, and do it all again. Add to that the cutting of the piston skirts, bore the thingy, stroke the thingy, replace carbie with something bigger, machine the head down, open up outlet, change muffler and cut pipes. And change sprockets.

Or maybe I am just showing my age. Maybe todays kids have no idea?

Unless you were meaning to 'race around the block' at the speed limit then one could consider it to be dangerous.

Thanks for the grey bling!

it's a 50cc 2 stroke. you know how hard it would be to push that over the speed limit?

yip. at least it isn't going to rattle my windows loose like some of the harleys that come past my house. :scooter:

I guess it depends how fast you can run... I can do over 80kph on my push bike on a nice down hill with a tail wind.

I'd rather the rumble of a harley than the noise of someone doing their zip up next to a microphone....

Anyway back on point, if it's as much fun as a little 2stroke dirt bike then I'd be keen to go for a blat if I could get my hands on one

I took my little 1972 Honda CB175 twin on Syd's run last month. It's not really a moped but the fun factor is right up there. She red lines at 10,500 rpm. I'd forgotten how much fun these small bikes can be.
