Man, saw three of those crazy BMW motorbike/scooter roofed things. Anyone got a webpage or some info on them?

I'd love to do a wheelie on it, youd roll in a 360 circle

What do you guys think of them? I think they are a bit on the unneccessary- why dont you just get a car side.

Oh also, are they scooters or bikes? :P

There is two types that you speak of.....

The first type: They do actually have a name, but right at this moment I cant recall what it is.
There is one floating around New Lynn at times.... spoke to the owner of it a couple of years ago.....
I belive they are used around the bottom of town (Auckland) for delivering things..... The one I saw in New Lynn was of low cc rating... and classed as a scooter

Second type: But on saying that..... now I could be wrong, but didnt BMW bring out a few and they cost a fortune (Thousands and thousands of dollars)..... they are fitted out with a radio, window wipers etc. Those ones are classed as motorbikes...... cos they are higher in the cc rating.

Back to the matter at hand, you're refering to a BMW C1, available in 125 and 200cc engines. http://www.kevinboone.com/mc-c1-200.html

They seem like a damn good idea, I just don't think I'd want one.

You must feel like a dork riding one. Saw one in town, the guy looked a little shady, open face helmet, aviator glasses, and big queer looking cheesy smile.

Guess thats BMW riders for ya.

C'mon, it's got two wheels, it's part of the brotherhood!

Probably for suits who want to be mobile but not wet. Good on 'em if they want one.

It was the guys from BOTY who made it. Quite cool.

As I would not willingly afix my ankle to the frame of my bike in such a way that I would be dragged along the road by the bike should I fall off, so too would I not ride one of those C1s. All the disadvantages of both bike and car - fuck all protection in an off and unable to escape from the damn thing.

I think they're the dumbest thing I've ever seen - even the Suzuki FA50 has more cred than them.

I've ridden one!

I got to do a test ride of a C1 for the late, lamented Used Motorcycle Guide (now part of Used Bike Guide... but I digress) and they're quite good fun, in limited doses.

When you first get in, they seem very unwieldy, what with all that weight above your head. And all the putting on of seatbelts (they don't go if you don't wear your belt) is a faff. But once you're under way, they're actually quite poised and balanced and will weave through a set of cones (yes, I had to weave through cones) with ease.

You do need to keep them on the boil though... dropping off the revs when rolling up to the lights you can feel that weight over your head destabilising you a bit.

The ABS option is definitely a good idea - watching BMW's test rider stand one on it's nose (on a slippy display area floor) was very impressive indeed.

If you ever get the chance to try one out, give it a go - they're surprisingly better than you'd think. But the thought of riding one in busy commuter traffic? Hmm, I prefer my SV any day of the week.

Thing I really want to try is one of those Gilera DNA's - they strike me as fun, and I reckon they'd be great for local nipping about.

back to the topic... I am actually pretty keen on a C1, its much much more pratical to use in place of a car. for example, if you are going out to town, where the heck are you going to store your jacket / pants / helmet specially when you want to go for boogie.

(only down side is if you want to take a girl home..... ) !!!

and also with the C1, you are protected.... no need to wear bulky leathers or jackets. It really makes sense for communting, but not weekend riding.

think I need to take one for a ride

The C1 with the BMW F1 colours is owned by one of the guys at work. I have a feeling they've discontinued making them, but if you go into Experience BMW behind the newmarket pools, if they've got any left I'm sure they'd let you take one for a ride, they feel disconcerting at first, but you get used to it
