What would you do?

(the below is hypertheotical)

New bike, 3~4 week old GSXR750. Slide it down the road, gravel rash to rear seat/fairing, side fairing, small scratch to engine cover on both sides, scratch to paint on frame on both sides, scratched screen, cracked plastic on front crow, small paint chips on tank, dented muffler

1.) Claim insurance now and lose no claim bonus, and possible that same might occure (touch wood) and have to claim / fix the same again.

2.) Not claim insurance, do patch up job. Wait for another time when I drop it to claim the whole lot.

my point is that if its fixed fully now, there is nothing say that I won't happen again (touch wood). It'll be cheaper for insurace from risk management prespective to not have me claim now, but potentially put 2 accident jobs into 1 as it'll be cheaper for the insurance company overall for the repair. (not scaming the company, but saving them money!)

If I do drop it again, would insurance treat it as 2 claims and that would involve 2 lots of excess?

Would insurance allow me to claim like months or years down the track?

Would insurance buy into my logic?

tkns.

Sounds expensive. Claim now...bugger the NCB. If you wait & try to claim with a second one, & the assessor spots something/smells a rat, You are up the creek & will (possibly) never get cover again as well as being denied your claim.

I believe that most insurance companies would only repair damage that they have been advised about as soon as practical after the accident. If you believe that there are marginal benefits in claiming now then you should still advise your insurance company of the damage and provide an estimated cost of repair. That way they may still accept it as a claim some time in the future.

However the hypothetical damage you have mentioned would be in the thousands to bring back up to new standard, so I would certainly claim. BRM had a Ninja (from memory) that simply rolled forward off its side stand and fell over. The list of replacement parts (without labour) came to well over $5000.

If you are that worried about falling off and dinging it, don't ride it - or get a smaller bike. Pretty simple really. Don't try to scam ins. companies :nono: It'll hurt if you get caught. Unless you have the ability and tools required to fix the repairs to a reasonable standard, use your ins. - Thats why you have it

hmm, tricky one. really depends on if you dont crash and its there until you sell the bike, then are you gonna be able to take a lower than going rate for it??
what i would do is get it quoted to fix off your own bat and if its not too far off your excess then go for it. cause you never know whats going to happen to you in the future... once upon a time i had a few claims against me (now too old to count, Yeah!!) and it was hard to get good insurance premiums that didnt resemble the figures of the national debt!

I'm only half taking the piss here..

From what you've said, bikes are becomming a big black hole for you. If they're becoming such a fiscal burden, you might be better off getting it fixed up, selling it, and replacing it with a C1 for the meantime.

That's assuming that you were serious in your thoughts about their practicality in the C1 thread.

Depending on insurance company and the assessor they may not cover you for a previous crash as you did not make them aware of it at the time. Also if they see some dodgy previous repair they may start asking questions.
Get the thing repaired now under insurance, its why you got insurance in the first place?
