Well done Daffyd.
Not much choice really, but Kaka Point Tavern could also be a lunch meal stop instead of Owaka on the round trip.
What foodie options are there at Owaka?
No matter what, the Saturday ride will be a roundabout part repeat ride. Just the nature of the remoteness of Tautuku, eh.

Owaka has a couple of good food options and Daffyd, Normajeane and I have one sussed, been speaking to management and they're in with us.;)

Ok I see, so Owaka is the likely place, mmm for some reason miSTa was pointing towards the bottom... at Fortrose.
Owaka sure would be closer to strike earlier in the day.

*CHCH people*

A heads up for those coming down from Chch, just be aware that there is roadworks south of Ashburton, it's a 30km/h zone for about 3-4km. They are re-surfacing the road, so please take care!! (They may have finished it by the weekend, or is that wishful thinking!?)

Take care folks and I'll see you on Saturday!

Where the words 'Papatowhai - Niagra Road' appear on the Google photo there a cluster of building. That's us. - opposite where a creek flows out onto the beach.

Ha oh, as long as it is higher than 30 octane, it should not be diesel at least. But it would be wrong if at least one sucker did not fill there bike with the stuff on a KB jaunt.

I guess from the bottom, Tokanui which is just beyond Fortrose or if you overshoot try Papatowai store but neither will be cheap. The Invercargill Licensing Trust will be cheaper, but hey you might strike it lucky and with your suave looks and flashing eyes, you might get it cheaper!! BTW Normajeane posting in case your think scummy fancies you!

Looks like a good trip. Mataura is still in the ILT area, and you cannot buy from a store in the area (I suppose that includes Tokanui! but it has a pub). Ride safe and see you in Tautuku. Oh yes, mind the mozzies! NJ

Okay; sorry for replying so late but I been working and receiving medical attention.

The lunch is definitely at the Catlins Diner in Owaka and is timed for about 1:30-2:00.
This is to give them time to clear out the normal lunchtime rabble. SD, NJ and I more or less planned a ride to Kaka Point with lunch on the return leg.

The proprietor is very keen to get a pic of the bikes in front of the diner so he can put it on his website.

They are making up a selection of salads and a selection of cold meats for us. They also do gluten free.

The petrol at the Papatowai store is 91 octane and they also sell diesel for those with Moto Guzzis and/or KTMs.

I think that's just about covered everything. Ride safe, all and we'll see you tomorrow or Saturday.

Actually Mataura is a separate trust. I think Tokanui is in the Mataura Licensing Trust area.

Great to see all those friends and catch up with the goss - it's a shame it's 12 months between meetings for some - hey, speaking of meeting, where are we going to have the next KB gathering??

BTW: I took the XN (and had a blast on those twisties), it developed a high frequency 'buzz' or vibration at over 5,000rpm but I THINK I know the likely cause - got back to Chez Scumdog to find the left bar-weight all set to go AWOL, hanging by a few threads of the through-bolt.

Big thanks to the organising peoples, you did a great job sorting out a great venue.

Mint ride down friday via the scenic and somewhat deviating route, particularly fun roads out the back of oamaru that i haven't been through for at least 20 years, pretty good weather and dry except for a bit of rain in omarama while we were inside having lunch.

A great couple of nights catching up with some old faces and meeting some new ones, a few quiet drinkies and a few more noisy ones. Nice little tiki tour down to the caves on saturday, although someone could have mentioned the half hour walk to get there so I could stick my shorts in, motorbike pants are definately not designed for that carry on. Yummy lunch at the diner, and equally yummy bbq for dinner, and I actually made it to bed at a presentable hour.

Lovely day today for the ride home by a slightly more direct but still deviating route, after stopping in for a wee visit in dunedin on the way past. Bike went great all weekend except for one little issue that left me sitting in the middle of the waitaki bridge  but after a loooong push the helpful guy at the glenavy garage took a break from working on his camaro to find some tools so I could sort it.

All up a pretty damn good weekend, about 1500k's on the bike on some really good roads, and a few more stories in what's left of the memory bank. Will see if I have any decent pic's once I extract them from my phone.

Must be time to start thinking about the next one

Made better timing on the way home, daylight, sunshine and dry roads helped!
Dumped bike and gear at home, grabbed car and went to watch youngest at gym club. Did my best to stay awake until safely at home on the couch, when I unleashed the snores dying to get out! Will work on getting photos up asap.
We also saw a car on its roof on our way home but it was quite a bit further down the road from Whistling Frog, were there two maybe? They didn't need help when we stopped to ask, so just carried on.

Yo yo, yeah, how would ya be?
The weekend of last full of glee.

The week so to speak
I was somewhat weak,
No time to report.
For my daughter, I had to do what I oughter, or I would be up for the slaughter.
She is recovering, and thats been very pleasing.
They will decide a treatment, to cement,
The road to "right as rain" no longer in pain, Its been insaine!

I must make some time to wite a story of the glory.
Yo yo, homeeee's

I have pictures, some had me in stitches.
Most will stay in the vault, not my fault.
To post could cause a revoult.

Hooooo heee hoooo hoooo wooooo oooooow!!!!

In the next day or so I shall sort me thang, ding dang.... dong.
I will try not to rhyme this time, or make it sound like a rap, hot stepper, hand me some pepper. The KB rallies a keeper, grim reeper, a rally in a vally, much better than TV.

Kick it, make me sick.
Out.

5am was plan, did not dive a damn.
7.22 jus' after a poooooo. eeeeew
On the bike.
With all me meat.
Looking for a sweedish tourist to use me sausage as a lozenge.
15kg of meat on me seat.
Of course,
Think me a horse?

ding ding ding

I had me heading, south south south
Timaru, me tank was through. Gas as I went pas't
Palmaston, after much water
The bladder weigh a ton.
Dunedin, bike again needin feedin.
Balclutha time to think of a drink and to pack it in me sack.

Then to Owaka, not to slack'a, xknut's in me rear, no fear. Time for ginger beer.
Great feed indeed.
Wood carvings so grand.....they would cost a grand.

Up to road we rode.
to a place with no face. A camp, not damp.
Sun was burning, hydroponic I was yearnin.

Woodstock, who would give a fock.
Set me bed, where later I would play dead.

A walk and talk.
Spud shootin, checkin

Much meat took a seat.
Hot plate was it's fate.
Heat and eat. Thanks yo's for donation, it'll be going to a foundation.
in da KB name, give us some good fame.

Goin Loco... my lord... squiggle jiggle, yeah yeah.
Music best to use it,
Dance and prance, so bad not to glad.
That HOT, shots, spud gun aint got nuthin, nuthin.
I said no, she said so, go go.
Dont say no to a nurse, I must trust.
Had some with no regret, but did fret.

Some more dance, thought I was in France.
Good time sublime. One more time sing it.

Hydroponic to bionic...
miSTa was a risk taker, readin bout quakes.....
God sakes
No doubt making precautions before lettin it rip!!!!
Stink stink stink!!!!!

Fire works, sparks.
Dark
Night into day.

Morning was dawning.
Food, talk, sack packin,
Cleanin preenin.
And off, one by one yo yo
Away bound.

To Omarama, camp cabin.
Lock on me door, no homees gonna come stabbin.
Pub for grub.
Hot Tub, no no no no. Money aint funny, best swim in the dunny.

Home home, Lupins road side, Home ward bound.

A weekend. That was it.
It was that, the weekend, you know it.
You did it, I did it, rocked it, loved it.

Next year, another beer no fear, who will be thare?!
Northern South is what came out of many's mouth.

Try uploading the album to imgur.com

It belongs to a 1999 ST4 900 and the WOF was issued in ChCh. I won't give out the reg no.

Some of us fear the unfamiliar, change is bad mkay.

But picture wise, the two notable things from the trip are the view as you come over the hill to the bay, and the cave which I suspect wouldn't translate well to a badge picture.

Ghost_Bullet
28th December 2010, 19:10
The cave would be awesome, my sugestion, would be the cave, just a black badge with the writing on it. There ya go, no more worrying bout the picture, black with maybe a little white dot in the middle, as the entrance to the cave.... EH?

For me the first shot SANY0150a1.jpg epitomizes my signature recollection of the Catlins. When I first saw the shot I said to myself "I know where that is."
I checked my shot against this and it paled by comparison. I thought I had made a good image but I must defer to your superior talent.
This was a good shot.
This is now a great shot.
It would be a good badge photo.

Hey team!!!! Here I am... I know I know its taken awhile but well you know how it is. Anyway I've just spent some time reading through the thread and catching up on posts and having a hearty belly laugh!!

Looks like the Saturday night went really well and well yeah i was sorry i missed it!!!
Silly me:violin:

anyway now that things are almost back to normal I just want to post a few of my pics in here and thank each and everyone of you who was there and those since who have been to visit.

What a time to have a crash!!! We have such an awesome team when something like this happens and I just love "nurses" who ride and cops who ride and well just everyone who rides. I believe I made some fairly hairy statements while under the influence of whatever that stuff was that the ambo's gave me!!!

I had a great ride down with Neels on the day before and am so glad I decided against riding his bike home after lunch!!!

Well as most of you know my beautiful purple girl is no more. I consider myself to have been a very lucky girl to have come out with the small amount of body damage I had. Every sunny day that goes by and I can't ride, I'm reminded even more.
The good news is I have bought a new bike and I got a fair amount of ribbing at Woodstock for buying the same thing but I'm happy about that.
Let the pictures tell the story!!! See you all out there soon. Preferably on two wheels but a cage will do for awhile.
