someone a while ago mentioned electric scooters.
I took this beast for a ride recently and by gosh it was a bit of fun.it definitely felt quicker than most 50cc scooters off the line and felt remarkably stable.
Made me wonder if the future of bikes is gonna be electric.

well, The future of bikes won't be combustion engines.....
And god damn, That thing is ugly.
Someone should kill it, burn it and bury it.

I'm looking at that, and it looks somewhat bicycle like. I GUESS that means you wouldn't need any of the following:
* WoF
* Registration
* ACC
* License
* Be over 16

Do you need someone to come and do your photoshop work for you Frosty? :Pokey:
Give it 5-10 years and I think full scale electric bikes will be fairly viable for commuting on, and perhaps even short-ish open road rides. The full torque at any throttle opening way that electric motors deliver the power sounds they'll be great fun to ride!

A geezer in the know I was talking to said it's feasible to have race-bikes electric and high performance already if you want to pay for it. It gets more expensive (and bulkier) as you want longer running and higher top end speed. The instant torque would be interesting.

I take it that that is not the touring model?
But yes, this is the future. Not for this generation .. but not too far away. Think I heard something the othere day indicating that there are about 90 years of dinosaur juice left. (Or that might have been coal in a Southland mine.)

Not a lot of street cred' there so it would call for a dark visor so no one knows who you are. Where would I put the wife?

Funny enough my wife is in New Plymouth, at the Fleetwood Mac concert, with my credit card in her purse, while I'm at home looking after the kids.....

LMFAO.

It should be faster off the line as electric engines produce max torque at the minimum rpms. Thats why you will see electric cars bragging about being faster than ferraris off the line.

Yep, at the moment you can strap an electric motor on anything and as long as its under 200W, its just a power assisted bicycle, no extra costs.
I do like the idea of 100% torque 100% of the time, but its the power storage thats holding everything back. Though, you'll never be able to replace the sound of a big 90degree twin.
And that image/sound/feeling is a massive aspect of riding for most bikers with their Harleys and their tassles... Just using Harleys as the example here...

I had a ride on an electric scooter, (Vespa style,) and found it quite grunty.
Wouldn't like to ride it any great distance, though.

I took my laptop which is less than an a year old of the power for a while while watching a U tube video, lasted about 15minutes before thing went to sleep. We still :bash: don't :bash: have :bash: decent batteries for Laptops, how are they going to last 2 minutes in a glorified bicycle?

electric bikes are very popular in china. About 1 in 2 scoots is electric over there.
Few electric sports bikes out there now. But I see all scoots being replaced by electric before sports bikes. Hogs will always use 100 year old tech - so expect them to be electric in 2120......when all other bikers hover

Electric bikes CAN be interesting - check out "Proud Daddy" in the Drag Bike forum.
And look up "Killacycle" in American drag racing.

Not sure... It was just lying around. My boss imported a few and I don't know if he's decided what to sell them for.
