Okay I stand before you as a dumbarse, no surprise to most of you, but entering my race career and being a preperation junkie I need to understand the various flags that will likely be shoved in my face by our friends the marshalls.
Obviously having experience the chequered flag on numerous occasions I dont need help with this one:wait: , but the others ,what are they what do they look like and is there a special one for ""Frosty cursing behind me"" ?
anyone help, is there a website with them shown ?? maybe I can print them stick them on my tank:msn-wink:
Help appreciated

Green - Dropped and waved
Start Race - Used at the start of the race (usually held up, then dropped and waved.
Green - Held.
At a marshalls point means end of hazard.
Yellow - Held.
Caution - There is a hazard or slow vehicle. Hazard is clear at next green.
Yellow - Waved.
Serioud hazard and no passing. A geen should be waved later to indicate that the hazard has ended. For both yellows I prefer if the marshal also points at the hazard with the other arm if possible.
Yellow and Red (A striped flag)
Slippery surface (such as oil, water, dust etc). Again I prefer them to point with other hand.
All riders must leave the track immediately
[b]Black with orange disc
Often with riders number - or waved at a rider - that rider must leave track at the next exit. Sometimes a normal black flag is used and a riders number is displayed.
Red - Waved
Everyone has to stop racing and leave the track - buy normal means.
Red - Held
Appears at the end of pit lane to indicate that riders can not exit onto the track.
Blue - Held
Always waved.
Blue - Waved.
At the end of pitlane - means traffic approaching (on track).
During practice it means faster traffic approaching, hold line and begine to slow gradually in order for them to pass.
During a race it means move off the racing line as faster rider about to pass. You need to do this straight away. Generally it means move to outside.
This is one flag that should always be explained at the riders breifing.
White - Held
One lap to finish. New DORNA regulations also use it to indicate machine change allowed (I guess for the new wet weather rules). In this case - every marshals post will display it.
White with red cross - held
Ambulance on track
White with red cross - waved
Ambulance needed at that point.
Checkered
End of race. You are allowed one more lap and must enter pits.
Some others
Yellow with black cross and riders number means that rider must enter the pits.
Generally they should always be explained at the riders briefing - to make sure everyone knows what flags are and are not being used on that day. Special meanings are explained.

Only ever seen blue flags at car/bike meetings. They are always waved furiously for the whole bike race, very amusing.
All the flags and their meanings are in the MNZ Manual of Sport which every licenced rider will have received but very few have ever read. Check the "red" flag and what you as a rider should do.

actually seriously dude--ask baby bikie-he knows all the major flags off by heart
as someone else posted
Easy way to remember
Green means GO
red means stop
Yellow means slow down
Blue means--get outa the way (frostys lapping ya.)
Black -- Youre naughty get off the track
White -last lap
Chequred means end or race.
Dont believe me--ask baby bikie.
The full MNZ rule book can be found on http://www.mnz.co.nz/competitionrules.aspx

THere is some funny rules in that manual.
Rule 10-13-3
For Championship road races and endurance
road races of more than 55 minutes – any
breather pipes that come out of engines or
transmissions must discharge into the heat
resistant catch bottle. The breather pipe’s must
be of a clear reinforced translucent material and
be visible to the rider in a riding position.
Never seen a modern road sport bike that has breather hoses visible to the rider while they are on the bike. I have a cbr 600 and the cylinder head breather hose is under the airbox which is under the tank. You'd have to be of a rather odd build to be able to see it from the riding position.
Gunna be a bugger for that upcoming endurance race.
