Well, they sort of go hand in hand -dont they!

Browny's Brewery and Motorcycle Museum
is on SH 2 just 8km south of Katikati on the corner of Lockington Road.

I called in there and met the owner and brewer Malcolm Brown today- nice bloke.

He is opening later this week and has $250,000 of classic race bikes to display already and is looking for more...
Malcolm has spent many years over in Perth where he owned a similar operation and brewed and sold 10,000 litres of beer a week.

He is also the western Australian 250 road race champion for 2006- and he's no spring chicken!
Hes a retired bike mechanic and raced an Aprillia

Later, Browny is planning to build chalet style accomodation on the site to cater for riders travelling through.
By this weekend he will have the beers flowing, coffee and cabinet food and a lunch menu up and going.
He has got a great outdoor area, with a wood fired Pizza oven and a sand pit for the kids.
Inside there is big screen TV with GP racing and MX and Red Bull Enduro stuff playing.
Ben Townley will be bringing his bike and a selection of his memorabillia over later this week to go on display there.

There is a Kiddy corner with lots of quality biker related toys and another TV for them too-

Call in and say Hi to Brownie!

Yeah, that'd be right. Mud track, fallen logs, boulders, yep, pretty much a New Zealand main state highway.

I reckon if he wants to ride his bike there via the bush then we should make every effort to encourage him.

Dude, the 'forest' is the Kaimai ranges. It's a bunch of honking big mountains. Only way through them that I know of is Thompson's Track. Mate got his Norton Atlas over it many years ago, but the way the 4wd buggers have fucked it up nowadays, I think even a ADV bike would struggle. Maybe a 125 trail bike could get through by bypassing the track and being carried where necessary.

RoadtripDiva and I have just done a little tour together and we called into Brownys motorcycle Museum. The concrete dust has cleared the beer fridges are full and the menu is up on the board. we enjoyed some fab south island beers and the company of a few other freindly bikers.
Browny has bikes on display with more coming! check out the race bikes and the iconic japanese sports bikes from the 70s and 80s.

Popped down ta Browny's Yesterday (around 700km round trip from Whangarei, OK I was bored). Was looking forward ta sampling his beers and ta check out his "Bike Museum". Hate ta say I was a little disappointed. He hasn't started brewing yet (still waiting for some micro brewery gear) and didn't seem to know which types of beer he was planning to brew when all the gear has arrived, so there goes the Brewery bit for now. As for the Museum, there are only 6 bikes present there at the moment. Hope there are more to come.
Obviously early days for Browny's. He has put a lot of work into this place and is on to a good Idea. Look forward ta visiting him again, once he is fully set-up.

Hi there,

Are there any more pictures of the shop out there? Does he have a poster of Scott Russell at the 1993 Suzuka 8 Hour on the wall? (Shared the bike with Aaron Slight that year ...)

About 20 of us rode down there a few sundays ago.
Great place, a few bikes to look at inside, great food, the beer drinkers enjoyed their beers, good bike parking
The owner made sure we were happy and thanked us all for coming.
well worth a ride I say, we will be going back.

I've only been riding for 4 weeks and the trip out to Browny's is a nice little jaunt. Been there three times now, went for a flat white this afternoon. For a Tauranga beginner it's a nice little run for a cup of coffee or a burger.

The entry is on the side road, Country Engineering is on the same corner and is more visible if you're coming from Tauranga. Pull into the carpark and turn immediately right for motorbike parking, that way you can sit outside and keep an eye on your bike or dribble over some of the other machinery turning up.

One of the waitresses rides a Bonneville T100 800cc to work and parks it on the grass in the motorbike parking area. Ah, where has she been all my life?

OK, OK, I know the answer is, "unborn for most of it!"

Id hardly go as far as calling it a motorcycle museum, more of a biker friendly cafe.
We decorated it with our own bikes for the wedding.

Yeah it's been more of a biker friendly cafe since Dion took over. I called in just before I came over here to Oz and he was just wheeling a Moto Guzzi California out of the cafe, I think he was returning it to whoever had lent it to him.

Good spot to take a break, keep a piece of 6 x 1 in your saddle bag because the best bike parking is at the side of the cafe on the grass - you can sit outside on a fine day and look at whatever bikes are in the yard. Just turn right onto the grass immediately after coming in the main gate.
