Just got home from it too.
Great special effects. Never seen such good 3D.
The film was probably good for the under 16s :(
A great 'Chick Flick' and definitely one for the techno geeks.

So the 3D was decent? I saw UP! and final destination in 3D and only two or three things in the entire movie actually jumped out. Waste of money i reckon.

A Christmas Carol was superb in 3D. Snowflakes that drift onto the shoulder of the person next to you. Unreal.

Angelina Jolie in Beowolf did it for me.
But I must say that the 3D in Avatar is the best I have ever seen.

I definately need to avoid the 3D showings as I am afflicted with monoccular vision (I only see through one eye) therefore I can't see the 3 D effect and just see a red movie...which is ugly.

Fnny you should say that. When I have seen 3D films in the past, the projected scenes have been sharp in the centre, but blurred and overlapping to the sides.
This film gave you a full sharp screen. When I removed my glasses on several occasions to see how it looked, the image quality was pretty good. So I suspect you would get a decent viewing quality.
BUT without the special 3D effects, I wouldn't rate the film very highly.
Wait for the non-3D DVD to come out.

Though it won't change how you see the movie, I feel I need to point out that you are indeed an "Old Man ©". The red/green glasses dissapeared along with 1980, it's all about proper stereoscopic action now. :P

I thought it was awesome too. Will definitely go see it again. You can see it in 2D if you cant/dont want to see it in 3D. I took my glasses off a few times and it doesnt make a major difference, but would definitely recommend seeing it in 3D if you can.

I heard it's just another version of Ewoks vs Imperial.
Or "Dances with Wolves" in space.
The CG was good, but I didn't really like the story/characters/direction. There were bits where they introduced things that were used later in the movie that seemed too obvious. And something (many things?) about the characters/relationship with the aliens etc. didn't seem right.
I'm not much good at putting stuff into words. :p
Starship Troopers was more believable.
District 9 was a million times better. ;)

I saw it at the IMAX cinema on Thursday night. Well worth seeing the IMAX 3D version instead of the standard digital one if you're in Auckland. It's gorgeous.
Quite safe to take the little kids along to, to - all the violence is magically bloodless. Must be a low-gravity thing.
Great movie.

District 9 was a million times better. ;)
District 9 wasn't Hollywood pablum, though, so the writers were free to make it interesting.
Given the stupefying level of financial commitment that was undoubtedly involved, you can't go in expecting Avatar to risk transcending safe storytelling conventions.
With luck, though, it'll act as a proof-of-concept that'll open the technology (and investors' pockets) up to less milquetoast applications.

Oh wow Dudes and Dudess's
Just got back fro watching this epic and have to buy it on dvd as a keeper when it comes out.
Blimey I got transported and felt like I was one of "The People" when the film had finished, felt full of wellbeing until I went into the boozer after the film with my new biker mate, and it was fullof naty piss heads, blimey the more I see nd deal with piss heads the less I want to drink...uh oh.
Anyway, the idea behind the film, was enourmous, and the plot was fab, who thinks of these films, where you can transport yourself into the film, and feel like your part of it running through the forest and up in the trees.
Talk about identifying with what they were on about, feeling the forest around you but those of you who know me know that I am weird like that:rolleyes:. Not so many trees to hug over here anyway!!!
I would emplore anyone who hasn't seen the film to go and see it, got tears welling up at one stage, then venoumously wanted to kill the bad guys.....grrrr
It's a feb film guys, go and have a feel good 3 hours......
Happy in Between Bit.

Fark - Avatar 3D was booked out so Vicki and I settled for Loverly Bones... Homicide definately affects a wide circle of folks, spreading much like a ripple caused by a stone landing in a still heavenly pond...
Unfortunately by the time the ripple reached me it was just a wet annoyance similar to not shaking the last drips off your knob before tucking. Still, we both cried, Vicki from emotion, me from boredom....

Hey Dudes and Dudess's',
Neyfiri Is the chick na'vi' and a mate of mine said soon as he saw her in the film, he thought of me, all cute and venoumous at the same time..............he said that before I saw the film, and thought I would reserve punching him in the face until I saw who this Neyfiri was, but cu huh, :Punk:I feel all bashful now, as she is fantastic........:clap:especially wehn she hisses through her teeth when she is pissed off.......so made a dash for the guy who said I was his Neyfiri and planted a smacker on his face......what a compliment.....or am i going mad efor thinking that!!!
Ciao for now Dudes and Dudess'ssss hav to squeeze some zzzz's out now, am completed hooked on a UK Biker Site at the moment, seems like I am due to make some mates off the site as a lot of them go to rallies, so that will be good.......going to organise a central piss up in March, for the site, and then get all the chicks together for the equivalent version of Babes on Bikes in April/May time so there will be some groovy pictures of that meet up.

As for buying the DVD when it comes out.
So you have a 3D TV at home?
Without 3D it would be quite an ordinary people/animation mix film.
I preferred Who 'Framed Roger Rabbit'.

Yes. It's an old school CRT. Far more 3 dimensional than the modern flat screen TVs.

Good as showcase for CGI but the storyline was utterly predictable a bit Disney and a little political - notice the similarities with the Middle East "unobtanium" = Oil . I don't know why they didn't cut out the "sex" scene and some of the violence and make it a U. Entertaining brain off movie though.

A lot of my bike/hot-rod parts seem to be made of unobtanium...but none has come from the Middle East..

Saw it over christmas in Bolton, stunningly beautiful movie. I'd recommend going to see it on a normal screen in 3D and sitting in the front row. The story was as predictable as hell, but actually looking around the 3D world was highly entertaining (front row), huge depth, superb effects and the chicca was pretty stunning up close, was hopin they'd do her kissing the screen, but no...

yeah the storyline is a rip, just like the Fail image describes.
however, it's still visually very stunning.
my wife couldn't see the 3D either (one eye is weaker than the other, so the 3D trick wont work for her).
the 3D didn't work 100% for me either, I'm short sighted and even though I was in the third row, somethings didn't pop us much as I thought they should (things that attempt to come out of the screen at an angle/to the sides. front on was fine, oh and yeah I wear glasses and wore em under the 3D specs/goggles).
however in saying that the trailer for Tim Burton's Alice in wonderland was fantastic. the Cheshire cat forms from smoke, about 2 inches in front of your nose.
I can't wait to see that in 3D.
would I watch Avatar again? yup you buy me a ticket and I'll be there, running through the forest chasing that sexy blue ass. also Sigourney weaver is still sexy, had a crush on her since I first saw alien I was probably Five.
I'll buy it on dvd when it comes out, but I'm sure I will be disappointed by any attempts to watch it in 3D at home.
I've heard that some people are threatening suicide after watching Avatar, as their lives are just to dull boring and grey after seeing the vibrant world of Pandora, so if youre on the verge as is, might want to skip this flick :P

Me n Rayne- Roadtripdiva, have just watched it too- totally agree with what you say Jan. we are just scum compared to them- I hope that somewhere there are beings that live this way, and that we never bother them!
With you too on the plugging in thing!- need to do that with my bike!
the reason we went to se it was - I took a lady from Wellington out on one of my bike tours- she works in model making for the film industry and casually mentioned while we were riding, that she made the models of the 'helicopters' in that movie- after seeing it all - WOW!!- we were both super impressed.

We enjoyed it, in 3D, except that I felt I had to keep trying to clean my 3D glasses as they looked smeared (eeew). The picture was pretty sharp whenever I removed them to see how dirty the specs were.
I thought it was quite a good story except that ole Mr Bad General Army dude was a bit OTT. The concept of being able to "transport" into another body reminded me of a movie I saw on DVD called "the 13th floor" or something like that where people could inhabit the body of another person in an alternative reality. Except there were no aliens in that movie...

Took Mrs Grumpy and Grumpy Junior to see Avatar in 3D last night and the boy and I enjoyed it but the wife said it was a waste of money and the movie was so americanised and the story line was very predectible and you knew what was going to happen.
Anyone else had comments like that?
