Anyone here have a 2004 GSXR 600, or know from experience of often a decent service should be done on these? i.e Valve clearances, compression test, checking everything is within tolerances etc.

Is there anything else to check out when the shops open after christmas, or do I just ask for them to check the valve clearances and adjust? Obviously I don't have the tools for the job and I think it might pay to have service recipts for insurance claims if it something goes wrong in the future.
EDIT: Thanks for the link

well if ya don't know when air filter/plugs changed i would change those, i run ngk irdiums in my k4 600, replace them every 15000kms
ifs in the shop for piece of mine you could get them to do a compression test should only take them 15-20 mins, measing clearances is not a huge job and i wouldn't expect would need adjusting, when they adjust them they just change the sims (involves taking the cam out)

If you take to the shop they will stick it on their computer as well, the bike will record every fault it's had. BITE function I guess.

ifs in the shop for piece of mine Sorry?
So I should ask for a compression test and valve clearances done or checked or what ever to make sure everything is Kosher? I'll replace the plugs and check the filter, I've no idea when the previous owner replaced them.

BITE function I guess. That might be a bit of a problem, when I bought it the power commander that was in it was making it display an error, so that would be mixing up any real errors anyway. Or does it record errors that might not have been displayed?

Was it displaying 'FI'?
All errors should have been recorded until deleted by someone with the right equipment (in the shop).
As a side note:
'FI' is just a indication that there is an error. There is a way to find out the error code without going to the shop, saving $60 odd, but the 'FI' must still be showing.

yes the fix is having a paper clip, and the list of what FI code stands for, which is in the service manual, but you have to have the fault on the bike still for it to be displayed.

It's not still there, it went away with the PC3 that was installed and I haven't had any issues since. I don't see why I need to bother with that error considering I know it was just a glitch to do with the pc3

No go hard, or go home. Your bike will be fine.
I know of bikes at 50,000 miles who vavle clearances are still in within spec with out any adjustment.

Cool. Not to argue with the experts, but why are the first clearance checks supposed to be done at 24 if they never actually need it at that point? You're the second person who has mentioned at 50k+ gixxer that didn't need them done

always better to check them more often than not often enough, they said later intervals and that 1/10,000 that blew up due not being checked at 24 would sue them wouldn't they and cost them more in long run

Better to over estimate than under, I guess

I think that first valve clearance check is the most important, with the wearing in of all the new bits.
Quite often they can be too tight which is worse than being loose.
Having said that mine were fine at 24,000 so I might leave the next one a bit longer.

On your DL650? I think I'll get them checked next chance I get, better too early than late. So is the comp test just to check the state of the rings, valve seats and gaskets? This is really only the 2nd four stroke I've ever had, so I've no clue

I'm fairly certain it's only the K6 onwards 600/750 that stores the fault history in the ECU for retrieval by the SDMS
