My father is one of the most anti road motorcycle people you will meet.
Just to explain- due to no fault of his own 23 years ago he was driving on the coro loop and a biker stuffed up a corner and slid under his car killing the biker instantly.
So ANY praise for bikers from him is likely to be grudging at best.
SOO last friday night we were talking over dinner and out of the blue he said.
"You know all your mates are riding really conciderately.
They always wave a thank you when I move over to let em in and they seem really well behaved.
Packa asshole car drivers could learn a thing or two from em."

so there ya go guys n gals a cager that notices the good stuff.
Ohh Bye the way--hes driving a white Hiace high roof camper van so toot him if ya go passt--he might even wave back.

+1, I've just gotten into the habit of waving to anyone and everyone who: moves over while I'm splitting, the person I pull in front of when re-merging, people who pull over to let me pass on backroads, or slow down and moves to the left as a passing lane comes up. Had a few wave back or toot at me, and it does wonders for your karma imo.
The more biker friendly cagers the better and the best way to convert them is to be polite.

:slap: Crikey! This must be xmas! But, glad to hear of a good story for once - we always hear of the other vehicles being idiosyncratic in their road manner, sure as sure, they can speak volumes of other feckless moroncyclists doing their gene-o-kleen impressions.

Long may a pervading spirit of generosity, forbearance and understanding settle upon the mantles of all road users everywhere!

You should kick his mirrors off then. That will make him "respect" motorcyclists more in the future.

Funny you should say that, I travel SH1 north of amberly every day.
I pull over and let every bike have room the aproaches me from behind as I only pootle at 100kph in my truck.
I get wave from about 70% of sport bikers, 80% tourers and 90% harleys!
But the worst for acknowlaging my actions are the BMW riders!!!!
Even cages that pass me toot or wave more often than them

You must have a few coussies up in North Island, every trucky I come up behind usually always tries to pull over where possible, and I appreciate it in the car or on the bike, they get the usual 2 toots or thumbs up if riding. On the bike it isn't much of a problem, and to an extent in the car(4ltr grunt)but with the old 4 cylinder car it didn't have same power so always liked the indicator signal or pull over the truckies do.

PLease pass on our best wishes and continued thanks for his courteous and considerate behaviour. My dad was collected by a rider a few years back, no injuries to him but the rider lost a leg, To my knowledge they've spoken a few times and the situation has long since been resolved.Dad hopped on the back with me once.
Took him from his site to home (about 5 K's) he's never wanted to ride a bike since, but can still apprecaite the need for me to do so. I love me Dad.

My Dad was looser on bikes than I will ever be. Dutch immigrant in the early 1950s with a string of Matchlesses, BSAs and the like. Into the 'scrambles' scene in Wellington area and plenty of tales of police chase escapes "I took to the Kandalla Hills because I knew the cop's Norton didn't have a show of catching the Matchy". He's gone 24 years ago but stories are still filtering out via an elderly Dutch uncle about Dad's narrow misses during sometimes drunken motorcycle offs in Holland.

Guess better judgement and a conservative Kiwi Mum kept the stories under wraps during my impressionable years, with good reason - the vehicle count may well have been higher.

actually is it possible to get a "biker freindly" sticker?
The "old fulla" reminded me in no uncertain terms who it was that is out in their bush with the tractor making the tracks that me and the kids get to ride every christmas.

noticed a huge increase in 'move over and smile/waves' on the Taka's since it got double yellowed end to end

However the downside of that is the utter pricks who arrogantly carry on hugging the center at 35kmh all the way are just that much MORE frustrating....sigh

Wave to the friendlys, scowl at the inside of my visor at the rest

Not only down your way either, StoneY. The wife and I went up to Te Kuiti yesterday, plenty of cars pulling across to let us by, even in the Awakino gorge, but also the odd one who went out of his or her way to try to stop us getting past - as in pull alongside a car in an overtaking lane, then sit there till well past the 200 m sign. Plus one idiot who decided to pass 3 cars, a van and us on double yellows approaching a blind left.
