The police in the Waikato will be concentating on bikers this month,Patrols have been told to pull over at lest one bike per shift
for warrent and licence checks. It seems ACC have noticed an incress in Waikato riders going down,so have decided a bit of persercution is in order.
Watch yerselfs guys.

Now that explains alot.
Last weekend I was riding back to Auckland from RotoVegas and I got stopped by a cop just outside of Cambridge.
I wasn't speeding, not drunk or stoned the bike is reg and warranted, I had my licence on me e.t.c. (model citizen)
I asked the cop why he pulled me over and he said "Oh just a routine check".
He gave the bike the once over and asked me a dozen stupid questions like... "where ya goin, Where ya been??"
The funny thing was, while he was carrying out his roadside interogation the wind flipped his hat onto the road which was immediately run over by the next car. :gob:
I stood staring at the cop trying soooo hard not to burst out laughing. The wind carried his hat a hundred meters down the road and he left me to go and retrieve it. Presuming my roadside meeting had finished I geared up and buggered off.

there's a difference to being friendly and being an asshole thou lou. if i was a difficult or rude prick to a higway cop at 10am, during a routine licence or breath test (which they are legislatively entitled to do) and you were the next bike along at 111km/h at 1015am - guess who's gonna wear the $80 ticket, and why. thought you would have known that.
as an aside, how many bikers on here have had 111 - 115km/h tickets on their bikes, as opposed to in their cars? (not camera tickets)
Lou Girardin
5th November 2003, 15:38
You may be right, but after getting pinged for 117km/h on passing lanes even after I was nice to him, my attitude now is 'stuff them, if they want to persecute us for revenue'.
marty
5th November 2003, 15:50
so how is being a difficult prick gonna make the ticket feel any better again? it definately will make the cop think only once about giving the next biker a ticket for fuck all.
so where in nz was the 117 on the pass lanes?

Last year, the short cut to Cambridge via Gordonton. 111km, and the dick gave me a $150 ticket. all nice to him as well. should have just been an ass hole to him so his day was as shitty as mine.

On the passing lanes approaching Waitara, Taranaki. I passed an old duck who had kept me at 80km/h for the previous 10 km. Sure enough, when we reached the passing lanes she sped up to 100. Think the cop gave a shit? No way, just another one to fill the quota. So screw them. If the odd good cop gets treated bad, thats because there's so many wankers in the force.

115kmh Southern motorway 2pm light traffic weekend.
He was very friendly telling us he was a bike rider also, but he was being forced into giving out tickets.
He was by himself and alledgedly followed us and clocked our speed on his speedo.

112kph south of Cambridge. I was too busy deciding what pie I was going to buy at the Cambridge BP & how good the bath was going to feel when I finally made it home. :o
I got pulled over by a lovely young chap heading south at Mercer for 111kph. I laughed at him when he ran up & showed me the laser display! I got out of that one only because my rego had expired recently & he said I could have a ticket for one or the other - my choice. :) Guess which one I chose! :D

I guess u chose the speeding ticket??
I would never choose a ticket with demerit points over one that doesnt have demerits. Even though the reg ticket would cost a bit more ($200??) that is enough to offset not having demerits!!! Need to store them up for when they are required!!

I know I'm blonde under this (fading) red hair dye, but I'm not that blonde!!!! :gob:
I chose the rego, especially since he was nice enough to put the get-off-ticket-if-you-prove-you've-fixed-the-problem clause on it too, which they don't have to do these days. :) So all I had to do was pay for the rego & post them proof of the rego, and they let me off. So ner! :p

Yep, they're saturating the Waikato alright. Came into Tokoroa via a back road tonight and there were 2 cars patrolling an area which I regard as my race track on the way home from work. Fortunately, the detector picked the first one up before I saw it. I might have got flagged down for a license and warrant/rego check but the 4x4 in front of me got himself pulled for speeding. Love it when that happens:2thumbsup

Yeah, the pretty vs demerit points rule certainly applies for girls. My G/f got let off driving friends after 10pm on her restricted just by smiling nicely at the copper (I need to get me a blond wig and see if it works for me too!)
Do you suppose wearing a 1 piece race style suit when you get pulled over absolutely guarantees you'll get a ticket? I mean... I have a race replica bike, a racey style suit and I'll probably be wearing my race grade W2 boots if on a weekend ride... I'm just a bloody target aren't I? I think I should sell the gixxer and buy a nice sensible BMW R80 and some conservative BMW branded riding gear.

GSX1200 = retro style, conservative-looking with screen and pack rack, about as far from a race replica as you can get (apart from an R80, that is...).

OK. Here's the story from as close to the horses mouth as I can get:
They have been tasked to stop a motorcycle a day and they are targetting the riders that flout the conditions of their licences ie: learners not displaying an L plate or doing more than 70km/h.
I have, of course, pointed out to my "source" that it's kind of difficult to pick this small group out from the rest, and so they're really going to have to target all bikers. It's pretty difficult to tell a 250cc bike from bigger machines when you're travelling and it's damn near impossible when you're travelling behind a bike. And some learners ride bigger bikes than the 250cc they're allowed to.

The problem I have with being singled out and turned over by the cops, while on my bike, is that everytime they put your name in to the computer, for either a QP (query persons details) or a QVR ( query regitstered owner), you name is logged on the computer at the police comms center ( now shared with Fire service comms)
this info is kept for sometime, it shows time ,date, and cop unit # and location that where you were pulled over, remember you might not have got a ticket,In fact you might not have done anything wrong,, so if you get pulled up again, within the next few days, it will flag as " PREVIOUSLY QUERIED" that is not good, if the cop was trying to make up mind about if he should give you a ticket, that little flag "Previously Queried" will decide it for him.
It is not uncommon to have been logged two or three times within a few days,so you can imagine how hard it will be to talk your way out of a ticket in that situation, add a sport bike race leathers, and you fuc#4d

Hello Igor, thank you so much for your pleasant reply,Not sure which part of my post you found incorrect, but thank you so much for you interest, Its seems you are able to confirm my point, that is, when pulled over by the cops and a QVR or QP is done that fact is held in the police comms center computer for some days, , and if checked again that information will come back with "Previously Queired " and as I stated , this can cause the cop to be more likely to issue a ticket.

You guys must have a different breed of of cop or yourselves must be different up there, I have only been pulled over twice in the last 7-8 years (can't remember longer than that!!) on my bike, once for a check on my licence and once because my no. plate was bent and "unreadable" (I reckoned I could read it!) and after a bit of discussion I rode off without a ticket.
Only one of my riding mates has had a ticket that counts and he decerved it, doing 240km + on SH1 in the middle of the afternoon and trying to do a runner, cost him his licence for 6mnths, another mate got a ticket for riding his H-D on a learners licence.
And no, for the record I don't ride like a granny all the time:)
Also I lnow a few cops, a previous check on you does not ensure you will be getting a ticket but your attitude most likely will be the influence if the thought of giving you a ticket is marginal.

thats what I'm saying... I think these race styled 600's, 750's 1000's (nevermind zx12's and busas etc) are pretty much that. As mikeL pointed out, the GSX looks decidedly more conservative than some of the bikes people here ride and the natural assumption made by onlookers/cops is that the guy who looks like he's going racing probably is. Having said that, I've only been pulled over on the GPX and ZXR for lane splitting and once for speeding but that may be more to do with me being more alert for cops since i've had the ZX6R and now the GSXR.

no lou - slim is right. waikato hp cars only have opposite and stationary mode ('dual') stalkers. the STU cars have the talking DSR same lane faster and slower model, but highway are waiting for the next upgrade, so make do with the original radars they came out with in 2000.
don't be caught out though by the VY S pack commodores, which are currently being handed out to the rural stu units - they have the DSR in them. easy to spot over the highway VX models though.

You an' me both, Lou! I recall having a heart-stopping moment coming round a corner south of Hastings, heading for Masterton. There's some nice sweepy corners between Hastings & that Maori Boarding School, and I was having some fun, only to see the back end of a police car in the distance. I followed him for miles (he was actually doing the speed limit!) before he pulled over to meet another copper coming North to meet him. Phew!
I didn't realise the new radars were out there already. When I was told by a Waikato HP cop that they had the old ones, I thought he was talking about the whole country. He did say they're getting upgraded ones that will work in the "same lane" in the next couple of months. I just hope he remembers to tell me when it happens! ;)
