Ok, here she is,
Very straightforward
25x3mm ally about 300mm L and 3x m4 x 20 ss button head capscrews + nylock nuts
2 x m5x 15 cuntersunk head ss capscrews + nylock nuts + a few ss washers

One piece of ally is a doubler behind the plastic / to stop the bolts pulling through the guard.
I made 3x 6mm spacers using 6mm ally sheet and a 25mm holesaw (these are the slugs) and used them as packers to pack the main rail that supports the extinguiher bracket
Bolted it all up through the guard as shown , then used velcro straps to hold the extinguisher in place.
What with Buffies accident and all, and the fact that I dont like it on my handlebars or in my hydrapak ....
Its a lot more out of the way than the photos show .

Hell, that's very nice work IIIRII. Bumped into that guy I mentioned before re mounting here. By coincidence he said you couldn't mount same way on later than 07 as no subframe showing under plastic. I reckon you nailed it. Plenty solid with something on other side as you've done and even tidier than hanging low off a bracket.
Bend that release pin 90 degrees to get it right out of the road, wrap in thick plastic to keep the muck off and Bob's your uncle.
Would even look forward to having to carry extinguisher now, but might need to trim that sideplate to show it off properly Lol.

Similar setup...used a no toil cleaner bottle and mounted an alloy strip on the inside of the bottle with countersunk bolts protruding out. I then mounted to the bike with the same size alloy strip sandwiching the airbox plastic. The nuts are on the inside of the airbox. The extinguisher slides in and out of the bottle with a bit of force. I don't think I'll need anything else to hold it in anyway. I then sprayed it black and put some scuff tape on it.
I wonder how long it will be before a stone flies up and pierces the bottle or knocks the gauge off....super roost!

Cool Idea!
But my radiator overflow catch bottle lives inside that part of the airbox. Should be room for that and the alloy plate and nuts too. May just need some padding.

I covered the end of mine with a couple of piece's I cut off an old inner tube
Cut the pin down like Cam said
Stretched it over the handpiece and gauge.

The places that insist you carry an extinguisher aren't really worried about your bike. They are worried about their multi million dollar forest.

the whole mounting the extiguisher anywhere on anything has this problem, it always has to be attached somehow, and most brackets that hold it tight enough for it not to fall off, mean its difficult to get out of the bracket if your on fire. the one that IIIRII has posted is pretty easy, you can just yank it hard enough and it comes out of the bracket.
But the thing is that for some rides you HAVE to have an extinguisher, and its better if its somewhere not on your person.
Its gonna be a pain to get to if its on your number board, on your handlebars, under the rear fender, on your backpack... anywhere
and a 0.3L fire extinguisher is probably unlikely to put out a fuel fire anyway.

Hmm may be so but what use is a piss arse .3 kg one going to do with up to 6 or 7 liters maybe more of petrol.

Good point Barty
I guess the obvious solution would be
1 / Make sure a real fire tender follows you around in the forest (might need a really long hose)
2 / Ban all motorsport in forests ...(WTF, I race cars too, this is a bad idea)
3 / Try to have a fair and reasonable compromise between being stupid and making an effort to abide by the owners of the forests wishes...
OR convert all dirt bikes to either hydrogen generators or electric power ...
MMmmm ....
No ones desputing the ineffectivness of a .3 kg extinguisher, Im just offering a solution to an alternative place to mount it , as like I have said several times , I dont like it on the handlabars or on my hydrapack.
When I did tussock buster I had it wrapped in a towel in my pack...
This place is out of the way and seems like one other alternative to mounting the extinguisher.
You can put yours where ever you like .....

Electric bike will have to carry them as well due to electrial sparks or short circuits although if that happen the odds are your going to be on fire as well or looking like you just got hit by a defibrillator machine wound up to full

what cracks me up is they say you need an extinguisher, but they never check to see if they are fully charged or even working for that matter, once i got through the sign on with a V bottle in my cammelbak, all the guy did was feel through my cammelbak and sent me on my merry way.

With the amount of Jack Daniels you drink Bartz, I reckon that thing down your pants is more likely to be a flame thrower than a fire retardant!

nobody actually expects you to put out a forest fire!

Ho Ho Ho, Evan, that cracked me up with a proper LOL. Cheers.
Was interesting Scott's post on other thread re holed extinguisher fizzled out in about 20 secs. Has anyone ever used one of these things in anger?
Most of these organised rides have a fair bit of traffic, so hopefully more than one extinguisher per fire if it ever happens (touch wood). We better hope it doesn't too, as it'll probably be the end of forest riding and big black mark in forest will be another big black mark against bikes. Can't expect ride organisers to check 'em. Responsible rider's job. Not many rules so it's easy to follow them.
I've seen a half-burnt air filter on trail at Muriwai end of Woodhill and a few months ago I was behind an overheating bike that was belching out a major trail of sparks and flame - could definitely have started a fire. I wonder if a say a metre-square fire blanket could be as good as an extinguisher? Easy to carry.

Its about public liability...not your bike.
You try and get public liability insurance for an event in a forest , without mandatory extinguishers ....
It would be cost prohibitive.

Thanks IIIRII for the tip.:2thumbsup It has inspired me to try and do the same. I was a little worried about the weight of the extinguisher on the plastic mudguard so I tried out this hose clip onto the subframe - not sure if it will be effective? Much happier not to have fire extinguisher in back pack now - even just for sparing my back the weight.

Nice tidy mount there. not usre how long it will last with large rocks and some big crashes i wouldnt want it jaming me in the legg. ive got mine on my armour.
Its so silly having them have you ever used one? you are better of taking a piss on the fire! Most of my mates ones are empty from being puntured or because they where bored and used it. You can glue the gauge to read full :done:

i used mine on some guys twin shock xr200 at a trail ride up here, we were folowing him and could see the flames beside his leg, fuel line had split and started burning, but thats the only time, the husky has a v in the front guard the it fits in nicely with a cpl cable ties and its mint.

i think on an old pile of shit bike - eg a twin shock xr, which clearly hadnt had a re-vamp, an extinguisher is a good idea

Good to know it came in handy there 4stroke. How much juice was left in it after putting fire out?
hmm XR? Maybe should've let it burn.

used two to put it out, but thats proberly the point of the organiser wanting everyone to carry a small one, then if someone does have a fire usually theres enough people arround to hopefully put it out, we dont really want to have a forest burn down and not be able to ride aye. id imagine any bike could catch fire too, it would only take a big accedent (high side or cartwheel) for something to get riped off or extremly hot header pipe to lay on some real dry pine needles and flamage, 1 in 10 mill chance of some thing happening tho.
