Sigh!
Did ya hear they're going to drop the Dutch "Z" from the country's name?
No? Haven't you seen all the signs around announcing "New Seal" Land? :woohoo:
I think once they have lathered on a layer or three of seal the damn traffic light sensors just don't see my Suzi DR650.
I tried moving up and down.... thought about putting her into neutral walking over and pushing the button....
Eventually gave up and just went through on the red when no traffic was coming.
I felt a tad uncomfortable as it was bang in front of the Cashmere / Colombo street cop shop!

Hey, if there are no other cars around, then treat it as an uncontrolled 4 way stop sign, check the way is clear and ride away.
Only the most unreasonable cop would ticket you for this especially if you've already waited through 3 phases etc for the lights to change.

You might need a strong magnet...

Phase? What phase? It just stuck on red for me green for them.
I could only judge that this was going on for a silly amount of time.

This does happen quite alot, extremely frustrating. but then again, I'm still on my pushbike.

Meh! :p Seems like it is a common problem!
Apart from the natural disinclination to put my front wheel in a puddle of car oil... I had the bike in neutral and moved it all around the blooming sensor square. So "where" in the sensor square doesn't help.
I suspect the problem is DR's are "high and light".
And no, I'm not getting a damn Harley! I like mucking about in the dirt!
Hmm. I've got a hard drive magnet lying around somewhere maybe I should tie it to the handlebars and clip in on the tank.
And then drag it around the sensor to try set it off....
Nah! Bugger that! I'm just going when there are no cars.
I always feel safer when there are no cars than I do when I have The Official Right Of Way!

i was worried about this at first, but it doesnt seem to have been a problem for me so far.
wouldnt you want the magnet on the underside of the bike somewhere? :P

dad got his only traffic fine for doing exactly this in the middle of the night on a gn250. ive gone through a few reds myself, but luckily not been caught and we dont have cameras yet. usually at night, but one or two during the day when riding between bp sites after the coworker with the key and code failed to show up for work.

Talk to your council.
Aparently some can have their sensitivity adjusted.

Chuck your sidestand down on one of the lines in the tarmac that mark the perimeter of the sensors.
It does work.
Then tell the council like the Dutch chap just up there suggested.

in my experience riding onto the edge of the sensor pad and at last second (oil on surface allowing and its usually on middle of sensor) hit the brake.
Light for other direction goes amber in a few seconds, mission accomplished

Thanks for the repost and link to the original thread. I like the idea of the magnet - especially now coins are magnetic:woohoo: I could pay my fuel bill from the rvenue collector:woohoo::woohoo: I have checked all round for traffic then progressed with caution. Checking all round includes the rear view for plod.
Anyone else feel like strapping a revenue collector to the underside of their bike?:Punk:

I'm noticing the sensors in The Square here in Palmy are getting worse.

Interesting, I never have that problem on my DR250 and I would have through you would have more metal than me.
. . . I tried moving up and down.... thought about putting her into neutral walking over and pushing the button . . .
Now that would make a hilarious video. :-) I can just about picture the whole thing in my head.

One of my friends had that issue in Auckland. It was 1 or 2 in the morning. There were no cars around. He waited for three phases before riding through the lights. Just then an unmarked pulled him up. He wrote to the PIB, but they wouldn't let him off. In the end he just paid - it wasn't worth the hassle to him.

So you fell for the old 'Lights stuck on Red' trick!
The fine will be in Tuesday's post.
Happy New Year :)

I have spoken to CCC before on issues, just ring the main number and they can get you to the right department, explain it simply and offer nicely to demonstrate the issue if needed., They can actually be helpful which seems a shock the first time you deal with them.

not all lights work from underground sensors
im told (by a man from BRONZ) that a lot of them now use radio waves from the top of the lights.
They way to make these change is to kill your engine and use the starter (apparently it interferes with the waves and you are detected)
havnt proven this but i am a fat bastard on a bigish bike and have had issues
Love to know if anyone has proven this

My father got sick of waiting for the lights to change on the main nth road in chch at 5am going to work, so he just drove through the mobil on the corner every morning and got a cheery wave from the guy working there.
I've had it on the pushbike and the motorbike, I'm willing to chance it to have a look around to see who's watching and go on the red.

i look for the squares in the road there are ussually two per lane.I stop right in the middle on top of two edges.Always seems to work.Even the ol Beemer doeesnt have enough metal to trigger them all ,but this method seems to work.I fyou get really stuck pushing the pedestrian cross button parrallel to your intended direction seems to trigger your lights

You are entitled to ignore the lights if they are faulty.
And if they are supposed to detect vehicles, and they do not they are clearly faulty !.
I'd do more than apply the right hand rule, I'd give way to all directions as other traffic may not be aware of the fault.
I got a ticket for this many years ago, and defended it, an easy win.

Get in the middle of the lane, and if that doesn't trigger it, put your sidestand down on top of it.
I've owned a RGV150 and a GSXR1000 and most sport bikes in between, never had an issue.
