In the new format Kiwi Rider Magazine that is out now, you'll find a lot more competition news and features (A barrow I and others pushed partly on KB feeback), racing features and technical advice.

Also 2 sections just made for KB'ers IMO.

I did the first 'Why I Love My Bike' - on my t'bird, to start the ball rolling on what we want to become a really strong feature.

So, if you have a dead sexy picture of your bike (in highish resolution) and can knock out the story of your relationship with it in 5-600 words, you can own a page in a national mag - (quite a good feeling it is too). Tell NZ what you have done to it - why you bought it, where it gets you etc.

Also there is now a page (or more) for 'Readers Roads' - again if you have a strong hires picture or three and can pen 5-600 on why you dig the road, the page could be your'n too.

I'm happy to advise or will post my drivel if it would help anyone starting.

Talk to me - or send pics and a word document to editor@kiwirider.co.nz
and have fun with it.

Also remember to keep it to the point, don't ramble. We don't want 1500 words for a 500 word max feature. If you send it in typed by hand, then please double space your text. If you don't have a road bike but love your dirt bike, we would still like to consider it, it is not just for road bikes!
So get creative!

Great new format just love it. Certainly will take you up on the article once I am the owner of another bike. Will have do a comparison of a larger cc bike. BTW the plastic bag holding the mags, stops one from browsing the "for sales" in the shop, adds to better sales at my end.

$96 a year delivered to your door each month. Cover price is now $10 so there is a saving to be made if you subscribe. I could post up a subs form if you like.

Interesting. So after giving the world's least professional editorial response to a reader's letter requesting greater competition coverage, KR went that way anyway?

Can't comment, but Chris or I will ask Vege.

What I can offer is that I'll do a nice portrait photograph a KB'ers bike or two if they can meet me at a suitable Auckland location

Does it have to be a new bike? I mean I love my bike but she's just a little CB250RS, 1984!

It's not really like that - it's still 'magazine and human interest' angles - Andrew Stroud's superbike story - race results etc are still in bike mart. FREE INSIDE!

Gee thanks Dave, but my boss pays to put me in magazines.
BTW what's the going rate for models now? Personally I don't get out of bed for less than a buck. Don't get into bed for less than 50 cents either.

The mag is now $10?! Bit steep isnt it? Aussie M/C news is only $7.20, how much are some of those fancy car mags, think theyre under $10? Often just flick it into the trolley if grocery hunting with the mrs, hadnt realised the price had got so high.....might buy the latest one to see whats the fuss, but abit expensive I reckon.

Do you really reckon an extra $1.05 makes any difference?
If you count bike mart it's over 300 pages.

You could read my revue of the XLV750 - it's about a man hoplessly in love with a narrow waisted bitch with a tight rear end and a top end to die for.She lead him astray with her charming ways, but used his weaknesess to embarass him in front of his peers.Sadly they have parted company now - she has found a strong young man with big thighs and left for the Sth Island,he has found something younger and more agile...I suspect he has taken on more than he knows and might not be able to handle her in the deep throws of passion...ah,but these older men will be led astray by someone who pampers their poor skills eh?

I wonder if this is a good idea or not but could be a good promo for KB.
My thought was if we could possibly have a photo of the "Flyin" motorcade. Maybe just a few words saying that a group of ## KiwiBiker riders farewells one of their young members in Wellington recently on behalf of the two thousand odd members on KB.
Am not sure if this a nice gesture or a bit disrespectful to Sam???? I can see both sides of the argument but cannot decide

Appreciate the thought - but I don't think it's right. There would be more appropriate remembrances than in a commercial enterprise?

Well you guys obviously do....
And whats with the $3.00 on BikeMart? Can I buy it seperately? Can I just pay $7 for KR mag and you keep that bit? Bought the mag today, apart from the Andrew Stroud at PI and the Jimmy Steadman SS750 nothing much of interest really....Why do you think you nearly $3.00 an issue more than Aussie Motorcycle News, which gets sent from Aus (funnily enough) and is nearly 30% cheaper? Are you going to continue sealing the issue in a bag? Its not that I dont buy m/c mags either, I have a magazine shop that keeps for me Aussie M/C news, Fast Bikes, Superbikes and Performance Bikes and sometimes I might buy the T.W.O or the new Aussie one Rapid. If its sealed and I can't flick through to see if theirs anything of interest then I guess I wont be reading it anymore....

So you do the layout? Why is coverage of the road racing stuff still in the BikeMart, still on the cheap crap paper? Why dont we get this stuff in glossy and colour? The Dirt Guide is a good idea but where do you buy the stuff from? Is the list of dealers on the back cover applicable to the whole catalogue or just the ad on the rear page? Are you going to do a similiar catalogue for street bike stuff?

Big Dave
4th May 2005, 22:44
>>So you do the layout? <<

Mate, I'm a freelancer, I designed the templates for the layout. The staff designer puts the content in 'em.

>>Why is coverage of the road racing stuff still in the BikeMart, <<

Publisher's call.

>>still on the cheap crap paper? <<
Why dont we get this stuff in glossy and colour? <<

It's a newspaper - it's on newsprint. But it will be improved shortly. (plan anyway)
I'm also confident we'll 'bed the design in' over the next issue, there will be more new, regular competition features in the next KR. Harry did a layout on Rossi's bike today. It looks sh*t hot.

>>The Dirt Guide is a good idea but where do you buy the stuff from?

That publication was independently produced - and I agree - my comment was 'nicely done, but where's the call to action, where do I buy it?' - it took the Hippy to spot the list at the back
If it was me i'd do road as well, but tis nuffink to do with me.

But can you buy it on its own? Would a street bike mag sell on its own here in NZ? Do you or have they (Kiwirider) tried selling in Oz? If AMCN can sell here why can't a NZ mag sell in Oz?

kiwi rider hat OFF.

I really hope we can sell the mag into Aus. My mates back home will be blown away - 'motorcycle tester! - fuck well off' I can hear Rusty say. And then I might also be able to tell that minority of ignorant bastards who can't get past the sheep shagger shit exactly how good the riding is and the vast majority of people I've met are. I would find that rewarding.

kiwi rider cap back ON.
You'll have to wait and see.

We would love to print Bikemart on glossy paper but sales simply do not justify it. It is not that nobody buys the mag, they do, but with a population of 4 million our market is limited. Australian mags have a poulation of about 20 million to target.
It is the same reason that some things are cheaper in Oz than they are here, there are more people buying them. If you would like to pay $15 for KR and $7 for Bikemart we could afford the fancy paper, but isn't it more to do with what is inside the mag??

Has anyone else noticed that the Dirt Guide section on Yamahas (page 58) has all the models missing - mmn, that makes it REALLY helpful! Did you guys get it cheap/free because of this omission?

Might get my camera out and then write a few words on the latest addition to the garage - KR was kind enough to give me a few pages when I bought the CS back in 2002 so here's hoping they'd like an article on the Goose. Mind you, the one on the CS was PAID - sounds like they're looking for freebies for this new series! Correct me if I'm wrong...
