Just purchased a nice classic Yamaha 1985 XJ900 Shaft drive with sport faring. Bike is in reasonable nic with 55000km and rusted inner fork tubes. Hasent been registered since 1990. Any help in finding some used replacements would be great. I know other bikes used the same 37mm approx length tubes so please if you know help with models and years as my missus will make me sell it at a big loss if I dont get it up and running before the summer gets to far advanced. Once again any help greatly appreciated........

Pm Robert Taylor, wasnt born yesterday so no doubt will be able to help with some advice at least.Another option is to find an online parts site like Ron Ayers and compare part numbers between models to give you an idea of what other Yamahas will fit.Fwiw

Engine Components at Hamilton airport can hardchrome your forks to aviation standards.
Not THAT cheap, but come out better than new.
Could be worth considering

Hmm Im sure I replied to this one. Guess not.
Youll find that the fork chromes from any of the XJ900 models 1983-1989 will fit.Yours being the 85 model is it the N (naked with round headlight) or the faired model -red/silver/black?
The earlier models 83-85 had air assistance which means if you get fork legs from one you need the 2 air "covers" and the link hose.
Definitely the forks from the 85 XJ750 will bolt straight in (I just measured mine) and Im pretty sure the 86-90 model xj600 fork legs will bolt in with the xj900 springs in em.
I seem to recall that the xv1000 forks also went in but were a bit long so you have to have a bit of fork leg protruding up through the top clamp
PS--theres a guy on trade me sells a lot of XJ stuff hes in west auckland--might be able to sort you out

ok Kimzok, alive came around to talk some shit today and we yarned about your fork issues.
basicly they are nowadays made of unobtainium here in godzone. You might want to start scanning ebay in the states.
DEFINITELY any model XJ900 froom 83-1990 tubes will fit.the later model stuff 85 on diddnt have the tricky antidive gizmo's and had different spring lenths but if you use the internals from yours you'll be safe.
Otherwise its hard chrome time dude

Hey thanks a bunch for all the info I am now armed and ready for a decision. I'll probably go the USA route about $US350 delivered to my door for brand new versus $250 each plus shipping from Ausi. Once again thanks for all the info. Cheers :niceone:
