Do you know what is required to reprogram radar detectors to NZ conditions etc? I have read plenty on radar detectors and am starting to wonder if the supposed NZ models are actually any different!

What would it cost to get an American reprogrammed does anyone know?

It's easy on V1's, just a manipulation of the on/off button. I have details, for others try their websites first. NZ conditions usually means turning off X and maybe K band too.

So is it really very simple and inexpensive. Nothing to do with altering the internals of the machine?
I just wonder why they retail for twice as much in NZ as I could land one from the States. I have seen them range in price from $900 up to $1460 and the fella reckoned it was on special from 1600 and something dollars. Some Hifi guy out to make a buck or three.

Mate what model you looking at ??
I have imported 120 radars from the states in the last year, if you talking Beltronics Valentine or Escort you wont have a problem.
If you import a lesser brand do your homework, Cobra is good ( higher models), rocky mountain is crap, uniden is crap and so is whistler
You need to have Ka band this is the one which is important, also Laser bands
Most good Radars will offer 10-12 bands anyway

you wont need to re programme any, the cops use American radar gear which is what American radar detectors are designed to sense

the reason why they cost so much here is Margin and the other reason is margin.

I was in Vegas at the huge Sema car show, I spoke to a rep from beltronics and asked him why NZ has different named models than the american ones. basically its marketing, the NZ distributor has asked for different model numbers to be put on the units so he can claim they are for NZ conditions, which is a load of shit, they are the same as the USA ones.

Mate import one from the states I did and it works a treat
Any questions pm me

Good cos I thought it was a load of shit after reading http://www.speedzones.com/ and it described the guns tested and used.
Besides which why would NZ Police of anyone be using better equipment than the USA? Since when have we been that far ahead of the rest of the world in terms of technology? :killingme
