Santa took advantage of a good interest free deal and got me one of these (http://www.breville.com.au/products_detail.asp?prod=498), it makes YUMMY coffee, the house smells like a flash cafe!! BUT I'm going through so much milk experimenting and making Kendog hot chocolate drinks I think I may need to buy a cow!!
So if you pop in to our place, you had better like coffee!!!
Anyone got any flash experimental coffee recipes, special brews or favourite brands they want to share?

Just one bought coffee a day costs more than that in a year - it doesn't take long to get your money's worth out of it.
Our DeLonghi machine cost the best part of three grand - worth every cent...

Besides if I go visiting I might have to shower and get dressed or something

I don't buy made coffee - I did for a while to see what all the fuss was about but, to be honest, I don't think much of it at all, regardless of any claims of how many virgins have harvested and roasted the beans in some 3rd world dump.

I don't mind a nice cuppa cawfee but the noise of the blardy things grinding the beans is obscene. Ya stroll into the kitchen, all peace and goodwill to man after a bit o' "morning glory", and next thing ya know it sounds like someone has started a lawnmower in the kitchen and you're ready to go all US Postal on someone. So nah, a nice quiet cup of instant is fine by me.

You can't have a coffee machine like that if you also have children in the house. Imagine if one got into the beans! I recall Sully ones poppa asking me via text whether he drank coffee. To which I replied "if you want to give him coffee while you have him I am more than happy but please set up the video camera!"

LOLs. My little buggers eat Cafe La Farre Primo B beans like lollies until they're caught.
And Trudes. Sorry babe - there's only one Home espresso machine (http://www.therocket.co.nz/). Sigh... one day.

yup.
to make one you can get yourself some Chai, and use the Chai shot just like a single shot for your latte, pour steamed milk into a glass (or cup) and then poor the shot in slowly, turning the glass as you go, to make pretty swirls on the top of the milk. as you get better at it, you can actually spin the glass on the bench top.
http://www.cafeking.co.nz/product_chai.html
might be worth a look, get some free samples :P
Zerker
P.S enjoy the new machine, I hope it's a good one, the not so good ones loose their appeal real quick, and become too bothersome to us.
My cheapo one got used for the first month, and then sat unused gathering dust till someone knocked it off the bench. now I'm not allowed to buy a good one, cause "You won't use it".

Indian shops sell chai tea bags cheaply. Brew the tea and brown sugar in a saucepan, add frothed milk from machine, blend 50/50 and serve hot.
Try adding sugar to the milk jug and caramelizing it when you froth the milk.
I prefer raw dark brown sugars, they have good levels of vitamins and minerals.

Long glass half full of ice, 2 fingers of REAL maple syrup, top up with milk, almost, pour a double shot on top....
Use half milk, half cream = Late Breve, great after dinner with a baileys.
Steam hot chocolate with a couple of lumps of cadburys dark chocolate peppermint in it for a minty mocha.
Put a couple of split vanilla pods in your coffee sugar...
Damn, giving away all my secrets.....
For good, firm cappucino froth steam your milk before you esspress the coffee, so it separates properly. Great for fluffys with grated choclate.

Split a pod & leave it in the coffee as you drink it, when your finished give it a quick wash & dry it out again. Dip the end of cinnamon sticks into sugar syrup then into brown sugar & let them dry. Stir your coffee with them...

Nothing like fresh Coffee, nectar from the Gods, the key is fresh roasted beans, hook into a good supply, the robert harris muck is roasted months in advance, so looses its freshness, keep coffee beans in an air tight container, no need to chill, as long as its fair trade its good.

We've got a Bosch Benvenuto (which I'm pretty sure is a rebadged Jura) makes superb espresso. Beans we use are from Coffee LaLa in Coromandel http://www.coffeelala.co.nz , preferred mix is called La Bomb, going through about 1 kg every three weeks between the two of us.

couple things.
beans don't go in the fridge, the moisture kills the oils on the beans.
the oils on the beans break down in UV light, keep em in the foil bag, sealed air tight in a container, last much longer that way.
only grind what you need, if you buy it ground, buy less more often or keep it sealed.

If you buy ground coffee get a grinder.... Find yourself a local roaster so you can buy nice & fresh. The oils & sugars which give you the beautiful flavour disappear within 10 minutes of grinding.

The beauty of this machine is the built in grinder, which does an awesome job and you can't get much fresher than that!
