this morn, me mate bill called around ( ktm 625 ) let go riding....:headbang: yup

so we decided we would head up old 52 and find the owahanga beach

so fueled up and off we went......

went up over wairiri road in to alfredton all going good..
headed up 52 and turned in to waihoki valley road, this be good, take a bit of back roads out to the beach..cool..
so we blatting down the roads, take next turn right, and next turn left, take us on to owahanga road....

Ummmm some one missed the turn and went straight ahead.....
but we didn't know i missed it......

so we carry on thinking we are heading for the beach..
great gravel road, no traffic,,,cool road is ours,,,
roads gets a little narrow now,, ok,, its a back road..its all good..:oi-grr:

Hmmm fair bit of grass in the middle of the road now...

OK, road is all grass now...... Ummmm
i asked a horse where we are, he just said ,,, hello im Mr edd,,
so we rode aprox 18km down a road that ended up falling in to a river..:stupid:

i said to bill, mate think we missed the turn off....

so we turned around headed back out... litte way down the track i spun out on the grass and ended over the side of the road...,, on a 9fiddy, that happens very fast....:baby:,,, think i change my nappy now..

so drag bike back up, and we found the right turn, spar road, is the one we missed..:2thumbsup

so we back on track,
headed to the beach, some one was hurt as the rescue helly was parked on the beach,, watched that take off..

after there we headed for pahiatua, vire gravel, up over horoeka and back through coonoor and makuri..
fueled up and headed home..
was a adventure today all right,,,great way to start the year...

I'm not sure. I've always been pushing the fuel thing when out there so haven't done too much exploring up the side roads. According to Google, there may be a track that loops back around to Waihoki Road. I should ask some of the locals next time I'm out there.

You would have been right under the 'Three Kings', which is quite an unusual formation of hills. I've been wanting to get in there for a while.

yea we went passed them, like three big hills, and some one has sliced the side off...very cool,,, yea ask around about the track, be keen to finish it,,

think we better take you next time..

I find GPS are great for taking wrong turns and ending up in random places. If it wasn't for GPS's, I wouldn't have ended up on a beach, in the middle of fields in the middle of the night and gravel roads in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere.

Its great! :2thumbsup

Yep, GPS is great if you don't mind dropping off the odd cliff because the Map designer guys were relying on Google Earth rather than actually tracking the road themselves :)
