"settings" on the top right.

Ah, had found that - it's just that the 'old' way gave you all of the 'new' settings - pkus suscribed threads, all in one hit.

At the moment it shows no new suscribed threads - even though threads such as this one are new since the upgrade.

EDIT: Just had a look and it has now shown one newly suscribed thread...

Ok I can cope with that. So you quoted me right. I have my setting that I get a PM when I get quoted. The PM came through saying "to see the thread quoted click HERE"

I clicked the HERE but it couldnt bring this thread up. Why?

Hold up! It sent the message twice- on the first PM the link didnt work but was sweet on the second one....

I think there might be a problem with double postings - I've seen a few from other people, and I've had a couple of occasions where it tells me the minimum time between posts is 30s - I'm thinking I don't post that fast, then look and see my post is already there. I'm using the dark universe, and Firefox (actually Iceweasel, the Debian branded version) 3.0.6.

Also searching for attachments does not seem to work so well? Clicking on my name and selecting the "view images" option on a post no longer brings up old attachments.

search in thread is helpful for such times, pretty sure search is back up now.

But currently you have to give the rep by opening a new tab, otherwise it pops up where you cant find it.

Thanks. I pass all these style issues onto the style designer to fix for the next release.

Now I can appreciate the better security, bugfixes and features offered with the upgrade, but how difficult would it be to go back to the old black 'n' yellow KB look/layout? (or has that been deliberately dropped for some unknown reason?)

and out of interest, what is the process for these site upgrades? do you simply upgrade and see how it works or is there some trialling done without affecting KB online?

motorbyclist
7th January 2010, 23:58

the threads themselves are now ok and I prefer the new homepage, but the bar/buttons at the top of the page are hideous and in the forums the huge X logos are equally unapealling. Also, can we make the bgcolour of the sticky threads a little less bright?

Students... they never can read. The old Dark Zone is not compatible with vBulletin 4.

Spank ol boy, under New Posts, say you have 17 pages, you're looking at Page 1. You can't quickly navigate to the last page (page 17). As a number, it isn't listed, and only one arrow box is shown (the play symbol). This button increments by one page only. The double play symbol (or similar) doesn't exist. So you have to click on the highest number shown, again and again, to eventually get to the end. No drop down to type in a page number either.

That's not what i meant; learn to read yourself ;)

he mentioned he had a style designer (whereas I thought most of this was spankme's own work), and I'm aware of why we "need" an upgrade - so I ask how difficult it would be to get the old look/layout back. This means changing the .css styles to get the site to look like the old familiar KB. I'd hope it was as simple as giving the designer an old printscreen and waiting an hour or two....

Then, on reflection, I posted what was actually bugging me the most as the new thread format is pretty good now the wrinkles have been ironed out.

maybe we could also change "settings" to "user cp" just to end all that confusion

They say change is a good thing. And I don't mind change if it is for the better. But that change is for the better I am yet to be convinced.
I am not concerned about the new layout and things.
But what's up with the speed of the site. It's gone down to a crawl. Sometimes it won't load at all. Get a message "Server reset, connection timed-out. Server might be busy."

I am using Internet Explorer Browser.
It sucks really because as I type, I forget and then can't even see the words. Even when quoting, the type is not there, but the smilies are. I then have to highlight everything to see where to begin or what to delete etc. Okay, this is an edit. I tried Google chrome and yes, black background, white text. This is IE 8 and it is white, with white...Strange??:(

You'll need to fined out what MIME content type was presented to the browser, and then change the default behaviour for that type to display rather than save it.

Or are you saying this is an intermittent one off issue?

Love the new site btw, it's incredible. I just deleted all my old privvy messages and sent messages. The process felt very clean and refined :) Love it

You'll need to fined out what MIME content type was presented to the browser, and then change the default behaviour for that type to display rather than save it.

Or are you saying this is an intermittent one off issue?

intermittent - the old version would pop up .php files instead

so far that gz file is the only occurance with the new upgrade

Where's the link from?

can't remember, was clicking something in around a social group, probably to get back to the real forums

This really needs to be on a bulletin board site but; ...; the photo view in a thread (like tits and arse) could deliver a much better user experience if while viewing one photo it started retrieving the next photo (aka, force it into the browser cache). Then as soon as you clicked next it would be ready to display, instantly.

Personally, I often find it is best to click next, next, next straight away until you get back to the first photo. Even though the other photos are not retrieved for display, they usually seemed to be downloaded and cached in the background, so they are available as soon as I click "next" to view.

Reputation - on the former site ongoing blings appeared below my page of Subscriptions. Now they have disappeared but where to? I did find a reference to User CP in the FAQ section but I don't have a User CP button. I assume this means User Settings.

The middle click under the wheel usually does the same thing.

Or CTRL+LEFT CLICK. I prefer middle click though.

I have noticed that when I log on to KB at work the little green arrow that shows you have posted in a particular thread does not show on all threads that I have posted in. As soon as I log in at home it does....

Could it be something to do with the IT set up at work? Im not worried about it just interested in why?

When I first click the star to give bling, I get a "Line 14: Member not found" error popping up.

(I have my I.E. set to NOT hide JavaScript errors).

A second click on the star works fine and the bling appears to work.

Spank,
Something else I came accross is when the calender is first viewed the tabs to choose year, month, week or day view aren't seen untill I click either the forward or back a week arrow, then it becomes vissable.

Any chance the year, month, week or day tabs can be their from the first view?
Cheers

I need to remove those arrows from the initial view. vB software has a default calendar which is the one that gets viewed when first entering the calendar. I have modified it to show events from all calendar first, make users pick which calendar they want before adding an event. The mod for this version needs some more work.

spankme, would it be possible to reinstate the calendar entry for february 13-14 for BFTP social group, or at least send it to me as a PM?

cheers and thanks for all your work

Doesn't seem to happen in other browsers. Is their perhaps a newer version of Opera? Basically if the broswer crashes, it is a bug in the browser.

only happens on kb though so figured it could be a glitch in the code that wasn't being properly error handled by opera or something. Has to be a combination of the two rather than just one being at fault, happens on all three of my computers too, Im surprised nobody else has brought up the problem.

I used to be a software engineer. I guess I take the perspective that if any kind of input results in the software crashing - then the software has a bug. It is either not parsing the input correctly, or is not acting on the input correctly.

well regardless of where the fault lies, is there anything i can do about it? I'm not changing browsers as opera work great for almost all other sites
