Just got back from Picton/Nelson holidays. Took the Thunderbird up there on Boxing day, 1 up & stinking hot. Got to Picton, 339kms on 1 tank. Thought that was pretty cool (never had a bike with that range before). Went to fill up in Picton, & despite the trip computer thingy telling me I could do another 25kms, it only took 17.5 litres to fill (22 L tank).
It got better on the way home. Fill up at Wakefield (just out of Nelson), 389 kms later I pull up into the local servo, 17.5 litres is again all it took. This time the trip comp. said 30kms remaining. I'm beginning to think 450 is acheivable (but would hate to look like a dork in the middle of nowhere with a dry tank).
Pretty stoked anyway :woohoo:. Bike is running great with a little over 3100kms now.

I have an 18L tank and can squeeze 297km out of it. I know this because I ended up in the middle of nowhere looking like a dork . Luckily I knew I was running out of fuel with about 60klm to go so called the wife in advance and only had to wait 10 minutes for her (and the can of fuel for the lawnmower) to arrive. :2thumbsup:

I can only dream of getting that far, 240kms and yes i too was a dork rofl, But really happy that the wife was only minutes behind me coming home from work. Think mine is a 21 ltr tank and once that little light come on it find fuel fast

holy crap? You going balls out all the time or something. Local blackbird round these parts will do ~350ish on a tank and its kitted with a PC3 and hes not that nice to it.
The 9 will do a confirmed 307km to a tank and is a bitch to push.

Good effort UKUSA - gotta be happy with that!
The ST1300 has a huge 29L tank on it, and I have had 525 km's out of it - it's a nice feeling to have that sort of range available, especially when some whippersnappers on KTM's are chasing and passing you on the Grand Challenge!

Last time I did Rangivegas to Picton non stop the tripmeter said 325km and it took 21litres which worked out at 15.47km per litre, supposedly the tank holds 24 litres, so I still had a bit in reserve.
Later this year the bike will be going on the dyno to see about getting rid of a couple of flats spots, it will be interesting to see if there is any improvement after that

17.5l is almost exactly 80% of 22l. Sounds like the trip computer has the concept of a "reserve" tank built it - it just starts when the display goes to zero. :)

hmmm interesting reading. Recently rode from Auckland to Wellington and back on my 99 Roadking. While I keep a docile speed I manage to squeeze 220km from a tank so have to fill up twice on my journey. While I do a bit of AKL city traffic, my range is more around the 150km mark. Only have a standard tank, 14L refill usually but with a huge reseve when the light goes on.

That's pretty damn impressive, alright, from the T-Bird.
Anyway, I have a '96 TDM850 - 20l tank @ 18km/l = 360 kms before fumes. I like to fill it before that happens, though.
Fuel usage has been averaged over 16 mths and 25k kms.
The economy has been worsening slightly over recent times; I suspect the well-reported TDM850 needle jets may need replacing.

I got roughly 400km (250 miles) from a 21 litre tank. Just under 13 km/litre...ish.
Fuel light comes on at 200 miles... a tad early and around the 16.5 litre mark.

The Roady does 300km per 19 litre tank but I dont push it past 240km. Provided I fill the can the R71 does 580km.

360kms! Your brave. I fill up at 280k ish & it must be pretty close to reserve. I know my emulsion tubes are oval though. I average 6.5ltr/100k.

360 kms is an untested estimate - usually fill up between 250-300 kms so as not to test the "fumes" theoretical range. They are a fine bike, but far, far too heavy to push and I am feeling older and more frail as time goes by. I have been looking at the FactoryPro site and may look at doing them before a big trip in February.
Average is 5.7l/100km

Me neither. 2000 W/g, basically stock and I struggle to get 250km per tank. I think my best on light-throttle commuting was about 252 when I switched to reserve. Last w/e I was a bit hard on it and the needle was in the red at 195. How and where you're riding makes a big difference.

That's pretty good going, but there are plenty of flat, straight roads in your neck of the woods. Try a few blasts over the Takaka hill lol.

I can get about 300km before I am out of gas (never been there - or even hit reserve) - that's why I always fill-up when I've done 260km or so.
Thats why I like my 1450cc plodder, over 55mpg easily iin the old fashioned way...

I don't really want to find out.. apart from the obvious inconvenience of being stuck in the middle of no-where, I don't want the fuel injectors, or fuel pump to run dry, or worse, run on the water and other crap that inevitably finds its way into a fuel tank over time...

My old FXR with the 1340 did better though, I could easily get to Taupo from the North Shore, roughly 300kms, on a tank. Much the same deal, basically stock engine etc but I guess it's a combination of having another 110cc's and using them. I've never bothered to check if the final drive ratios are the same but the Twin Cam feels a bit 'revvier', if that's a word. Ultimately I really don't give a shit. Having always been a big fan of American cars and owning more than I can recall, motorcycle fuel consumption doesn't rate.

During any given trip, how often do you start the engine?

At a rough guess I'd say - every time

So that's once, right? Holding the throttle at a predetermined position for the entire trip (assuming that's a 'light' throttle setting) after starting the engine and cruising at (? kph) in (I'm assuming) top gear you'd have how much fun?

Even commuting and round town, if I can get to 300km before reserve I can make 400 on a tank. The ZZR holds 24 litres including a 6 litre reserve.
Once with the handbrake on the back I got over 450 k but that was 'cos my planned stop was shut. Never been so pleased to get to Te Kuiti in all my life.

I have an 18L tank and can squeeze 297km out of it. .....Only a Scot could "Squeeze" 297 frum a Ducati tank....
262 on my monster...Te Anau, Milford Return....plus a bit. I wanted to find out and was carrying 2 L spare with me.

My 96 injected RoadKing would give me 300 ks and my new 2009 with the bigger tank gives me just over 400 ks

I could live with that. I don't trust the fuel gage on my HD.
