View Full Version : It's like having a new bike!

I've had a Tiger 1050 for about 18 months now and have been meaning to update the exhaust to something that sounds less like a sewing machine @ under 5000rpm (it’s a safety thing you know!).

Loads of choices out there and just waiting for the right opportunity. Micron went bust last year. Whilst this was very sad ‘cos I have always liked their kit; in December I saw a new Micron Beta race exhaust at a silly price on eBay.

Considering I was about to buy an Arrow for almost twice the price, I couldn’t miss the opportunity. That was my Christmas present and I have been trying to answer the "What exactly was wrong with the 'only 18 months old' exhaust that came with it?” questions ever since.
"It’s a safety thing you know" isn’t really being understood. This could be something to do with the $400k life insurance policy :)

Anyway having spent the last couple of weeks paying my penance for being so selfish I finally got a couple of hours free this morning to rip the old one off and bung the new one on.

What a difference 2 hours can make!

Micron Beta Titanium Exhaust $505
K & N Filter $135
TOR Map re-tune FOC

So for $640 and two hours of my time, I am now riding what feels like a brand new bike. Wife still doesn’t understand and says it sounds worse because it’s noisy.

Well for me it’s like having a new bike! Fantastic throaty sound and 12-15bhp of extra pulling power. The performance difference is really quite noticeable and I am grinning as widely as I did when I first got the bike.

Very happy indeed!

Awesome dude.

I'm getting a Dyna Jet kit installed for my '01 SV650s. It already has an aftermarket pipe but it has been spluttering and surging like crazy. Hoping I get the same results as you.

The DynoJet and Power Commander kits are very good at managing and balancing the new configuration.

Triumph use Tuneboy and you can manage and balance your confiruration via your own PC. It's amazing that all you need to do is plug it into a USB port and away you go.

Good luck with that. Maybe your S V will go as good as this one:

Yeah I like quiet bikes if it suits their character & seems to on the Tiger. Just it is too damn quiet even for me & something has got to give when I get the time. Did you not have the TOR tune fitted before? This might have been much of the improvement, especially responsiveness improvement & snatchyness removal.

Might have to do the homemade TOR pipe conversion or maybe 1/2 of it so it is louder but not loud.

The Micron can states that it will work happily with the standard tune.

I stuck it on and went for a ride. It made a huge difference. I am sure that some of it was psychological as the troaty sound is awesome.

I have not ever had an issue with smoothness or the snatch that people talk about. But after the TOR tune, it really was a whole lot smoother so I guess I was just used to how it was before.

The airbox mod just made it so much more responsive at low revs.

Very pleased with the result. If you need some help with what's what for the airbox, take a look here:

Good luck.

Yeah I'd seen the airbox mod, already have a K&N but it ran so smooth I didn't want to mess with it too much in case I got the dreaded fueling issues many seem to talk of. Might give it a go later, but I'm happy enough with the power despite coming from a faster bike. Spending time & $ on the suspension, just tested the new front springs (just fitted the Ohlins shock & Racetech fork valves). Still some tinkering to do with spring rates & settings. So much better so far though, esp the front. And the rear.
