I think I have a spare one among my bits and pieces. I would be prepared to sell it for around $1000.

Is that made out of a rubber-band?

Big Dave

It's rarely the powerband - usually the flux capacitor needs aligning and a new coat of emery sparks.

I think it would look good in Tartan. Anyone selling tartan paint?

I thought it may have been the flux capacitor that needed aligning.

I wonder what color powerband it has at the moment

I think they may have fitted the red one, because they are faster... BUT everybody knows the Red ones are for Hondas and Yamahas actually use the Blue one... Suzuki, yellow, and Kawasaki Green...
Easy mistake to make, the bike being red and all....

For a Grand, good buying. I have a few powerbands hanging up in my shed to get it running properly ;)

Thats the yellow one though. We need to find a blue one as it is a yamaha powerband. Unless they are interchangable but i dont think they are.

Hmm well I have these red 'go faster' ones but like they say in the description they are VERY HEAVY, next year the carbon fibre ones will be coming out to reduce the overall weight.

I'm checking with my suppliers re: the blue ones now..

Just got word back regarding the blue ones, these should do the job and result in much better performance, a fuel economy boost and better low speed stability to boot!

Send me a PM if your interested.

The secret is not in what powerband you get, but in how you fit it. I remember once I put it in back-to-front. Took ages before I figured out why I needed bigger mirrors.

Its never good when the bike suddenly launches it self backwards along the motorway when the powerband kicks in.

I think I've got a spare one in the shed off my old Kwaka H2 750, not sure if it would be compatible with a Yammy 250 though....

On a slightly more serious note, it looks like it must have been working well enough to do burnouts, judging by pic # 2. Maybe it's just got a bit of tyre rubber blocking it up?

bogan

clearly its powerband has become wrapped around the rev counter, thus disabling both. However the powerbank is a fickle creature so can be eniticed out by a nice clean set of cans or powdered valves, or forced out with copiuos amounts of two stroke fumes.

serious note though, could the rev counter not going be a symptom of the powervalve not being activated at high revs...

You have to double the 750 powerbands over to fit the 250's...

Could be difficult with a three cylinder 750 though as I don't think you can split them. :innocent:
Also, is there a difference between air cooled and liquid cooled powerbands? Sorry, I'm a bit rusty on my two smoker stuff....it's been a while...

Can you get the powerbands in for the 4 strokes? If I could upgrade my CBR250 to have a powerband and flux capacitor I wouldn't need to purchase a 2 stroke. I wonder if it will still sound like a 4 stroke. If not i guess i could put on some 2 stroke expansion chambers to get the powerband sound

Yeah, you just trim them to fit... Any good Stanley knife will do the job. But you could have a point about the liquid-cooled motors. My old T500 twin was air-cooled and the powerband only worked up to 6,000rpm by which time it was stretched to the limit. These liquid-cooled motors rev a bit higher which could lead to over-stretching and... Oh, maybe that's his problem, he's fitted an air-cooled powerband to his liquid-cooled bike!

Maybe the rubber powerband wasn't wound up tight enough, causing it to be inoperable. Some sugar added to the petrol tank should sort it.

It makes them sound like a 3 stroke ! Like a cross between a RGV250 and a VTR250

jeez you guyss talk shit. Yamaha has been producing poerbands for a number of years. the problem is that the assumption is made that the yamaha powerbands for our domestic model are the same as for the jap import model which of course they are not. what confuses matters somewhatis that the japimport powerbands have a part number all but identical to the australasian version. Fitting of the correct powerbandis vital.

OR the bike may need the power valves removed and decoked and new powervalve seals fitted.

I sincerely hope that the person who asked the first question in that Auction and the owner receive some education. Thats a sweet bike and it really needs someone who knows what their doing to sort it out.

If not I have a spare power band I'm willing to let go for $850.

you guys are both sick and funny. Pissed my self laughing. Got to feel sorry for this poor kid.
How ever dont think its the powaband thats faulty, most probably the lack of power is from the lumps of coal he has been feeding into the tank.

This sort of thing is pretty common on trade me there really are some fuckwits out there.
It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who cant tell the difference between
a 2 tsroke and 4 stroke bike, and the number of people who ask sellers if its "a powerband" is unreal

I can see that you have solved the problem for potential purchases by importing some powerbands :) good on ya :2thumbsup
