Young hXc is moving out, going flatting and making his own way in the world. He is the last of our brood to do so.
After 6 kids and 35 years of being a parent, it feels a little 'different'. Even when he buggered off overseas, we knew he was coming back....
It is now time for us, well deserved IMHO...Mstrs and I got together 21 years ago, each with kids, and the dramas that blended families bring. Now they have all gone, and our 'job' is done (not that you ever stop being a parent, but the hands on day to day stuff is over)
It will be nice to be just a couple and have time to devote to us, I reckon.

But how would you know? The mother duck might be thinking "yee-haaar, bring on the drakes", you never know with ducks.

I,ll be glad when my two move out in a couple of years, then I can have my life back....being a solo Dad isnt exactly what I had planned for the last 10yrs.....cramps your style a bit....still love them though..
Probably won,t know what to do with myself once they have gone.

I've found it great Yungatart.

After having four boys eating and drinking me outta house n home I can finally relax.

The food bill was cut by at least 75% and when I fill the fridge up with beer it stays there untill "I Drink It"

However my wife is missing cleaning up after them.... I do my best to fill the void .......but I just cant seem to make the same amount of mess.

Wounder if there would be any consequences or maybe even a reward for trying harder.

What's the secret?
Tell me, so I can get rid of the MutantTroglodyteSprogs. They currently cost me in the vicinity of $1200/month to feed, water, and provide with Interdweebs. :eek5:
Mind you, between them they contribute about $400/month in board, so I'm only down by $800/month, or $9600/year.

Iffen I got rid of them, I could afford a new bike... :weep:

One word ! RULES!!! Make 'em tough...the little beggars can't wait to leave...absolutely NEVER bend them, because then you will be stuck with them for alll eternity.
If all else fails, see Mom's post above...guaranteed to send them packing!

I'm not clucky...FFS, you don't think six of the little darlings have cured me of that?....plus the seven squealing grandies....sheesh, man, I'm looking forward to quieter pursuits like the crackle of my trusty kwaka...if only I had some money...

You guys are thinkin' 'bout this all wrong. Don't think of them as kids, think of them as a crop: some of those sweat shops strewn throughout the world would pay good money for 'em. Time they learned how to make those Nikes that YOU paid for.

Funny thing is, now we're Darby and Joan, and enjoy some quiet, we still had to buy a people-mover for the holidays and it was packed. We still have a three-bedroom home and need the two other rooms, we have four vehicles including the bike, (but we're reluctantly selling the Pulsar that we've owned since new).

Only got one grandson, so far, but we have him every Thursday night. And our kids are 25, 30, and 34, with both daughters married and our son in Aus!

We're having some time to ourselves this week...

Its a funny old feeling for sure. But Its good to have the peace and quiet and a few more $ to spend on yourselves. Enjoy it!

Ive had all mine staying or visiting over xmas/new year. They all went off to Gisborne for New Years and it was total bliss getting up to a house just as id left it the night before. Came home from work last night to all seven of them and two hangers on. Mattresses everywhere and every dish in the house on the bench. Highlight though....one 6'4" son meets me at the door with a big hug, an "I love you ,Mum", hands me a plate of dessert and says "get this in ya". What do ya do with them really!!

I've still got a couple of boys at home...and a daughter has come back with grandchild. It was just me and the boys over Xmas...we just ignored each other and did all the chores on the last day.Although I had to cut short my ride when I got the txt they were coming home.I don't know if I will ever have the empty nest feeling.....

Good on you! :2thumbsup. We went through it 3 times. Seeing our first one off to Otago Uni was a bit traumatic (for all of a few days:laugh:) but by the time the 3rd one left, it was getting better and better. Jennie celebrated not having to run little parasites around by buying an MX5 - maybe you could do something similar???

Only one downside though.... the kids left but we are still a storage depot for them. Don't make the same mistake or you'll have stuff forever, haha.

Enjoy your freedom!

Geoff

Charge 'em market rates. You will be doing them a favour in the long run and speed up the bike renewal process.
