Hey guys,

I'm in the process of building an engine for a university project and want to know something about crankshaft tapers. The crankshaft I have at the moment is from a YZ250F and the crankshaft I may need (depending on the answers to my question) is from a WR250F. Does anybody know whether the taper on crankshaft for the flywheel on the WR250F is the same as the one on the WR450F

One of the reasons behind my question is that I noticed that the crank taper on the YZ450F is the same as the one of the YZ250F, so I thought the same logic may apply to the WR's

A little background on my project: I am partway through making a 500cc V-Twin from two YZ250F barrels and heads. I've had a prototype running and now I want to add a starter motor. I have the starter motor, gears and sprag clutches from a WR450F, from a previous project that I want to attach to the engine. If I can use a WR250F crank and do minimal modifications to other parts, I will. If not I'll have to work something else out.

Cheers in advance.

could be wrong but i thought the would be the same part for the wr and the yz

I would have thought they would be the same as well. I know that any taper 3degrees or under is a self locking and anything over 3 degrees is not. I wonder if its stated in the manuals Barty?
