For fans of Bibendum there appears to be a new light tyre on the horizon.

It's intended to be superior to the Pilot Power 2CT. It wasn't mentioned on the Michelin website when I checked, so it might be a bit soon to rush to your usual supplier.

Alas my technical competence won't let me post the ad here but a Google search will lead you to other biker sites which include the ad.

I got asked if I wanted to throw them on the bike instead of the 2ct (when it arrives). They said they wanted more people to ride them so they can get an opinion out there. I decided I'd stick to the 2cts as I'm not going to need all the tyre. The lightness I was swaying towards but I have a thing about have channels right to the edges. Pure's don't have them. From several people I've heard that have swapped out their 2cts for the pure, they love them. I've heard no one not like them so far. They say there's heaps more feel and response. Of course, since I haven't ridden them I can't vouch for them.

I suppose if you like Miccies to start with and like the 2cts, you'll dig the Pures more. If I was doing track days more I would personally grab them. Dunno, I may still put them on the bike.

Sure John.

Michelin Pilot Power Pure 2CT

Got some put on my new 675 Daytona which was delivered last Weds by Anza.
I got the Pirellis removed and swapped before I got it. I've always had Miches.

I did 300 plus kms on Sat up the Wairoa rd and about.
I would rate them as the best tyres I've ever ridden on. I did'nt go easy on them, did'nt 'scrub' them in, just on and go.
Not a slide, nothing bad, and grip.
The grip was as good as the Pope on an alter boy.
Gave total confidence.
And we hit a torrentail downpour that gave 0 visibilty for a while and there were no issues, but I did slow a lot.

I've always had PR2CT and lately Power 2CT and IMO they out perform them easy.
As for tyre life........dunno........prob not a lot. Look ok after 300 plus kms, but the 675 is'nt a heavy bike.
I intend to use the 675 mainly for trackdays more than road so tyre life is'nt an issue with me.
But then again, it's so damn fun on the road with this new thingy.

Cheers Ckai, I went to spectate at a trackday at Manfeild a few weeks back and there were quite a few bikes with them on already and I did'nt even go looking.

Cheers Dooly, truth is i've already ordered a set but i'm trying to get a feel for what to expect when I finally put them on which won't be for a while yet, sounding to me like they'll be worth the wait but it'll have to wait until I wear out the Pirelli Angel ST's i'm running at the moment.
Congrats on the 675, is it a new one? What colour is it? Sell one of ya other bikes and have one for the track and one for the road, problem solved. :niceone:

I will probably post my thoughts on them once they have been on a while, we'll see how they go with a big heavy guy on a big heavy bike with a reasonable amount of grunt, in the back of my mind i'm expecting them to disappear pretty quickly but it'll be interesting for sure as the new suspension will hopefully optimize tyre wear to a certain degree.

Fook'n PR2s feather up badly because of those silly channels to the edge.

What are ya nuts!!!??? I don't use all the tyre in the dry let alone wet. "I have a thing for channels to the edge"...meaning it's physiological.

It's the same as when I have to put 2 pairs of undies on in the mourning or when I have to tie, untie then retie my left shoe an 10:23am every day. It's just a thing.

haha there's never a rational reason for what I do/think.

But you do raise an interesting point. How many people would use the channels at the edge of any tyre in the wet? They say you can lean only a fraction less in the wet than if it was dry (different discussion) but how many people do? And is it better to get a tyre like the Pure which, having the 'slick' edges, be better for dry weather riding when you're, let's be honest, gonna be going for it?

Maybe I should have a talk with my other personalities and discuss what I really need.

So what are the price of the Pures compared with the 2CT's?

That depends largely on how long it's been since any rain... and the type of surface... wet concrete is very different to wet tar snake riddled road...

A bit dearer than the 2ct but not much. It'll be interesting to see what mileage people end up getting out of them.

Michelin Pilot Power Pure 2CT

Keep meaning to ask, do the P Pure's ride ok? Been a common observation 'round these parts the Michelin Pilot Power/Road 2's are quite a hard riding tyres, they seem to have a quite a stiff carcass but I have'nt laid eyes on the tires I ordered yet so I have'nt been able to compare them.

onearmedbandit

In the states you can get a set from about US$240. Mine would be just over that, about $280. That's advertised prices on websites with stock.

IIRC I saw the Pures in Boyds yesterday and a set was around $600 - $650? I theeenk... That was 120/70 plus 180/55...

Yeah I'd expect most people will get a deal if buying a set together, I know I've always been offered a decent discount in the past when doing so. But still I wouldn't expect to pay anything less than $600 here.

Feel great to me.
But it was the first ride on the new bike and what I ordered with it new, so can't compare another type of tyre. And the bike only has 400kms on it so far.
I had Power2s on the 955 and the rear was awful on it, but think it may of been a crook tyre as I swapped a used Power2 off Rob's R1 to try it and did a trackday and it was fine, so???
Also have Power2s on the Ducati which are brilliant, grip fine and no issues at all.

Hi just come back from the Cold Duck via Gisbourne, I fitted a set of Pures to my ZX12r before leaving, they have 1860kms on them, with good feel no sliding (but no rain). The front is feathering quite a bit, I expect I might need to replace the front before the rear. I measured tread dept on various places on both front and rear, varies 4.8mm to 5.5mm new. At 1800kms have dropped 1.8mm +\- .3mm, So, might get 5k from them. Would have tried Conty attack 2 if set was in stock, next time maybe.

That kinda fits with their design brief - sports/track day tyre. You just shouldn't expect the same sort of life that you would get out of a sports tourer like a PR2, or the many similarly focused tyres.
Our roads chew these sticky tyres up fast compared to the majority of European roads, and tyres that get acceptable mileage over there can get pulled to bits pretty quickly out here.
I'm not sold on the "kevlar belt for lightness" thing. Sure, on the track it's a big thing, but on the road you loose the ability of the tyre to radiate heat away from the centre to give greater longevity.
Great tyre for some, but not ideal for everybody I suspect.

Got them on my geriatric 'blade . Took them round Puke at an ART day and almost wore the right footpeg off . great at superdeep late braking at the hairpin and turn beautfully . They look to be doing pretty good mileage and wet grip is fine . pm me for a special kb price .
