Please don't take this as me defending the perp in any way shape or form. I'm not.

With a good friend of mine having his daughters go through something similar my experience is that name suppression is often related to protecting the victims. The internet has a LOOOONG memory and often times a key part of a victim getting over their past is for them to work through the issues - then leave it behind.

Imagine in 15 years time that poor kid having her past pop up totally randomly "Hey I googled your name, weren't you tha same abc that got... "

Google "max heslehurst" as an example of that...

Name suppression is all good as long as the case is running. If a guilty verdict (after the final appeal case if applicable) is returned I'd say let the victims decide whether to let the name suppression stand or not.

i agree, should be the victims choice - should be the victim that has name suppression

My child is 13 this year, if anyone even dares touches her, there will be no name suppression if I had my way the bastard deserves everything they get. But in reading some of these threads, I would give her an allowance of choice... really ! The thought does sicken me, and they would have a 5ft2 scorpian to deal with.... to boot.
