Had a guy who trains at the same gym as I do come in the other day with his elbow the size of my leg. A white tail had bitten him while he was relaxing on the couch. Fuck knows what he was doing at the gym!
I spoke to him a week later and asked how he was and said he had just gotten out of hospital after a four day stint. He said his elbow looked like a volcano. They had him on an IV.
I'm sure if had rested instead of working out he would have been better off. Just shows how nasty those little shits are.

Its not that bad really.. you sort of get used to it....
That bite is not causing me any concern, just a bit itchy.....
Woke up the other night to walk to the dunny.. and here is thing on the floor.. looked like a large bootlace....
Gave it a poke with a stick.. and was a small snake..... was very small..
but i think they are still a bit dangerous. when they are young
jumped up on the bench.. and boiled the jug.... poured the hot water over it.... he didnt like that at all..
we were doing some fencing and there was a small spider on the pales we had just ordered in..
Look at that says.. robo...... it was a redback.... and i had my nose 2 inches from it.
we donged it with a claw hammer.
Trying to put my camera on macro .. to take a pic.. dam electronic things......
Other than being biten... chased by a snake.. stung by various insects... and flushing a few cane toads in the toilet.... life is good......
Heading out the back.. for 6 weeks work.... thats going to be an adventure......

Kev is trying to keep you Kiwi's away! Yeah theres a few creepy crawlies....but on the positive side, not many homes that dont have Gekko's behind all the pictures, they "chirp" to each other like birds at night, and keep the spider and fly population under control. Gorgeous Birds abound, and visit the areas you live on a daily basis, (Harmless) Bearded and Water dragons, sun themselves on rocks by the pool, and Wallabies, Potaroos, and Bush Turkeys often cross the back yard to see whats going on.
Depends on your outlook...if your a fearful person, you can frett about the possibility of a redback under the toilet seat...or you can stand out the back with a beer in your hand, look at the paradise in front of your eyes and say "Hows the serenity?"

Too true, having Huntmans and geckos in the house is a 'good' thing... means theres nothing worse flatting with ya.
I remember the many nights ya hear heavy foot steps run across the floor, meh shut the eyes pull the sheet up and think 'it dosnt want me'
Ya me amazed whats out in the yard, harmless and deadly... but generaly they dont want any trouble.
And NZ aint as fre from poisness critters as you might think.
Sounds like ya enjoying it Kev... I had to work on a rock damn (Brissie) and amoungest them rocks were pleanty of browns... never was hassled, they are more of an issue on the road avoid running any snake over if possible or you might find it curling up on the pilion seat or in the engine bay.

I overheard two Aussie green blow flies (over here on a break) talking on a horse shit the other day.
They said that the animal world over there is in an uproar about the quality of the Kiwi's that are coming over there nowadays.
Apparently they reckon "kevfromcoro" looks and tastes fucking terrible! But then again they "were" Aussie blowflies and it's only hearsay after all! :psst: Aussies? :weird:

Hey kev, how's it going mate
Prob was a snake bite. nah, you don't always feel them & prob not see it either. Just keep an eye out for any change to skin or feeling, You'll be right. (alkihall will kill most stuff :drinknsin)
had a quick look around the house while reading the thread.
Redbacks in the garden shed, in the workshop & in the bike garage (never leave your bikegear there ;))
Whitetail in the bedroom (must remember to sheew away before bedtime)
Huntsman (well lost count) Not dangerous - but yeah, fast little fuckers. They can run up one leg & down the other before you know it. Had one drop on my head when I turned the shower on, he was stretched across the shower head.
Snakes - nup, too hot today to be out. But I could prob find one if you're really keen.
...Oh & cockies, the ones in Qld fly, big buggers. Best not sleep with your mouth open either. Nom! Nom!
Ya just get used to being in their world.
On the plus side I have yellow cockies, black cockies (the feathered sort)
Crimson Rosellas, various Lorikeets, Parakeets, Finches, Bellbirds, Wattlebirds etc. Kookaburras & Owls in the back yard too. Even discovered a pair of Red-wiskered Bulbul calling my garden home.
So not a bad place to live.
Just won't catch me near the water - chomp! chomp!
YaY! have pics now (all them white things in the pine tree are cockies)

Really? please elaborate? I kept reading that Aus was the most poisonous place on earth.
I've lived in South Africa for 7 years so I know what it's like. There are venomous scorpions and snakes which will kill you with 1 bite. Ostriches are common and can be very aggressive. They have been known to kill people. Lions kill people, so do elephants. Mosquitos spread deadly diseases. Cape Buffalo are capable of killing lions. Then there are leopards, rhinos and hyena. You're not safe in the water either. Great white sharks are extremely common around Seal Island, and many other coastal areas. Deadly jellyfish also thrive in those waters. In the northern parts of the country crocodiles also exist. And the greatest threat of all, is the kaffir.

My brother used to have a place in Beaudesert.
Had a fucking Huntsman on the kitchen ceiling the other morning - they don't half give you a fright when you're half asleep. A few white tails and thousands of Redbacks - had one in the barn built a web on the bike handlebars one night - bastige! And I've got to watch it when I get my home brew out of the storage boxes.... The ones I don't like are those gnarly looking tree spiders that build webs after the sun goes down - normally across footpaths or between bushes. It can be clear one minute, you go out to the chook pen or dog run and wallop - straight through a new web with an irate spider running around yr neck!!!! Haven't seen any snakes (alive) so, obviously, making enough noise around the place - mainly Dugites and Tigers around our way. Parrots - thousands of Galahs, 28's, black and white cockatoos - the bastards eat all yr fruit of the trees and chop off any shoots they can get - got 2 grape vines that got badly pruned by the shits this year - still - the dog is doing her best to keep the numbers down.

I supose it's just what you're used to. We grew up in Brissie mostly, in Tenterfield & a bit of a stint back in Canada. (chased by bear). But dad was a bit of a bushy, so we were always out bush, travelling, gold panning, camping etc.
Had a shark brush my leg at Mooroochydore, been stung by a Blue Bottle (recuring pain for over 10 yrs), had a sea snake swim past my face, got bumped by a manta ray off the Great Keppal Islands while boom-netting, been bit by a spider 25yrs ago & the spot (left cheek :o ) still flairs up. Have snakes & assorted spidies here. Not to mention the various types of biting ants.
But it's not like you encounter all thing dangerous in one week. Most people would be luck to encounter 1 or 2 in their lifetime.

Saw something the other day on those jellyfish. Bloody hell the mess they make.
Skyryderthe longer the tenticles, the more they wrap around & harder to remove. Excruciating pain. Mine was a tiny one, about 8in long. When I lived at Airley Beach you had (if you knew what was out there ;) )to swim inside the wooden barriers. It kept the sharks, rays & bigger jellyfish out. Gotta love living in paradise
yeah, stingers on the QLD coast... to be honest those bastards had me most worried of all, never did do a lot of swimming over there.I never swim in the ocean any more. Even some of the ocean feed rivers have sharks now.... < ^ < Plus I is a woos
They'd be more frightened of you I think D.they is made of jelly... that means they would giggle with fright
Nah those things are ok...
They are only attracted to purple and green...
I know... cause one bit me on the knob......not biting, I mean touching, I mean trying that one... oh fuck it, you know what I mean :oi-grr:

Sounds like you are making lots of friends, Kev!
That area I've visited quite a bit; got quite a bit of family up that way.
oh yeah.....havent you noticed, we have white tail spiders over this side of the Tasman and you think your safe:laugh:White tails are somewhat maligned. They haven't been proven to cause any deaths in NZ yet. I've found & killed a few beauties in our house, 3 in the last 2 years that were 40-50mm long. Googled them after I nearly stepped on the first one, some good info online.
PS Found a blue bottle in the water here at Tahunanui Beach last week. See a few washed up on the beach now and then.
