Posted a little about this in another thread... but have to say if you see a Yamaha Scorpian 225, with a sturdy fella on board, no real bike gear, and rides quick... in Franklin (ak).... watch out... he overtakes on double yellow lines, and undertakes other bikes... grrrr. We were not impressed!!!

By undertaking I am assuming you meant he passed riders on the inside on a single lane? What a cock.

Moral of the story.... treat EVERYONE! like they're out to get you, including other bikers

I would not have flamed you ... I honestly think the guy thought he was doing the right thing, cause there was double yellow lanes in the middle. No shit about the everyone part... lol I see a truck coming up behind me or even passing, I move as far away as I can, self preservation is my middle name.

Dont suppose you were a bit too close to the double yellows,
The rider behind you couldnt pass hence you hogging the yellows.
He realises you are a bit new to riding so he decides to pass on the inside for his own safety,
Just as he does, you notice him so close and pull over to the left assuming he'd pass on the right.
Therefore you both end up nearly hitting eachother due to circumstance?

I had the road in the middle (no where near double yellow lines), I was doing 95km, and he was speeding, and it was a two way, there is no way in hell he should have undertaken me... he is a accident waiting to happen unfornately, there is nothing safe in what he did. AND even if I was close the double yellow, overtaking is illegal on double full yellow lines, they are there for a reason. :)
Any one know for sure the law for undertaking on on double lanes....you know what I mean, a truck in the right lane doing 90 and the left lane is clear?
On the motorway in England trucks can't drive in the overtaking lane, some people here have the mentality that the right lane is the fast lane, and trucks should not speed, as there stopping power is slower, I only know when I drove a 7ft van, once a car pulled out in front of me presuming I was going slower, and I damn well near hit him. But if your on the motorway and there doing 90km in the overtaking lane, and not overtaking, I would go to the left carefully... touch wood I have never had a accident.

Until they have a bad accident that is... that sort of "experience" usually changes their outlook slightly.
Yeah its illegal alright, and with good reason. The road to your left is yours for use in an emergency. Other riders should take care to not occupy it without your consent, knowledge, or direct invitation.
Don't worry too much. It is unlikely you will get drawn into their situation if you are smooth and controlled, and don't make sudden moves.

There's more to this story than meets the eye must have been down hill or a good tailwind or maybe he hung on to the back of one of your mates bikes and sling shot himself through

Undertaking, bad habit. Surely, if the other guy is going so slow you have to get past him it must be possible to do a proper overtake.

I've had cause to do that before, I was following a CBR 250 RR and came up to a green light, as it turned yellow he slammed on his breaks pretty hard and me being on a larger bike knew I couldn't break as fast so I slipped up the left hand side and went through the light.
Edit: I probably could have stopped but it would have been dangerous to do so.

I don't think you can control everything or every incident you can see as potentialy dangerous, usually something good will come out of it, like this motorcyclist will die by his wrong doing and not involve anyone else, or the tourist will end his life banging into a very large truck, not a motorcyclist.

I understand the frustration when a slower vehicle blocks the road...but there is never justification to overtake on the left...buy a Stebel Airhorn!
At Bikoi, I happened to turn up just as the cop cars and bikes pulled out to lead the convoy..I was about 4th or 5th in line.....
Now....I always try and follow at a safe distance, say 5 to 7 meters at the speed Bikoi was moving......I estimate being overtaken by over 100 bikes!
In a convoy....Why do ppl feel the need to overtake??????? I was virtually going backwards trying to maintain a safe gap!
I took station in the left of my lane (to prevent LH overtaking) and I suppose it could have looked like an invite to pass....

I have to say I am not experienced, but I am not a idiot either, nor was I travelling slow (dble yellow on my right).... so regardless of L plate, and 2 experienced riders behind me... he undertook all 3 of us on the left hand white line.... (just an update so you all understand what happened again). If he had sat behind us long enough we would have moved over as we usually do... or he could have waited for a opportune moment to overtake legally, but he didn't... and we/he were lucky nothing bad happened... food for thought, I mentioned this for the simple reason that someone here may know him, and someone does... you can't change the mind of an idiot sadly.

A few things re all this:
- You can overtake on double yellow line as long as you do not cross them.
- Sitting behind someone hogging the r/h side of the lane while going slow is annoying.
- Always know what is happening behind you. Look in the mirrors! (Last w/e I had overtaken a late model car at speed. I came to a long hill with a overtaking lane and was sitting in the l/h lane. The road turned right and I was planning to move to the r/h lane beacuse I felt the "flow" would be better. Yes, I was riding over the 100k speed limit, and normally very few overtake me. But I looked in the mirror before I moved over... and the car was there and overtaking me. If I had not looked...)
- 3 of you being "undertaken" must have felt humiliating. But remember all the cars that move over to the left so you can pass. Just do the same if you are on a bike.
No I would never "undertake" a car or a bike on the road. But drivers/riders who have no idea what is happening behind them do annoy me.

I agree with every thing in this but the first part. thats like grabbing someones stearing wheel while driving.
thats more dangerous than left hand undertaking. do it to me and i would kick you off your bike.
We were travelling about 10kph at the time....
But if he had continued to invade my space...I'm not above giving out a harsh lesson or two myself.....Which side is your throttle on again?

Keyboard Commandos rock! You bragged about fucking with someones killswitch because they were "undertaking" you (at 10km/h...). And HE is a "Keyboard Warrior"... So I suppose you support cars that swerve to stop lane splitters as well?
