Just a quick one as i'm straight back out to work on the Hyosung in preparation of next weekends nationals.
Qualified on saturday, slowly getting to grips with the new tyres and was 6th. First race saw the track covered in oild from an F5000 car, from pitlane right round to the dipper - 4/5ths of the track. We all were fairly careful. Stayed with Dennis Charlett and John Ross for most of the race. I looked over my shoulder at one point and the wind tore one side of my visor off, so my vision was a bit sketchy for the rest of the race. Diced with A couple of superbikes for the last few laps and ended between them - but not before running off the track trying to get around some lapped motards on the last lap!
Battery issues meant I couldn't get the bike working right on sunday so I put it away to save tyres for next weekend. However, I had been invited to do a demo on the new BMW S1000RR, and was allowed to do around 10 laps at lunch. What a bike! Loved it. Everything is so well setup and it felt great right from the off. Will be one to watch out for in future I would think :) I feel very priveliged to be asked to be the first to ride one in NZ. Thanks to John at BMW NZ, and Rodney and the team at Jeff Grey BMW down here in Christchurch.
Cheers,
Jay

Nice, quite peaky power from what Ive read? true? Was it the trick one with the gizmos?

Top endy, but not peaky. Just big power, is all I'd say. Happy to spin the tyre from the apex at about 8rpm, but pulls right through to 14. Very capable on track. Great throttle control. handle like an R6. Not, pre prod model, with just the mapping, no DTC and Race ABS.

Does Jay now have abs? A winter diet?

This example didn't have it, but yes it will. In the slick mode, you have full control over the rear brake - if you want to lock it up it will. It will just look after the front.
The ABS does all the work for you.
Lol. Nah, ABS still can't back it in for you mate ;)

You too dude. Nah, Mum gave up trying too. Whatd you think of the track?

Haha, they wern't even supposed to have it ridden, we/they had to beg hard!

Somewhere under my guts, i'm sure. Winter tone down i'd call it.

Loved the track. Not 'cos it's easy, 'cos it isn't, but it's just got a bit of everything and flows pretty well, I reckon. With Ruapuna on their doorstep it's no wonder James Smith, Dennis Charlett, the Hoogies etc etc (and now you, ya puddle jumper) are so quick.

Thanks for your write up Jay.
I am interested in the Hyosung's results in the nationals (and I stand up to Hyo bashers whole heartedly), can you explain your "battery problems" for me?
Are they the same sort of "battery problems" that plague 600 production bikes, or something different?

So its a bit quicker than the "other" beemer then?

Battery was in the R6 - I havn't yet had the Hyosung on track. Basically, it was the battery that came out in the bike in 2006 and had a couple of years sitting round in the bike before I got hold of it, so it was pretty much old and had it. :) New battery has sorted it.

Jay,
I've got one of them Oxford battery charger / checker / conditioner things if you wanna borrow it?
In a nut shell....
Once it's been connected up to it for awhile, on charge, it checks the State of charge, battery condition and lets you know if the battery is good or weak.
If you want I can loan you the battery out of me duke..... or a sealed 12v battery if you want one for the weekend?
