Am new here, my man has just bought a KLX300 and i'm mucking around on his Suzuki quadrunner. We've been around Red Rocks a few times but the cops have been catching a few poor buggers out lately. Also been riding the Karapoti loop track heaps...
We are going up to Matakona for a long weekend holiday and were wondering if it's worth taking the bikes up??
Cheers

you can ride on the beach, but bikes need to be road legal,
the cops are hitting hard on un legal bikes on the beach.
if your staying up by the matakoina river end. there is the old pac spur road, can go up on to te mai road, you be ok to play around out that way,
there are a few places along the matakoina coast you can get on to the beach at low tide.
with the tide out, you can ride along the bottom of the matakoina hill. its the first hill you go over, can ride a fair way down the beach from there, but sand is very soft..
other than that. not much other than the gravel roads..

a good ride for you to do is the pylon track just south of featherston. is a great trip up, and a few tracks to explore out to the pylons.
