I currently use a excell spreadsheet I got from a friend of a friend, and that works well, but the down sdide it is all manual data entry and was woundering if there is anything out there that anyone would recomend that works in with .csv, .qif, or .tsv type files that I can download from my online banking.

So any one got any recomendations?

Have you had a play with MS Money? I had a play with it as a personal system, but it downloads from the Bank easily.

GnuCash seems to be reasonably well respected, and is free software.

Haven't used it myself for several years.

cashbook complete

This is one of my favourite small business programes. Very easy to use. Has my vote

I have also used MYOB. But this is not a simple programme, unless you are financial and computer minded

Had a play round today with GnuCash today. Its a nice program, good if you are manually entering things. It does talk to the .qif files but takes a lot of organisation after the fact so might keep looking.

Cheers Frosty, I have got some time to kill tomorrow so might head down to the yard.

I have down loaded a trial version of Quicken Personal 2010 so will have a play with that as well, any one got any opinion of the Quicken software?

The Moneyworks family of programs are easy to use and should do the job. Local program - cognito software in Takapuna...works for me.

We use Quicken Quickbooks in business... does what we need I guess, probably don't use it for everything, mostly receiving bills and paying them and managing stock...

It is quite easy to load a .csv or .tsv file into Excell

If you only need simple stuff MYOB Business Basics is fine. Quicken works well but I lijke the older versions better.

MYOB, even the basic business, is alot more involved than a small business may need, and not the easiest to follow. Cashbook complete is my favourite.

Your right it is rather easy, but the challenge is dealing with that information once it is in excel so you get the correct out puts, and the curent spread sheets I am using just dont agree with the format that a .csv file or .tsv file give. I did think of writing my own spreadsheet, but with my skills that would probally take the better part of a year, and I was sure there were better options avaliable.

Things got a bit crazy this week (sister is getting married today) but I have been quite impressed by the Quicken Personal software that I am running a demo of at the moment. I played with Cashbook Complete personal and has a basic inflows outflows ledger it is a good piece of software. But I feel it is more geared towawrds the small business side of things.

I like Quicken Personal because it seems the best to deal with multiple accounts (i.e Cheaque, savings, visa, etc) and it keeps track of my morgage payment and other loans I have like none of the others. Also out of the three I have tried, my bank accounts require the least amoount of formatting when I get it into the programe.

Plan at the moment is that I will run the Quiken software over this trial period and see if it is really what I am after before comitting any money. And I am certinly open to sugestions if there are any other packages I should be looking at.

I have heard of Quicken, and may choose to look into it too should the need arise in future. Good luck
