Pilot Roads are good, Pilot Road 2 are very good, will try some of the new Pirelli Demon ones next ... Battle Axes aren't too bad though! Give Mike a call at Drury tyres and mention you're a KBer and he'll see you right! Doesn't work on Monday though, give him a tootle on Tuesday!
Hmmm souf'sider are you? Always good to have more in the swarm! I'm doing Hornet Swarm rides on Mondays usually (though all makes and models are welcome!) http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/85963-Hornet-Swarm-Night-City?highlight=hornet+night+city

I like my metzelers very much !!!
M1 on the front, Z6 on the back.
I have also been known to run M3's front and back, and M3 front Z6 back

I've got Conti Road Attacks on mine.... I'm not telling how long they've been on there, but lets just say I'm happy with the milage I've got out of them so far and I like the way they feel. :)

There are probably very few truly horrible tyres on the market nowadays and what you use your bike for and how you ride it will also have a bearing. On my Blackbird which has similar geometry to the Hornet, my preference was for Avons, either the Storms or the VP2's for more sporting riding. See the evaluations listed below where I've tried to put some objectivity into evaluating them.

Personally I love Metzelers.
If you are doing lots of touring miles, go for the Z6 Roadtecs.
If you are into more spirited riding out in the twisties on the sunny weekends, go for the M1 Sportecs, M3 if you want to throw a bit more money at even better tyres... Oh, and they work very well in the wet too....
Then if you are Heading down to Hampton Downs every weekend, go for the Racetecs.... Although, as you are actually asking about tyres, I guess you aren't at the level to use them properly. Please don't be offended by this...
If you didn't really have a problem with the Battle-axes, then is there a need to change for changes sake?
One thing i love about the Metzilers is they are quick to warm up..... Real trwtchy on pea gravel though.. Radials always tend to be though.
*Note: Some people may well disagree with the comments I have made. Then they don't ride a 92 CBR 600F and weigh 90kg, with MY suspension settings.... and my throttle and brake control.
In other words, they work well for me.... Buit there was this one time at band camp..... ;)

I used Z6s on my Hornet after ditching the Bridgestones, because after trying the OE and the 020s I wasn't happy with the Bridgestones in the wet. I found the Z6s better, particularly in winter.
There might be an updated version of the Z6 available now, the Z6 Interact.
There is also the ME Z4 but I've never read a good comment about them.
Whatever you buy, I'd suggest you buy a pair. It can be news hereabout, but the major manufacturers generally know their business. That's why they're major...

My favourite on the hornet has to be the Pilot Road 2's. Pirella Diablo Stradas are fine too, and I would imagine the Pirelli Angels would be perfectly fine as well.

A sports touring tyre would be best for a Hornet. Avon Storms or Pirelli Angels would be good choices.

Metzeler Z4 or Z6, Avon Storm, Pirelli Diablo, Continental Road Attack, Michelin Pilot Road are all excellent tyres for this model. You will be happy with any of these. Go for the shop that will give you the best deal on any of this selection.
