Doing first oil change on my new bike

I've done plenty of oil changes before on cars. And its not really a new bike its a 07 gsxr1000 and ive just clocked up about 4000kms since its oil change before i got the bike.

Manual recommends a 10-40 oil.

Anyway im after what sort of good oil to use and where to buy from.

And whether a genuine suzuki filter is the best option for the filter?

Genuine filters are the way to go but there are other top brands like HIFLO etc that are as good if not better . Plenty of top brand oils up to you which & how much you want to spend .

that castrol 4T seems to be alright and got easily from supercheap in a 4 litre pack, i also managed to get a hi-flo filter for my bike off the shelf at supercheap as well for $11.

Is that oil any good? If oils are within same prices as car oils i wouldnt mind spending $50-$60 on a fully synthetic oil for my bike if thats possible?

Your better off getting a fully synthetic oil as opposed to a mineral oil, but beware some synthetic oils are not synthetic (hello Castrol) at all but highly refined mineral. Synthetic comes from PAO poly Alpha oleyfins which is essentially gas base stocks.....................this base stock enables all the benefits of a synthetic ie less friction lower op temperatures etc etc etc, it is now legal to call oils synthetic when its not so beware.

As the bike's out of warranty now you really can choose any filter you want, my preference is still for genuine...

As for oil - ask 100 different people and get 100 different answers...I'm currently using Elf Moto 4hp eco (Synthetic fortified - see above post).

I would be inclined to use a genuine filter. And go for a 10w40 oil with JASO MA 2 approval

seems ok, i notice that at about the 4k mark the gearbox gets a bit notchy during shifts which reminds to change the oil at 5k, i got the last 4 litre pack at $35 xmas special,
