View Full Version : bye bye zxr
Bought my ZXR250C on Feb 12.
In my opinion it was in pretty mint condition compared to some other 250s I saw at the time.
On April 22nd a lady pulled into my lane and took me out.
The damage wasn't that great as it was low speed but the front fairing was completely smashed, side/rear fairings scratched, mirrors, indicators but I just got a call from the insurance company telling me the bike has been written off.
Now I have a few problems;
I have no way to get to uni and work cause the bus drivers are going on strike for 6days
I just paid $250 for registration 2 weeks ago, can I get this money back
I want to get a zxr or cbr but there are no nice ones in the market at the moment, even though about a nsr but i heard 2stroke cost too much to maintain
Here is the only photo I have of the zxr as my laptop was stolen along with all my other photos

Serious bummer dude. Sorery to hear that. And no - you can't get your rego money back: once the Govt and ACC get it, it's gone for "good" (or evil, in their case) - they're constantly in arrears to their dealers so your money goes out the moment they rake it in...

That wasn't true at the end of last year. I took my MB100 off the road when I sold it, returned the plate and received the balance of the registration back.
Suney, your description of the damage sounds mainly superficial. You as the owner have first option on buying the wreck from the insurance company at the highest bid. It could be a good deal if you can get it going relatively cheaply. Could be a good commuter, you could get some aftermarket fairings, maybe. Just a thought.
That sounds good speedpro! I hope I get that money back.
Oh and I forgot to mention that the front suspension was bent hehe
I'm not really person who knows to fix bikes or have the time too.
Bought my ZXR250C on Feb 12...On April 22nd a lady pulled into my lane and took me out.Sorry to hear this man, I cringe when I read about you guys having accidents only after owning your bike for a short period - 9 weeks just isn't long enough!

If you have the cash to spend (insurance payout) you should be able to find something nice quite quickly! Just have to work a bit harder to find it - check out www.trademe.co.nz (http://www.trademe.co.nz/), www.te.co.nz (http://www.te.co.nz/), and www.bikepoint.co.nz (http://www.bikepoint.co.nz/) and do some ringing around. Ask White Trash nicely if he can find one for you. It's a buyers market out there bud!

:no:Looked nice while it lasted...you've had a bad run havn't you, and none of it has seemed to be your fault!
Bummer dude!
Same thing happened to me last year. Id had my CBR about 6 months i think when young dude pulled out across my path towing a trailer. Damage looked minimal, but insurance paid out more then I would have sold it for so I was a bit stoked.

i'm looking at a zxr400, are they good bikes? it's this one here:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Motorbikes/Sports-tourer/auction-26666797.htm
and is that a good price?
If you take the plates off, and fill out the paperwork, you will get at least SOME of the $$$ back.
When my first Gn250 got written off, the bikeshop told me that my insruance company would deregister it (and keep the $$$), I said fuck that, deregistered it myself and got $161 back out of my rego.

do the zxr400's have a nice sportsbikey sound? i've actually fallen in love with that zxr400 all i need to do now is save up the money for it
I'm very sorry to hear that they do look very nice naked if you would consider that?
I'd look at buying it back and shoving a new front end on it if you cant get the forks straightend! Could be an option if you do that I will be ready and willing to give you a hand!
Sorry to hear about your series of missfortune! I would just go try pick up a cheap 4stroke keep away from the 2smokes they are to much trouble for beginners.
Take care.

if insurance company pay out it is their bike and they might well claim the rego money back so you still dont get it.
If you buy it back after they have written it off it willhave to be recomplyed as anew vehicle regoed from scratch etc.
