Why would a bike with only 17,000k on it need a top end rebuild?

Dirt bikes I thought tended to be serviced on hours ridden, not km's, as they have more variable load work and more strain on the engine then lets say riding down tarmac. Therefor they probably did a top end rebuild after so many hours... or 10k km. tbh I can't imagine putting 17000km on a dirtbike, it's a fair bit of riding.

It's a road legal dirtbike/dual purpose bike so it probably doesn't have an hour meter on it. It might be that it needs a new top end every 5000km, or every 10,000km.

I'm sure my son said his bike needed maintenance every 15-20 hours on it. He does have a hour meter on it. Even on the road and dirt, 17,000 km would be a fair bit of riding.....

Then again, a lot of people disconnect and remove their instruments and lights when going offroad not to break them so it's also possible that those 17000kms are only the tarmac kms done by the bike. All the offroad usage was not registered on the instruments, they being disconnected.

well its not a race bike so doesn't really need a rebuild every x number of hours, chances are if the owner had a rebuild done on it it needed one (10 years off road use would probly do that!), tis nothing to worry about imo.
