Yet another reason to burn any labour leftie on siight - they are talking about the concept linking fines to your wage packet.
Forget that you might have a HUGE fucken mortgage, or money invested in busineses - 1/2 the "rich pricks" I know have very little cash at the end of the month as they reinvest it all (and employ people - add to the value of NZ inc).
http://blog.labour.org.nz/index.php/2010/01/13/heres-an-idea-bigger-fines-for-richer-people/
Next thing they will have speeding discount vouchers available at WINS for the fucken wasters.

Soooo the dole and benefit bludgers get a fear a massive $20 fine for doing double the speed limit?
Sounds about right for NZ...

Bit extreme isnt it
Demerit points still would apply? and loss of licence for 40 KPH over the limit
the issue is that those on low incomes or benefits would still do what they do now and have them written off for community service or PD etc
yet the people who make a significant tax contributions will be expected to pay.
the article atually only mentions that judges can do it so wouldnt apply to Instant fines. Dont see a problem with this if it is for serious repeat offenders

Fines for the rich is overrated.

Wouldn't this be classed as discrimination against us clever cunts!

I personally like NZ's new strategy - to move away from fines and towards demerit points.
Demerit points have equal consequence to all. The odd speeding ticket is no big deal, but if you repeatedly offend you simply loose your licence.
And it also removes the PR stigma of Police Officers being revenue collectors.

What an absolutley ridiculous idea!!!!!
Discrimination - again
Moral of the story......don't do anything naughty on the roads so you won't get any fines.
.......never ever must you travel over the speed limit.

now that really sucks, so once again if you work hard, get qualified in your field, you are going to get the shit kicked out of you. This does not sound like a vote winner (except if your not working) but what do you expect from the Left

I've already got fines linked to my pay.. $50 a week !
If I was a fuckwit loser bum like my old flatmate, I'd just not have a job, then spend my dole money on weed, get my fines written off for community service, then go to it late, then come home early "cause I'm pretty tired bro", and still get my 8 hours a day written off.

If this "fined according to means idea" caught on, does that mean the Government would be paying the fines for beneficiaries?
Oh hang on, they're doing that already...

But that means we're fucked right? With what is effectively a two-party system and the alternative being those cunts from national there is no clear way forward. Democrazy vs. democracy.

Yes but the courts need to start handing out proper sentinces and stick to them.
it is because we have such a crap justice system where no one goes to jail or is really punished.
when i lost my licence (28 days) didn't drive becuse i had something to loose, all these tossers on the dole don't, thats why they run up huge fines.
they constinly drive with no reg, wof, licence and they don't give a monkeys.
it makes a complete farce out of the whole system.
when there is a deterint then things will start to change untill then f*** all will happen other than those who can pay will get hit hard as is the case now.

It wouldn't fly. Labour is thick but not that thick. If they fine the rich people more no one would pay for their campaigns.
It's just a dumb office back bencher schmuck sharing his/her unthoughtout opinion. Will never happen. If it does, I'll shag Jessica Alba...
I do see the logic because the rich just go "what's $300? I earn that in 20 mins". But they forget that the rich (that aren't dodgy and hand-me-down-rich) work their fucken asses off to get their. They bloody deserve the Ferrari and Porsches.

So no more demerit points and we can pay to speed? That would be cool. The poor people would have to obey the posted limits or have their car reposessed where the wealthy could just get a Direct Debit linked to the Police account and their number plate. They wouldn't even need to stop for each ping if they were paid up to date.

selling weed is a job, you get income (non-taxable), community service and you'd make contacts for your work. what an awesome life. Yeah, quit your job.
$50......that's a fair whack a week.
What you get from that, the satisfaction of knowing you're not a loser but a worthwhile member of society. Well done.

I suppose that we'll be seeing ACC increases based on weight, significant ACC increases on booze and fags, people paying police costs when arrested regardless of guilt, pedestrians charged per km for pavement wear and tear etc etc etc
what a fucking joke!!

It wouldn't work in NZ.
With the amount of "Family Trusts" about the place, there are a lot of people who are "earning nothing" each year.
With what is effectively a two-party system ... Democrazy vs. democracy.
Welcome to NZ when the FPP (First Past the Post) voting system was in place. It was either Labour or National... Both as bad as each other with reactionary policies.

Ummm some of you seem prematurely agitated. There was a recent news item about a Ferarri driver in Switzerland(?) who was fined
a huge amount because he was wealthy, and because that's the local rules.
This is nothing to do with Labour, National, the Greens, or even Winson Peters. Unless you're heading to Europe it need not bother you much either.
Of course there's always the chance that one of our more flakey MPs might feel the idea has merit. That's extremely unlikely though, because they get more money than most and they aren't in the habit of passing laws that prejudice their own interests...

Well, pritch, you beat me to it. I was about to point out that the law exists in some Scandanavian countries. I think your point about politicians' own interests is extremely salient. They are definitely well above the average NZ wage.

yeah, it was Switzerland and the fine was quater of a million, I think that was in euros but I read it on a UK site so could have been pounds, either way it's a huge fine!
