Ive just made a race shift for my cbr as my krr150 has one and its confusing to have them different ,

Anyone else got race shift on their bucket?, does it give you an advantage?

I took Henks FXR out with race shift and it was a wee bit confusing for a road rider :p
Means you can change up a gear in a corner if you need to, so yes I would say better. I would say most comes down to personal preference.

This seems to be the ongoing debate here. I can see the point in it, however peronally I'm not changing to race pattern until I give up road riding for good. The last thing I need is to come up to a corner on my road bike and change down when I need to change up...... or vice versa! Personal preferance I think, if you don't ride any other bikes that have road gearing, I would change, or maybe your brain is fast and adjusts quickly to things like that, mine isn't, I'm a creature of habit, and I would prefer when the shit hits the fan that my automatic reactions do the right thing.... down for down, up for up.... :lol:

Totally agree on the whole road bike thing :p I had a few interesting moments on the bike with race shift.

Race all the way I have normal on the mighty drz and race on the bucket I can jump off one straight onto the other with ease

i can too but, ive made my footpegs higher on the cbr and the system for the gear lever is too hard to copy, so making a race shift is much easyer.

ill post up some picts some of it soon, it's pretty bucket looking....lol

I've used both and use road,personal choice I've never seen much of an advantage either way

Yep better, for Mt wellington in the anti clockwise direction anyway. Have standard shift on road and dirt bikes and have no trouble adjusting. If anything race feels a little more natural.

yer once i got the hang of race shift it feels even more natural....., my foot pegs have been raised about 7cm, so i cant wait to take it out on the track,

Im putting a racing exhaust on it now, as ill need it for A-Grade.

I think you will find that both of the South Island bikes that ran at TTRS were running road pattern, didn't seem to slow them down to much:msn-wink:

Bah! "Race Shift" Down to change up is natural, it should be that way on all bikes, the Poms had it sorted with their old bikes!

I thought when this thread said "race shift" it meant the full throttle-no clutch-change gear- ignition kills for a split second, but just means race-pattern...

when i had my bucket it had road pattern and i had no problem going from race pattern on the rg to that.

Might be relevant on big fat 4 cylinder based 250s with lower 17s fitted, but not on most buckets.

Dave, did you see this http://www.fxr150.co.nz/discussion/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=229 Looks like someone might know what they are doing. We looked at the RS chassis for the KE, a shit load of mods as the spars are really close together and getting the sprockets to line up looked like a real bitch. I will be very interested to see how it turns out. We have some substantial mods planned for mine. Have been sniffing around for motor/chassis bits and pieces with some success.

No I hadn't seen the post, but I had conversed with Bren & knew he was up to this as he bought Peter's KV. I do wonder about the RS chassis with discvalve engine. - Just the RS is another 2" shorter than most bikes. Still with a compact carb setup like you have it should be ok. Just I wouldn't want to hang an old skool 32 out there.

Just taken 6kg's off the bike today, ive taken off headlights, rear light, standard muffler, bracket.

The bike is LOUD now, has some serious grunt, i can now say its up there in power with my old FXR.

The bike now weigh's 112kg which is getting better from the origional weight of 127kg.....

You get used too swapping between them.

Sereval GP riders use road shift. No real advantage.

Thats the problem, you'd be faster ifyou were fatter, more weight will increase the contact patch of the tyres, help the suspension work in the right part of its stroke and hold the bike down harder over the bumps at Mt Welly. EAT MORE PIES

.......well your deffinitly the only person to harness the mighty senke's racing capabilities

I sure as hell coudnt, i ran it so wide i almost ended up in the vineyard next door.
