I have some business to do in the South Island next week and for once I don't need a car load of gear, just me and my laptop (and I may not even take that, just use a pen and paper; a concept which some of the younger members on here may not be familiar with...) so have decided to trundle down on the Speedy Four instead.
Christchurch is sorted with my usual hotel but I need accommodation in Hanmer Springs and Greymouth. Any bike friendly suggestions?

The last time I was in Hammer Springs on my Beemer I stayed at The Pine Holiday park in a unit. I had all my gear and wanted to keep an eye on my bike. Really nice people run it and of course it was very reasonable. I am intending to stay there on our "world tour of NZ II " next month. hope this helps.

Robert,

+1 for the Pine Holiday Park, they are good people. Regarding Greymouth, we stayed at the Greymouth Top 10 which is right by the water just south of town (http://www.top10greymouth.co.nz/) and it was fine. Of course, the Blackball Hilton is only ~25 km north east of Greymouth. An iconic bike pub if ever there was one.

Long time no see!

A bit more south than I think you're thinking of going but...

My Father has the pub in Oturehua, you'll have to ring and book, it's $45pp with breakfast included, they do a damn good dinner and even better coffee's!

If you go, say Sam sent you!
