What can ya say, the track costs more to hire yada yada yada...........

$260 for a weekends racing is still cheaper than 200 for a single track day. And ya get to hang out with some truly accomplished riders rather than track day heroes....... :D

You got that wrong there Shaun, as Round 4 is $180.00 for Non Vic Club Members and $130.00 for Vic Club Members and our entry fees for this years Nationals is much cheaper than last year so therefore we are hoping to see alot more Racers out on the track competing. I look forward to receiving your Entries before February 5th. After the 5th you will be hit with a $50.00 late Entry Fee so get those Entries in NOW.

Actually its $290. Last year at Pukekohe was $250. Not nearly as high I thought it could have been when you consider a trackday costs $199 for one day.

To get the same return they would have got if they'd spent that much money on commercial rental properties they would need to charge each entrant about 8 grand.
Its a bargain if you look at it like that.
We are honoured to have people build such a facility for our pleasure.

Stop being a drama queen, $260 isn't that bad, I don't see the problem really. This is a brand new track, they have to pay the bills somehow. In all honesty I think it's pretty good value, I was anticipating a $300+ entry.

Edit: I just found it's actually $290 and looking back Puke last year was $250. A $40 increase is nothing, the two tracks don't even compare.

Anyone know if there will be power available by then? Even if its from a big genny or will we have to provide our own?

hmmm

290 entry
100 friday
4 tanks of diesel x 65 bucks a pop = 260
food/accom/fuel and stuff - 300 bucks
ferry - 320 bucks

grand total to be a f3 back marker at the TT for the weekend- $1270
excluding tyres for the round.

people wonder why the grids are small sometimes??? Judging from alot the club racers i get round with 160 was more than they could part with at the gp.

That being said i should be there. such is life. stupid hobby.

Talking to Darren Sweetman (Hampton Ride Days) in Dec, I wouldn't count on it. Best bring your own everything !

Fortunately for me my old dunga is Pre '89 which is a support class and only $150 so I'll enter that instead of F3:bleh:

Swap ya ! Moneys' not the problem, the old body is.
Make the most of it bud, while you can.

But yes, I wonder how long before people start losing interest in paying 200 bucks just to ride around a racetrack.
Give me CDMCC trackdays at Manfeild 50 bucks, bargain. Gaz.

290 bucks for entry fee is fricken excessive for what we get no prize money in return etc

I sopose it depends on how you see things bang for buck wise--its a new track so has some $ value on that front alone.
Also compare it track time wise to a race meeting

Having spent the day at Hampton Downs yesterday for the Festival of Motor Sport, it is an awesome track and is unlike any other circuit in the country. It also offers some very good spectator viewing points and you are closer to the action than at any other circuit.

If you want prize money, I doubt that the organisers would mind you going out and raising it. I reckon it'd be easier to get sponsors for the race, than it is for riders.

There is a $5000.00 levy the clubs pay MNZ each round that was originaly allocated as prize money,But MNZ now use that money to buy television time

Sounds about the same as racing in a triathalon on public (not closed) roads - I'd hate to think how much it would cost to race on a closed circuit. At the moment we are easily spending $500 in a weekend's racing, $2000-$3000 for Ironman week.

Don't get me started on how much it costs to compete in a weekend of aerobatics cometition!

It's motorcycle racing, on a brand new closed road/track, with medical and other support there. Most importantly, there's no frenchmen driving the wrong way around the track.

Yeah, I was there too. Although it's still very much work in progress, it is a great facility. Not PI, but not too far away.

OK, I'm not likely to be paying any entry fee, but I have to say, if ya want these sorta facilities you pay what it costs. There's no free lunches and even if you doubled those entry fees, I can't see the developers getting an acceptable return on their considerable investment any time soon.

Yes they do, but normally only for some classes at some rounds

An organised individual could, if so inclined set up as a sole trader, as an event promoter. Go get sponsorship for races and make a profit from it too. One might even wangle commission from the clubs if they dragged punters along and filled the seats.

Kick.
I have been to every circuit in the country, and have watched and ridden at the three South island circuits. It is very easy to get close to the action at Hampton Downs.
While the pit facilities are yet to be built, the basic infrastructure at the circuit is pretty good. Access by tunnel to the pits for competitors, access to the inside area of the circuit by tunnel for spectators. Interesting undulating layout. It is most definitely different to any other circuit in the country.
Good on the guys (and thanks very much to them) funding and building place.

Don't know if any of you saw the interview yesterday morning on the 6.30am business news programme.
Roberts? was saying it had so far cost them $60 million and at the end would cost $100 million.
Expecting to have it viable (don't think it was profitable, but could be wrong) in about 2 years.
This is including the business park, so it's not that they're expecting the track to have paid itself off by then (no way in hell would $300 per rider have paid that sum of money off in such a short time).
Was on TV3, about 10 minutes into the programme, from memory.

We just booked a couple of apartments for the nats, 2 bedroom apartments with all day use only $220 per night is pretty good i think. It would be great to invite your sponsors etc up sorta like a corporate box to watch from during the day

There is good news, I was talking to the race secretary from the AMCC and she advised me the Friday practise day before the Nats at HD is only $80.00, Thats good.

Yep, it is different thanks to the undulating layout but I'm not sure it's a masterpiece, especially the shorter version we're using at the moment, but hopefully the "international" track flows a bit better....and it isn't priced out of reach. Viewing is lousy for spectators: sure you can get some nice views of certain portions but it's going to be frustrating as fuck watching and waiting and waiting and waiting until they come 'round again 'cos you've got no idea what's going on anywhere else. Horses for courses I guess, it'll give some nice shots for TV but won't be so good for those actually trackside.

Someone also pointed out to me that the start finish line is going to be in the braking area (big bikes) for turn 1, which if it's true, could make for an interesting finish to the last race of the championship...or any race for that matter. Anyone else noticed this? With all the timing gear it's not as easy as just painting another line on the track.

The cost of the entry is bugger all compared to the cost created by the timing of the North Island rounds. If I was a Southerner I'd be spitting chips at having to travel and cross that fuggin' ditch twice in a month....poor bastards.

Hey, i guess the start line wasn't there when you were there last but after watching the braking points during the Ride Days and superbike schools the bikes will be over the line before having to brake. I was wondering about it myself untill I actually saw it. Wonder what the classics will be like though when they're on in a few weeks!

As for viewing, I was there for the McLaren festival as well and could see *enough*. From the bank near pit entrance you can see T8, T9, T10 and the start of the front straight. From the inside of T2, you can get T2, T7 (What you'd probably call T3 on the short circuit) and the entrance to T8 (T4 on short circuit).

Choppa you'll be glad you got an apartment, they're very comfortable and well furnished. Have stayed there many times now.
