Does anyone have cutom levers for their road / race bike. the type that snap off in the event of a spill and leave a useable small lever behind. i have seen some that are designed to snap half way down and leave a stub so u can still use the lever but only seen them in uk
anyone buy any here in nz? if so, how mucho dorras?

Sounds like stock Suzuki levers to me. Pre-weakened at the 3/4 length mark for that very reason.

the ones i have seen are definetly not stock
they have what looks like a small ball around 1/3 way up the lever, the rest of the lever is designed to snap off, leaving the smaller stumpy bit

Aren't the double-jointed ones better? The ones that are meant to bend backwards all the way in case of a spill? If it works the way they say it should, they wouldn't break at all and you wouldn't have to replace them.
As for breaking half way, all the levers that I've ever broken (honda and kawasaki) have snapped half way through leaving a stump long enough to operate with two fingers.

Look for Pazzo and CRG levers. There's also ASV etc, just pick the ones you like. If you channel the back side of your current levers about an inch in from the end, that will provide a weak point for the stock levers to break off... Suzuki (at least) do this from the factory these days.

I've just fitted Pazzo levers to my ZX14 although they are'nt "double jointed" they are the "long" version therefore they have a "wasted" section at the 3/4 length of the levers. Lovely kit but truth be know they are just blingage and don't really work any better the originals given their intended purpose.

My new CRG levers are winging their way to me as I write.
CRG offer a jointed lever option but you'd really want to find those on "special", be independently wealthy, or have just sold the family farm.
Normal retail US$140 each lever but on special now at http://www.hardracing.com/CRG.htm Scroll down to "folding" levers

ASV are the "high end lever" and are "unbreakable". They actually guarantee it. You break 'em in a crash they replace them free but you pay for the privilege in more than just money. They're designed to bend back.

I had short pazzo's on the daytona and am putting them on the new one. My bike was written off and the levers only got a scratch from my boot. If I had long ones they would have been toast.

Some of the distributors for ASV are unbelievably crap. You order a pair and ASV will send you one. They're are nicely made and I was originally going to get a set but after 7 months from my order and they STILL hadn't arrived, I went with Pazzo's instead. And saved $50 in the process.
Kiwi land you're looking at around $400+ for blink levers (very small market). Shipping from the states you'll see them for around $250. Pazzo's are the cheapest by around $50, CRG and ASV are similar money.
They are expensive bling but I loved my gold ones :) I just dunno if they're gonna suit the new bike. I may get them powder coated to another colour or something.

I put a pair of Gold short Pazzio's on my monster....very happy with them....imported them from www.carpimoto.com in Italy. I have bought quite a bit from them and get a good fast reliable service.
The other brand to check out is Rizzoma....www.rizzoma.com and buy through carpimoto

My hornet had the little slits that would prevent the whole lever from coming off also.
It's had CRG levers for almost a year now, love them.

Yeah thought about that, glad I went with the long Pazzo's though otherwise i'd be using the "ball" end of the lever when using the brake and clutch due to their position on the bars and that'd piss me off no end and when it comes down to it if I throw it down the road the levers are low on my "things to be worried about" list...

haha yeah. I didn't really give a shit when flying through the air. I was more thinking, "bugger me". I've mountain biked and bmxed all my life so used to the shorties. Just took a little arranging to get them in the right spot. I was "using" the ball and it did piss me off, but sorted the position in the end.

I used to supply Pazzo levers and although they are very good and sold well they are not as good as some, I now supply the levers that "Rapid Van cleef" is talking about they are double jointed and will bend up or down on where on the lever the impact occurs then snap back into place, they have proper bearing joints unlike Pazzo and are overall a better quality lever, they come with a lifetime warranty for racing but guys still fit them to their road bikes, very similar design to Pazzo's and CRG and similar colour range combinations (approx colour 2000 variations) trouble is due to the high quality they are made to order and can take a while to ship.
Ride safe guys
