Uhm, go back in time, make a copy of the old key, then use it. Give yourself a smack upside the head for good measure.

I want to go home.

Take the bike to the shop that sells them, for a stat or ph round some bike wreckers for new ignition, can find them quite cheap and fast and they are piss easy to install yourself. If u buy a new ignition it will cost a bit. :niceone:

or if you were smart and the key was original, most have a number stamped on them, if you know this number most locksmiths can cut a new one without needing the key just the number!
Have done this before when i lost a set of keys for my 83 nissan sunny, rung dad he stopped in at the locksmith on the way home to see if they could come break in to it, bout 5 mins later he rings and asks if i know the number, well yip I did, five bucks later and I had two new keys!!

Is there a number stamped anywhere on the ignition barrel? If there is, call a Chubb locksmith, explain what happened, that you've got a number off the barrel, what make bike it is & ask if they can help.

Or call your local dealer & ask them for advice.

Sometimes the key number can be found in the ignition barrel itself. We once had a scooter which its keys had gone missing, the locksmith had the ignition apart in about 30 mins, had got the number and made a new key. Cost about $30 but the girlfriend was giving him the glad eye the whole time.

I would suggest going and talking to them (try glad eye as well :niceone: )

Yea i agree with Jonty. try looking on the ignition barrel for a number. i did exactly the same thing when i first got my bike. i have since learnt my lesson and got copies. try asking a motorcycle dealer (if you know one personally) to come over with some keys.

often old bikes can be opened by dozens of other keys. just make sure it fits both the ignition and the tank. that was my solution. im not sure in your situation though.

Have a look in the fairing.... you may be REALLY lucky.
Once I found my key stuck on a cable halfway down, in side the fairing. (was just about to disconnect the battery to stop it going flat.)

(oh, and my house key was on the keyring so I wouldn't have been able get my spare set until the flatmate came home)

Either take the bike or just the ignition to a lock smith and they can cut you a new key to suit. No need for a new barrel or anything like that.
Will probably cost round $100 or so. At a guess that is.
Good luck!

well you see, i had a one key for ignition and one for seat and tank, and one key for the breakdisc lock all in the pouch. So i am guessing i will need 2 key made (make that 2 of each  ) and new disc-lock.
Starting the bike is not an option now, so i will have to take ignition out and go to a locksmith. Do all of them do this kind of stuff or is it just some?
And if so does anyone know where in wellington region (pref. hutt) i can go to get this done... am desperate, i like my car but i miss my bike already

I think we take ours to Chubbs. On Jackson st in Petone.

Would pay to ring them first just in case.
Could be expensive prosedure though.

funny this thread should appear....
after the KB trackday i did the same silly thing.
heres a few ideas for ya...

1/ take the ignition barrel out and take it to a locksmith. but be warned my bike had shear bolts, the kinda stuff thats designed to snap off when released. so check it out, its no drama you just might have a hard time trying to remove then replace them.

2/ take out the lock in the fuel cap, assuming that you have the same key for everything and take it to a locksmith.

3/ take out the helmet lock and it sometimes has it stamped on the inside of it and take it to a locksmith.

4/ (this is what i did) get a mobile locksmith to come round and get him too worry about it. most expensive, but least worry and effort on your behalf.

to get a key cut from a number your looking at 15-30$ or if you want someone to come round i paid 100$ (but in my bikes case it was worth it considering what was required to remove my ignition)

Try beverages (sp??) locksmiths, they are hutt based and mobile. a couple of blocks over by the mill wholesaler... i forget now, its been a while since i was in mordoor.

Good Luck!! :ride:

Oh no! I know exactly how you feel but I dropped my keys and they were never found. That makes the expert in what to do and what NOT to do in the case of having no spare.

You need to remove the igntion barrel and hopefully it will have the key number on it, then call a locksmith and they can cut you new keys - it's not cheap but it works!

If they cannot do it , they'll be able to send it away to someone who can.
Similar thing happened to a friend, now he has separate keys for the boot, ignition and petrol cap (v annoying)

the bad thing was that the the ignition key was not in there as it flew off when it hit the ground. But i knew that it was somewhere between gf place and the motorway (maybe 200m of road) so went down and searched...and wouldnt you know it I FOUND IT

Once you get the new keys, take every chance possible to STOP them falling out of the ignitions. Try superglue

And don't bother with the places in shopping malls. I tried going to one in Botany, and he told me they don't do motorbikes (possibly because of a demand issue...), and I should try a locksmith.

So now sometime during the week, its off to find a locksmith. Its scaring me, the master key was twisted when I got it, straightened it, and after an afternoon of testing the bike it looks like its getting twisted again.

I have no spares yet either...

Try losing your Honda keys with the H.I.S.S. security key chip. Apparently it's about $4,000 to fix - and there is NO alternative

Jeez 250learna, you are one lucky bloke!!

Perhaps all those who don't have spare keys should take this as a lesson and get some spares cut - might take a few minutes and a couple of $$$ but worth every moment/cent.

My keys have a chip in them so I can't get new ones cut from a normal locksmith. I got three keys with each of my bikes. Two "normal" keys, and one has the "master" chip in it which can be programmed into a "blank" Ducati key, so those two (one for each bike) are safely locked away.
