I need to get some Avgas for my race bike, but I don't have a race licence. I've heard that the Waimak Challenge sell it. Is that true and will they want to see a race licence? Does any one know where I can get it without a licence?

I would have thought you could take a 20L container out to the local friendly aero club and they'd sell you some. It's all money in the bank for them.

You dont need a race licence to buy Avgas, you simply sign a bit of paper when picking up your 20litre container.

Its worth a shot I guess. I was under the impression the stuff was hard to get without a race licence though

Yes, generally sold into the container, or the bike will neeed to be on a trailer.

Yes you can get it from the waimak servo only in container. But it is not as fresh as the aero club or Helicopter place.
Again they only fill containers.

waimak challenge just fill ya jerry can and pay the money, no hassles . Good turn over and tank filled ex avgas tanker every 2-3 weeks . There are other options , but not really worth phone calls or hassle

. probably gets more regular loads, than a 50k site tank or a mobile heli tank.

Do you guys think that avgas would do my forged SR20DET any harm?

To dispel any doubts why not pour the stuff all over it and throw a match.

Do you guys think that avgas would do my forged SR20DET any harm?I am told that avgas is very hard on engines, and proper race fuel is the best. (local long-time stock car bloke.)

Young uns drive em,bit like peddle cars.Few years back i had an R32 Godzilla, owned it for about 6 years and as far as cars go best bang for $ you could buy.The downside was everytime you filled it up with gas you got approached by some delinquent with a baseball cap on backwards and bad acne that began the conversation with "chur bro" followed by some weird foot shuffling shit.Pity really as it really was a keeper.

Says he with a Japanese version of an American icon lol. I take it that was tongue-in-cheek.
From what I've heard av-gas is designed primarily to work at a constant rpm and higher altitude, therefore not making it ideal for motor vehicle use (although it does have a higher octane rating so will allow more tweaking than normal pump fuel. Track down some C16 race fuel, that's the shit you want. Maybe.

Not in everyday conversation for the general public. Which unless you are employed in the aviation industry includes the both of us.

it is illegal to sell avgas for road use...it is leaded petrol...beware those with catalytic converters. Competition use yes, general road use, no...hence why you have to take the container to the servo...or fill the race bike while it is sitting on a trailer.

Or simply buy it in a 20 litre container.

Its cheaper if you bring your own tim. The fuel companies will sell race gas and methanol racing fuel in 20 litre tins but its darn expensive.
Race gas and av gas is the same thing. Leaded 100 octane petrol.

Race gas and av gas is the same thing. Leaded 100 octane petrol. No, not necessarily. Yes, Av Gas is 100 octane leaded petrol and yes this can be used as race fuel. But race fuel (http://www.elfracing.com/Lub/lubRoot.nsf/VS_OPM/3854CF264CDCC2F9C1257053003794E9?OpenDocument) isn't necessarily Av Gas, it can be a number things, some containing petrol and some not.
