What accessories do bikers nearly always buy for their bikes and what are the most desired items ?

Well.

When I bought my bike it already had an aftermarket can on it, braided lines front and back, rear sets crash bungs.

I have since fitted(with the help of a fellow K'biker) an alarm and immobiliser

Next thing will probably be a steering damper, oh and definetly bobbins for a rear stand which a friend of mine has built for me

future possibilities in no particular order....gear indicator, fancy levers, scott oiler

crash bungs and exhausts is my guess...

Exhaust shorty, to allow for saddle bags...Saddle bag luggage.....Lots of 3M clear protection......Radar detector....short levers(I like two fingers on grip and two on lever and not squash fingers when squeezing lever)....+90 hella globe......rear hugger to protect rear suspension.....Big bar end mirrors for better rear vision(without tucking my elbows in).....Tank Bag....Slipper clutch for those over a rise turn to the right all while braking hard and aggressive down shift moments (Gulliver bridge, Milford)....super bright LED indicators (so there is no mistaking what my intentions are)....LOUD horn.

Next comes the comfort type things, Gel seat, slightly raised bars, rearsets and ....dare I say it on such a testosterone fueled site.....Heated grips.

GPS and a tail bag fits in there some where.....

After the "Form follows function" comes the semi or full on bling type stuff....Belly pan, CF chain guard, tail tidy, fancy clutch cover, prettier clutch resovoirs, CF rear mudguard, and personalized plates.

Best advice I could give?.....DO NOT....under any circumstances, enter the make, model size and year of your bike into your search engine along with the word "ACCESSORIES"

I guess we all like accessories, but in the future for me at least, it'll be suspension first and blingy bits second. By a long shot, the most worthwhile coin I've spent so far:yes:

Would you really call tyres an accessory? More like a necessity.

First thing I did was change the bars to get a more comfortable riding position. Second was to change the front pegs to go with the first thing. Next I binned the ugly indicators, replaced them with brighter but smaller LED units and got some better mirrors with slightly convex lenses, which give far superior rear view. Over winter I think I'll be looking at suspension components. Having said that I'm not so sure springs and shocks come under the banner of 'accessories'.

Always function, only function.
Pretty bits are for fags and honda riders.
Rim tape anyone?

I've only accessorised the last three bikes.

On all three: Ohlins shock , radar detector, luggage.
On two: aftermarket cans, CRG levers, heated grips, aftermarket horn.
On one: Racetech gold valves, Sato Racing bungs, PCIII, Scott Oiler, carbon fibre hugger, GPS.

I long lusted after braided brake cables but the LTSA and their WoF testers were having one of their periodic beaurocratic bungles and I couldn't be bothered jumping through their misplaced hoops. The current bike has them as OE so that's one expense spared... Maybe I can use that money for something else? Like rim tape? :devil2:

Oh, and while the moped has no accessories, it is covered in the various stickers that came with the above listed items.

Need to win lotto to continue...

From what I've noticed...

For the bike:
Tank pads
Fender eliminators
Double bubble windscreens
Noisy exhaust
Frame sliders/oggy knobs/crash bungs
Huggers
Radar
Anything that's made from carbon or looks like it's made from carbon
Most desirable IMO: Ohlins

For the Rider:
Tinted or Iridium Visors
Helmet with flash graphics
Leather Jacket
Kevlar Jeans
2 piece leather suits
Most desirable IMO: Leather suits (a 1 piece and a 2 piece) followed closely by back protector

Things I no longer see very often, thankfully:
Stick on helmet Mohawk
Rim tape
Race stickers (unless on a race bike)...although a mate has a "Lucky Strike" Suzuki scooter for his runabout which is hard case
Handlebar Tassels

I know it's not specifically a bike accessory, but I recon the most commonly bought accessory, would be a tinted/iridium visor.

As for the most desired, I recon suspension upgrades. (most expensive is usually the most desired)

Handle bars - I always change the bars on whatever bike I have.

Me - a new rear tyre for the trumpy... it's first.

Most popular accessories I do

Bikes
Tyres - yes they are sold as an accessory
Bark Busters
Alarms & locks
Luggage & racks

Riders
Leathers - 1 or 2 piece
Kevlar jeans
Helmets - graphics
MX pressure/body armour suits
Boots
Visors - Tint & Iridium
Cameras
A lot of riders are now upgrading the quality of what they are buying. Safety being their main comment.

I have just finished working for an Motorcycle Accessory importer.
I was like working in a toy shop!!

Bloody shame I had to finish Uni & get a real job!!I know... you just have to try on ALL the new gear. For better understanding of product of course. Let alone all the good bits for the bike to drool over. But luckily I don't need (sorry about the swearing) any.

It is my real job

handle bar tassles! brilliant idea! just what Ratti needs to finish his new look. well I might go with pompoms actually. as the new look involves cutting up a crochet peggy square blanky to cover the shiny bits....
thanks for the inspiration!

I'd say an aftermarket muffler would be the most common and first accessory most people think of.

The VFR has a long list of accessories: Staintune muffler, Ventura packrack, Ventura headlight cover, R/R fan, Blue Seas accessory fuse box, bigger AH battery, garage door opener button, brighter bulbs, speedo corrector, Factory Pro Evo Star shifter kit, Ariete 80-degree valve stems, Honda Civic wheelnuts, carbon fibre tank pad cover, carbon fibre indicator blanking plates, flush-mount indicators, Unifilter air filter, modified single-cowl seat cover, Elka 2-way rear shock with remote reservoir, Ohlins fork springs, Ohlins/Raceteck/CKT fork internals, heated grips, manual radiator fan switch, lightened footpeg mounts (got them for free after I trashed the original ones), triple horns (OEM and dual Fiamms), Power Commander PCII, modified wiring loom, lower gearing, modified chain guard, rear hugger (not fitted yet), accessory plug (cigarette lighter socket on a 1m cord), ... hmmmm... I think that's all. So far....

Most Useful: Seatbag. I use it every ride. Closely followed by Paddock Stand. Makes tyre and chain maintenance a doddle. :sunny:

Coolest: Two Bros can. Sounds MUCH more betterer.

Most Comfortable: Heated grips. :ride:

Safest: Race Tech emulators and springs. :done:

Most fun: Stebel magnum horn. Frightens shit out of push-bikers...:devil2:

Most Essential: Mini air compressor for tyre pumping when you get a flattie a million miles from nowhere. Way better than compressed CO2 cylinders.

Most Useless: ATC2K vid camera. Crap quality movies. :argh:

My latest toy already comes with termis and ecu so my first purchase is a slipper clutch and a radar mount. Yet to come is a rear bag and radiator/oil cooler guards....and a pair of BT016 tires...and in September I get to ride it.

cans would be common. Tyres are parts (especially the way I go through them). Heated grips, hard luggage, radar, GPS would be necessary for me, along with all the other mods (and I can't name them all). If I can't buy, I get the shop to make it custom.
