How many bins without them?? Personally I've 'always' worn gloves, one of those common sensical things! :ride: <--see his gloves?

I wore them on my scooter too, and was planning on wearing them. I blame red baron !

Well I wore them most of the time esp in MX days, just when my gloves were to big for me I had about 4 bins(? or 3) and it sucks, its a good way to maul and rip apart your hands, I only didnt wear them for about 3 months because I couldnt afford to get a new small pair, so my rule is no gloves no ride.

Just dont do it gloves are up there with helmets in safety

I crashed in gravel on my first day on a bike,I crashed in the same place on the second day - I have well and truly conquered my enemy and gravel is now my best friend.

I wonder if this first experiance set me on a course to master gravel? I used to always look at my riding and say...what am I having problems with, what scares me? Then I would concentrate on that area.

Anyway....you got past that one ok....have fun tomorrow, and go at your own pace.

so ya, gravel sucks

No no gravel fun :niceone: seriously, the SR250 should handle gravel fine (for a road bike). Go find some gravel roads and practice. I can never understand the sports bike riders that freak out at a gravel road.

Sorry you dropped it (it does happen sometimes on gravel/mud/clay). Glad you're not hurt.

Remember, crashing is the ultimate uncool. Black squishy bits down; pink squishy bits up. Always.

Yeah was a bummer.. bit of a shoulder plant... I was like 'oh fuck' but the bike was just as it was before the bin... indestructable :niceone:

Jeez I have done it again as with john.. talk about the bike before the rider

Sutage became a brand new rider in one night of training :D and i was pleased to see the quick progress from being a shaky round the corners type to being a nice smooth cornering and hillstarting demon :devil2: well done man and tomorrows ride will give you twice as much confidence as compared to tonight!

bummer dude, but its good that you and your bike are ok. Im personaly shit scared of gravel as i havent been riding for all that long and i realy dont know what i can do on the gravel before it bites me in the arse.

As for the gloves, my m8s dad use to ride when he lived in croatia (which i mite say is in medateranium with much warmer climate) and he tells me that he didnt wear gloves that much but now his fingers tend to hurt quiet bad at times. He recons its because of the wind when on the bike with no hand protection, and i herd that wind can be a factor in developing Osteoarthritis Arthritis. But as far as im aware there is not much scientific evidence of this. But Im not a doctor so what do i know

The reason you need gloves are that people instinctively put their hands out in front of them to prevent them falling. So without gloves you'll be in big trouble.

So, go practise. 250's are (usually) excellent for gravel , especially the singles. And if you think riding on seal is fun, then riding on gravel is more fun than a cartload of drunken monkeys with their tails burned off singing dirty limericks whilst wearing jodhpurs. And I can't think of anything funnier than that.

Don't lean the bike to the extent you would on the road.
Favor the back brake over the front.
Keep your speed up.
If you think your going to crash, open the throttle. The worst thing that will happen is you'll still crash.

One glove! Boy I laughed. Then I remembered when I got my gloves from motomail...

Go in, looking for the HJC on special. Get it, cool. Ooh, cheap winter gloves, well, I'll need a pair. Get some dririder ones.

On the way home I'm having fun trying the right one on in the car, wow I say to everyone, why do they have so many labels on both gloves??

Get home, and try both on. First right, then lefffff huh????? wtf is this...

SHIT! they had given me two right gloves (all pre-packaged and everything).....

Funny thing is, is that this keeps happening to me, I even checked the helmet to make sure it was the right one

:killingme :killingme :killingme

I was thinking of posting a pic of me in full gear standing on the driveway. I have everything. Helmet, jacket gloves etc, license etc bike locks etc.

Until this morning. That all changed. My "loved" bike arrived this morning. Its John's old ZZR (do the math - No offence John :D ). Was (and will) make a thread about it, coz I need some advice/help.

A few of us had a chat on the KB ride 2day about you changing your site name from Papparazi (sp?) :whistle:It's a vague reference to WRC where they refer to drivers like Gardemeister as 'gravel specialists'. If you think it sounds too arrogrant, let me know and I'll change it.

As for the name change, I'm just parted with my Nikon F4s body today. The rest of my equipment is up for sale too. Can't be paparazzi without a camera right?

What is with all these bins lately. People, start using your noggin and be carefulIn a sense, these bins where the newbie rider and bike walk away pretty much unscathed (like this one and the one on yesterday's Ak ride), are a good wake up call that will cause the rider to remember to use his noggin and be more careful in future!

Btw, accidents are inevitable in motorcycling, that's why many in here continually emphasize the necessity of investing in good gears. It's encouraging to see most peeps on KB rides wearing *full* protection!

With all respect, and no offence intended, but got to disagree here. Crashs are not inevitable. And can at least be very rare . There are plenty of people on this site that have ridden for 20 years and more without crashing. - Granted here I'm meaning crash as a "proper' crash , not bike falling off stand, forgotting to put foot down when stopping , losing it on the grass at 5kph etc. Or off road/track.

I do think that statements like "accidents are inevitable' are unwise . New riders see them and get the wrong idea ("oh well , everybody crashs so it's no big deal if I do also" ). As will any non-motorcylists who pick up on the sentiment. We have enough problems with parents, partners, bosses etc who think motorcycling is horribly dangerous without reinforcing thestereotype (Yes it is dangerous, but the danger can be mitigated and controlled)

Crashing is always bad. It is the ultimate uncool, and it is not inevitable. Ride safe, slow down! Remember everyone - black squishy bits down, pink squishy bits up. Always.

This does work in gravel or offroad. A big handfull of throttle will often get you out of a shit situation. Or, at least, change the shit situation to a new shit situation. And if you do still drop it, the extra handfull doesn't seem to amke much difference.

BUT DON"T DO IT ON THE SEAL, okay. Or , any rate, not unless you know exactly what you are doing)

Sorry. Not being smart, I know you know the distinction. Just a bit concerned that a new rider might interpret as being a universal remedy. I'm getting a bit paranoid about the new(er) chums crashing lately.
