Just wondering what speed people travel at on the road (i.e. Sunday ride, sunny day, type thing) when by themselves or with others.

That kind of depends on the mood and the company. I am law abiding citizen and dont do more than 100 kph on the open road, for speed kills
I have been known to test the fuel supply through my carbs at sustained throttle sometimes though, they have been the bain of my life really :innocent:

Average 86km/hr for the most part on trips lately.
That is I cover the 86km between Ohakea and Waikanae in exactly 1 hour.

On a trip it seems to average out at around 90km/hr for some reason...

Depends on the kinds of roads - if there are alot of corners, the average is still around 100-120  [And then there are other times]
Welcome to KB. everyday is a different riding day though

Indicated speed on the SV is quite a bit out from actual. I don't have a GPS, but suspect 110kph indicated is approx 100kph actual.
I tend to ride at about 60kph on the motorway so I don't ruin my hairstyle.

Whatever suits the conditions at the time never exceeding the posted speed limit.
I intend starving the government of revenue collected by its agents called Police.

AS far as I can tell, from a couple of measures - including laser gun, distance per time etc etc etc - the SVS reads 107 at 100km/hr. I wouldn't assume you can deduct 10 km/hr from your speed and still be safe...might be a tick over the tolerance levels...

I have a bicycle computer fitted which gives true speed and calculates the average, but I find that what average speed it ends up with is more dependant on how big the towns are that you pass through than anything else.

I regularly accidentally change the speedo from kph to mph and never do over 100.

Oh, was that you I passed, I thought you were parked.
The above is complete bollocks as we all know.

Yea, don't do much over 100 - 110 GPS speed....too many IRD agents masquerading as Police Officers!

My speed largely depends on my mood, if I feell grumpy I drop the bike at least twice on the motoerway or when I feel cranky I might get it into first gear.....

Depends on the conditions, traffic weather etc. I like to sit just over 100kmh, 110max on straight roads. Corners i can see through get what they deserve.

That's not your "average" speed. What you are seeking is peoples's "preferred" speed. Big difference.

My Prefered speed on the open road is 125....There is a "zone" there for me and bike
Otherwise alway under 140 because I do not want to be walking and.....
Always to the conditions...Dry road, good Vis, little traffic, little wind or tail wind up to 135.
Pissing down on a cold, wet, windy, night on a twisty road, with tar snakes, and cars coming towards me who do not dim their lights in time.... I have been known to say "stuff that" and pull into a friends place or a motel for the night.

When travelling point to point, eg. Auckland-Wellington, I'd try to average 100kph, including all stops, 50/70 k zones, etc. This meant open road cruising 130-140 where ever possible (and quicker at times ....). This was easily possible for about 30 yrs - now with the anal approach to policing, it is a little more difficult.
Going for a ride, it would be as fast as felt comfortable, given the road, traffic, riding buddies, etc etc....... generally the zone 100-180 kph, or, again, quicker where circumstances permit.
These days, when I commute (210k round trip), it's around 120-130 on highways, and traffic flow speeds +5 in built up areas - ie - 65-75kph

Last time I was on d'Auckland's Southern Motorway, I travelled 33km in 18 minutes. The odo is pretty accurate according to the speedo checks scattered along that stretch of road. Do the maths and you have an average speed during those 18 minutes of exaccery 110km/hr. Which is about what I was aiming for.
