I noticed on the Hampton downs webiste they are building a brand new gokart track!, do you reaken buckets would have a chance at geting some riding there?, hopefully none of the karters will want it

Hope fully its run by hampton downs but a kart club itself, then all you'd have to show them you'll get alot of riders for them and make it worth their while.

???? Anyone else not understand this line.

I wouldnt be holding my breath that it will happen anytime soon. The kart track was an afterthought and was driven by the fact that a depression at the base of the hill was a pretty good place to place fill wthat they were taking off the rest of the site. They then realised, once the levels had been brought up that this area could be used for somthing, hey what about a Kart track, brilient idea that will get a bit more income through the door. I very much doubt any engineering design or consents are in place for them to do this yet, I wouldnt think anything will happen until the rest of the track and facilities (that are designed and consented) are built, up and running and making money. This is a simular story to the speedway track they are proposing at the site accross the road.

so they' are probualy just taking big then?, i did hear of them thinking of making one a couple years ago, then they stoped it for some reason.

The website says that go-karts have been using the full track at the moment, but it is intended that there will be a small-scale version of the 3.8km International Circuit which should be completed sometime in 2011.

I doubt the cheque-book racer type karters are interested in buckets cutting grooves in their expensive sooper dooper new hampton downs kiss-my-arse suck-my-cock have-another-cuppa-tea smoother-than-ur-mrs-twot kart track.

The filthy bucketeers and minimoto racers are usually consigned to some dark hole somewhere, where they can't do any harm. Maybe we like it that way? ;)

actualy bucketeers get good facilities, we've got royshill, and kaitoke, plus we've got mt wellington, taumaranui.

Bucketeers are not filthy!

I used to organise the pocket bike racing at sliverdale indoor kart track and they liked us.

Thats why I race F4 not buckets :)
and I try not to dump oil all over the track :)

yes F4 thats what we are!

I dont think its a far fetched idea to race their if its run by "HAMPTON DOWNS" not a kart club like all the others.....

Just ride the big track. Not sure what classes are running at the final round of NZSBK but if there are Streetstocks then why not buckets. Buckets are getting as fast as SS these days.

unfortuantly ss150 arnt at hampton downs......buckets are getting up with the ss150 cos if you get a modded 100cc watercooled engine, put it in a 125gp chassis and then run slicks ect.....you've got a clear advantage on a rg150,kr150.... we've been over tihs before,

At hampton downs though, the front straight is so fast the buckets would most likely struggle......compared to the ss150 bikes,

Maybe have a bucket TT at hamtpon downs one day aye!! :Punk:

100cc 2 stroke 125gp blah blah. I was talking about all the fast 4 strokes out there.

na i dont reaken any FXR {even your seriouly fast one} would keep up with a rg150 or krr150......the power difference is huge, and weight aswel.
A good rg150 is about 28HP at the rear and weighs about 90kg.

Well my bike is a little down on HP and 10kg fatter. But with the right rider (not the 6' 2" 95kg one it has at the mo) I am sure there would be nothing in it.

well yes it does come down to rider, i bet a couple of ss150 riders on my cbr so did most the other bucketeers at BRM r1, and my cbr has half the horse power of an RG
Especially on taupo track 2 where it is mostly corners,

SS150 is a learner class, so your not going to get hot riders like you do in the bucket class. But ss150 is a heap of fun, cant wait for this weekend as at the TRRS is the only time ive ridden the bike and i had a broken footpeg which made it hard to change gears. Now ive got a new stronger peg set-up so i can finally ride the thing proberly,

Are you coming to the have a go day on the saturady?, if you want you can take my KRR150 out and compare it to your moto fxr.

Yep will be there. Thanks for the offer but I will be taking every opportunity to get my bike running well that day. Would probably crash it anyway.

Weather is looking good, its great nigel has set up the satuday as a have a go day, you get plently of track time to test your suspension and have time on the bike.

The bike is so reliable so all i have to do is ride it, Ive seen a few of the 150's that have been thrashed all their lives and they give you trouble.

See you there. -Max

1. well yes it does come down to rider,...

2. SS150 is a learner class, so your not going to get hot riders like you do in the bucket class. But ss150 is a heap of fun,

3. Are you coming to the have a go day on the Saturday?, if you want you can take my KRR150 out and compare it to your moto fxr.

1. as does any class, ss150 included..

2. I've never liked the comparison between f4(&f5) vs. ss150. the ss150 was born out of Tim Gibbs & Suzuki NZ (and others) "someone please correct me if I'm wrong here"... the idea of entry level race bikes to get more people into the sport & buy RG150s - (at the same stage as buckets were die'ing out in the central north island; and most buckets were still buckets of sh1t). I think we have seen an evolution over the past 4-5 years, where F4 has moved forward into a class that could be sustained as a supporting entry level race class (even on bigger tracks) as seen down south with the motoFXR. Its still a great learner class and probably teachers more about bike setup and race craft than ss150.

3. I'm coming, I want to kick some ss150 ass with my 30year old pile of crap; or blow it up so i can build a new one :niceone: (more likely).

anyway I'm looking forward to it.

Most ss150 riders {teenagers} ride both but i much prefer a ss150 bike on the big track, i think the ss150 class teach's you more about fast big track racign and its cheap.....try build a 28hp bucket for $1500.......if you have no technical knowledge

I wasn't attacking you. nor the SS150 class (I even did some of the original SS back last century and again 2005/06), I think its great; its a shame there isn't more bikes out there now. - more bikes can require more skill to deal with (braking, passing cornering etc).
and its a real shame that you can't play or improve the bikes (I guess that's what I like more about F4)

you are right 28hp for less than 1500 maybe hard but not impossible.

Personally I find small bikes on big tracks great fun. who needs brakes ???

so they' are probualy just taking big then?

I am sure they have every intention of building the kart track. It is just a matter of when. There is still a shit load of money to be spent to get the rest of track up to the standard expeceted (I am talking out buildings, pits, etc. not just the rest of the international circuit). Its just a matter of money.

i didnt think you were attacking me. small bikes are fun on taupo track 2 but after doing taupo track 1 on a stock fxr150 its funner with more power.

ss150 isnt too small just yet, the bike rider series {which is on same time as the nationals} has attracted 9 ss150 bikes which is a good feild, even most the riders are novices ill still have a good time trying battle the Firn twins

I wish i could ride both ss150 and buckets, but they have combined the both. But ill bring the cbr jsut in case someones bike craps out and they can ride it.

Just making sure.
I would call 9 a worrying sign for a entry level class, it should be full. I assume there is lots of twins ????

make sure you do bring along the cbr, not sure mine will last 2 days of drag racing.

at the trrs there was 14 ss150 riders. Not many twins, peolple seem to start at a later age in the north island.

I think I finnished 5th in ss150 last year on my fxr at the TRRS they ran us all together they blasted past down the straight but the slicks got most of it back on the brakes and on the infeild .

woodyracer
26th January 2010, 19:34
that sounds about right, but ss150 was faster this year, slicks are MUCH better tho......my cbr feels more "planted" on the track than the KRR becuase of slicks VS bt39's......but its fun sometimes having average tires because it keeps you on edge.

Chatted with a guy who had bought a crashed 250 Ninja and was racing it at Levels with the 150's. Interesting that he commented that the 250 handled way worse than the FXR150 that he use to race in buckets. He was running top 5 at Ruapuna in the Nationals.

well i know for sure a hyosung gt250 racebike handles ALOT better than a fxr.....and brakes better too
