View Full Version : Auckland: Biker Boyz! 250cc rides and stuff!

Phreak
27th January 2010, 03:38
Okay, so demand has been on for a dedicated 250cc bike group, so I'm getting it done!

Basically, if you ride a 250, you're welcome. Some of us belong to the Auckland CBR 250 group as well, but I'm making this a seperate entity. So don't feel that it's all Honda's, cause it's not! This is a group for all styles - sports, cruisers, tourers, pretty much anything that's road legal! (The guys from the CBR club are most welcome to come raise numbers of course!)

I plan on setting up weekend rides (as well as occasionally weekday rides for those with weird work hours - Everlasting!), skills development sessions (with EXPERIENCED instructors - if anyone on the forums is keen to help out the fledgelings in this area, drop us a note!) the odd meet up for external activities (motorsport trips, ACC protests, bike wash days? whatever - feel free to add your opinion here!) garage days (to learn how your bike works, dummy!) and heaps of various other little things to get to know other guys and girls with the same passion for two wheels...

As I have only recently gotten back into riding after an absence of a few years, anyone that's keen to help out with ideas, route plans for trips, whatever - PLEASE share your thoughts and opinions!

The way I figure it, most of us are gonna have our 250's for a while - either by choice or not - so why not make the most of it!

Here's a decent loop I've always wanted to do...

(Let's see if this works right...!)

http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=-36.847723,174.780507&daddr=North+Western+Mwy+to:SH+16+to:Port+Albert+Rd +to:North+Shore+City&hl=en&geocode=%3BFf8Pzv0dW3RoCg%3BFYk30P0dIJ5lCg%3BFbge1 v0d3tNmCg%3BFSzLzv0dRmhqCilHFguKuzkNbTFl1nx6O9IJ2A&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=0&sz=15&via=1,2,3&vps=5&jsv=202c&sll=-36.848857,174.773812&sspn=0.016312,0.027208&num=10

Start at the Mobil on Quay Street in the city, with stops in Helensville, Wellsford, and the Puhoi, then finish at the Mobil on Wairau Road on the 'shore...

Only thing is, it's a long ride - if you include a stop in Puhoi it comes to about 180kms...

Thoughts...?

Thats a lovely ride - but be careful on Hwy 16.

I'd also make your starting point the Shell Station at Massey North (at the end of Nth Western Mtwy).

Have a good ride - I'm in Aussie its sticky and very hot.

Starting in the city, you will be somewhat disadvantaged due to riding trough traffic, motorway and traffic lights. If the ride attracts a larger group you have the possibility of the ride being split into uneven groups, running red lights to stay with the group, speeding and generally riding outside their limits (being that it is a 250 group it does happen more often than not) and hence higher risk.

What you want to do is start the ride at Shell Westgate petrol station (as gilli pointed) at the end of the western motorway. This will give you the oportunities to fill up before the ride, have the riders assembled together (plenty of space even for a larger group) and enable the group to generally travel together therefore eliminating the need for riders to try to "catch up" and put themselves in risk while doing so.

<img src="http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=88559&d=1204790335"> </img>

It will be great to get to this ride with you fellas and get the 250 fever started again.

Shiny side up boys and girls.

That looks like a decent ride, but it might be a little long..?

I don't know how to make those route thingies with google maps.

..but one of my fav rides is:

Start at Godley Road Shell,go through titirangi onto scenic drive all the way, then go onto waitakere road, then onto SH16,then turn onto coatesville riverhead highway(another of my fav roads for riding),then onto SH17,then onto SH1,then onto SH18 to westgate.

There are a lot of twisting roads,which I love..:D

I'd suggest missing out Helensville by cutting through Old North Rd and Peak Rd, quite nice roads, much better than the start of 16!

And 180km ain't long at all? At halfway you'll have lunch won't ya. It's only like 2 hours riding total! :Pokey:

So turns out I have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off work this weekend! One of the guys wants to swap some shifts later on in Feb, he's off on holiday for a week and a bit, so he has kindly offered to take my Sunday shift for me if I cover a couple of his while he is away!

SO, who's keen on a ride over the weekend? Still planning on doing a ride on Friday, maybe Sunday as well...?

Okay... Details for the Friday (5th of Feb.) ride are as follows:

http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Asti+Ln&daddr=SH+16+to:Port+Albert+Rd+to:-36.771325,174.739459&hl=en&geocode=FfQmzv0dBVJoCg%3BFYZW0P0d3LhlCg%3BFbge1v0d 3tNmCg%3B&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=3&sz=16&via=1,2&sll=-36.771205,174.741497&sspn=0.008302,0.013797&ie=UTF8&ll=-36.560394,174.58374&spn=0.532785,0.883026&z=10

Meet at the Shell on SH 16 (Asti Lane, Massey North) at 9:30am, depart at 10. (Unless someone is running late - text me on 021-131-6854 or 0275-131-685)

Heading north on SH 16, through Helensville towards Wellsford. Get back on SH 1 southbound, heading back through Warkworth back to the North Shore, final stop one of the Mobil service stations on Wairau Road (cause its close to home for me!)

Assuming everyone is happy with this?

Also, it'd be great if everyone attending can tick the box saying so on the calendar event, so I know numbers to expect.

Thanks!

(IMPORTANT NOTE: Unacceptable behavior will NOT be tolerated - anyone caught riding like an idiot will be politely asked to leave! We DON'T speed; we promote safe riding, and courteous use of the roads at all times! This group is learner friendly, and I intend on keeping the group together as much as possible throughout the day.)

Good ride guys,it was fun!!

Unfortunately coming back there was a ute which had lost it's wheel, lot's of fecking rubberneckers!! Car in front stopped really quickly,so i swerved over to the left, but didn't go far enough over,so the end of my handlebar smashed his tail light, and scratched a big line half way down his car. I hope repairs wont cost too much! No damage to the bike tho...:p

I was bloody lucky i managed to swerve over, otherwise I would have gone right up the rear of his car.

My bike is out of action at the moment, minor mechanical issues that I'm getting sorted out. Just don't wanna push it too far until everything is back up to spec in case it leads to further (more expensive) issues.

Sorry guys.

Phreak
24th March 2010, 09:39
Just to let everyone know, NO this thread hasn't died - I'm just having technical issues with my bike... Here's the story...

Fully serviced my CBR last weekend, thanks in part to the guys at Cyclespot Honda on Barrys Point Road, and she was running like a dream too! Went to a job interview on Monday at the Takapuna council offices, and when I came out I noticed a little piece of paper on the H-Frame... Oh No, I thought, what's happened...
Turns out someone decided to reverse into my bike, pushing it over, then drove off. Fortunately, however, a good samaritan by the name of Moa and the meter lady picked my bike up, as well as getting the Rego Number of the car that hit it. Damage? Some pretty heavy scratching on the right hand bar-end, engine cover, exhaust, and footpeg. And the engine seems to be running a bit rough again. DAMMIT! So, got home, spent about four hours pulling things apart again, checking for anything out of the ordinary - a couple of broken engine braces under the tank, and cleaned some oil out from under the air-filter - thinking I'm gonna take her into the mechanic again before going on any more rides...

Suffice to say though, not impressed. Sorry guys, looks like I won't be out on any rides for at least the next couple of weekends, while I sort my finances out once more.

Phreak
24th March 2010, 21:18
Not sure if I will report it, the guy I spoke to said that it was an elderly couple and that they may have not even realised they backed into my bike... Don't think I would feel very good if they got charged with hit and run or something like that... Damages aren't too expensive, certainly not more than the excess on my insurance, so just gonna sort it out myself... I'm just lucky my nice Repsol fairings weren't scratched up.

Well, still haven't made up my mind anyways.

Jonno.
27th March 2010, 16:35
Dude, tell your insurance and they'll sort it.
If you can back into a bike and not notice, they're dangerous.
It's also unlikely they'd be charged with hit and run.

Gis a yell if you need any help or tools.

The Everlasting
28th March 2010, 16:00

I reckon you should report it,no matter what their age is,they need to take responsibility for their actions, just like I did when I scratched that car a few months ago on the friday ride, the bill ended up being $2209!!!!

Just to let everyone know, NO this thread hasn't died - I'm just having technical issues with my bike...
Sorry about the bike mate! I'm a noob down in the BOP. Still haven't got my first bike yet, but will shortly. If you lot are ever down this way on a ride sometime in the future I'd be interested in joining up with you down this end.

Should they be on the road if they can't see a bike blatently parked behind them!? Sorry to hear bout that mate... On the lighter note to make some of ya jealous I called in sick to work today, went to Barry's Point Rd, checked out bikes, then proceeded onto doing SH16 with not a single car in the way the whole time :D. And still got home before the Jaffa traffic :D:D:D:D. Tis fun.

Okay, so its been a while since any rides were organised for the Biker Boyz, so how about we clean off the cobwebs for next weekend? I see the weather isn't looking the greatest (as of MetService) but summer is gone, hopefully it will clear up closer to the date...

Any ideas? I'm free all day Saturday, working on Sunday though...

Warming up...? I had to ride to Hamilton yesterday (Saturday), nothing but rain! Was a very cold, wet, and miserable trip... Now waiting for all my gear to dry out!

Heh, sucker. I do a lot of night rides and have been needing fewer and fewer layers. It's quite easy in a t-shirt and thin jacket now. Definitely warmer.

Okay, sounds like more and more people are interested in joining the band-wagon, so I'll get my A into G and start sorting out a plan for the summer months ahead... Oh, and just a note - if you ride a bigger bike, you're still welcome to share your experience and/or join us on a ride! I for one enjoy meeting people that share interests, and will greatly appreciate anyone who shares our "way of thinking"... (eg. that you don't have to have the biggest fastest bike on the road to enjoy riding!)

Keep an eye on this thread!!!
