View Full Version : Big Dave is Fury ous
Big Dave

I park the Fury outside Motomail and what happens!
It rides really nicely and is another one of those 'photos don't do it justice machines'.
Initial impression is competent metric cruiser with some reasonably rad styling.
The raked out front end means it's pretty easy to make contact, but I'm quite diggin' the ride.
Nice mill, everything clicks sweetly. ABS and it feels good.
I'd like shinier wheels.

You've been in the sun too long, mate, you're awfully dark...

Looks like their trying to cash in on the Rocker styling

You'd need shades to stop the glare from all that chrome.

chrome flame wheels would match the name quite nicely I think...

What sort of boots is that dude wearing?
Id like another pair of engineer boots: the ones I wear currently have flames on them. Cool, but not stealth wear.
Id like to take one of them for a spin. Theyre expensive as though, right?

Hi Dave,
Emma Chissett?
Gossip on the street has it priced in the very high twenties or very early thirties. I hope not...
Cheers,

John Burns in Cycle World liked it also Said it rode and performed like an actual motorcycle, but he couldnt get over the price at $USD15,995.00 So that late 20's might be right.
Honda pricing is frickin ludicrous generally. Just cos its a Honda why should you have to pay 20% too much for it

Wot? Big Dave's become a Furrie? Shit, that's a frightening thought.

It just doesn't seem right. I mean it's a Honda! It doesn't look bad or anything. I would liken it to maybe Vespa putting out a sports bike, or maybe KTM doing a cruiser.
A Honda custom chopper. hmmmm.

Yeah - I understand what you are saying. But it's 2010. And it's nice. I'll buy anybody's argument that has put the effort, blood and sweat into crafting their own custom motorcycle, if that's what you call street cred.
No - I'm not going to take it to Fight Club (and I don't mean on KB), but I wasn't going there anyway. I do enjoy riding it and find it attractive to look at and it gives me a feel good.
Did you see the pics I put up:

1300cc - No published performance figures I can find yet. They won't be big numbers.
My guess is it's as the capacity would suggest - faster than an America and not a T'bird.
RD; the RRP is $25,999.

You just have to love cruiser philosophy sometimes, as terrible as it is.
Get a gigantic fuckin' motor, chrome as much as you possibly can chrome then add a seat and some wheels.
Done
It's a good look for you Dushy. :niceone:
So this thing is SOHC, 3 valves and two spark plugs per cylinder?
I guess they are just trying to maximise on chrome. :bleh:

I see Honda is going for the 'short rider that wants a mechanical codpiece' market.

Wozzit sound like?
How much does the tank hold?
1300 is too small
I like the look of them but jeez the Pacific peso makes 'em too pricey for what they are
It'll be interesting to see how they sell - off hand I can't see a big market - but whaddo I know?
Big Dave
29th January 2010, 21:55
Only ridden it - not done much research yet - Not sure about tank capacity - but I'm pleasantly surprised by the range. Haven't had to fill it yet.
It's quiet. Standard Metric cruiser quiet. That doesn't bother me either - I live in medium density. The customising catalogue is supposed to be pretty big, so there are probably options on pipes.
It's nice enough on the road that I'm going to ride it down to watch the extreme race at Kawhia on 't.
I remember when a 650 war a big bike.

Sure it's very good and the fact that Honda released it says that it must be good,
BUT - I don't like it t all.

T Bird entry price is $24500: Use to be that Jap bikes were te cheaper, better alternative to Euro. Now because its a Honda, you're expected to pay a huge premium.

I think the tank is 12 litres, fuel injection and what feels like taller gearing than the VTX1300 may be good for economy, no scratcher but rides nice, a slightly louder pipe option is being investigated, no not V&H too loud for me

Didn't end up going to Kawhia - was too wet to take it up 10km of dirt rd.
I will take it out to the Classics over the weekend.
We did the photo shoot yesterday - test in an upcoming issue.
Looked even better with a Ollie riding it.

I tell ya what, for a bloke who is a dyed in the wool sportsbike lover (read into that what you will) I reckon this is just the ticket for cruising down to the Gladdy or Lake Ferry pub with a few mates and having a bit of fun at something less than warp factor 9. It's a bit different to the meat and two veg most of us ride, and if it had a Harley badge on the tank most cruiser folks would think it was cooler than a polar bears arse.
if I could have one with most of the chrome matted/or blacked out I'd be smiling like Michael Jackson on a school bus every Sunday arvo.

I aint fan of cruisers but have to admit that Honda did a good job on making a chopper that is somewhat pratical.

Yep. I've seen many choppers (and I aint just talking bout that tv program about those two yanks(?)) that look the bike or rider wouldn't last 50km on the open road. I dunno, the Fury just looks like it has enough extreme without crossing over to the absurd that most choppers seem to do.

Well I think it looks quite good and big applause for Honda going a bit away from the ordinary. I'd like a ride cause it looks like fun but as your only bike it would be rather limiting and unpractical. 9/10 for effort.
I agree with the sparkly wheels upgrade, I am however confused....What's that bloomin big hole 'twixt tank and engine at the front, is it for keeping your take out warm or sommat? ;)
