old /new trick for KB racers.

The rules for racing don't allow the use of glycol in your race bike cooling system.
The stuff is as slippery as oil and a bitch to clean up (cement dust plus a water based product equals a muddy slurry.)
What a lot of people -including me do is put water in the system which is fine for racing-not so fine for the motor as it causes corrosion and -as I discovered can end up with chewed out water pump seals.
One really neat trick is -after every meeting -drain all the water out and fill the system up with glycol
You dont have to bleed the system-just get the glycol in there.
day before the meeting -drain the glycol out and put the water back in.
Of course the alternative is to put in the alchohol based coolant and carry the spec sheet around for scrutineering.

from my limited understanding its as good as oil on the track if dropped. (could be wrong)

a good idea frosty but heres what i do...
i use a product from silkolene called ProCCA. its a coolant thats glycol free which has anti corrosion properties. best of all you only need to mix 1:100 (1%) to water!!! so the 500mL bottle can pretty much out last the bike (well maybe not mella yella, that things a solider!). i brought this cause im not a fan of using straight water as it is a bit hard on the motor/ radiator

Speaking from lab experiance, it is flamable and also is pretty nasty as a fixative and a carcinogen...

But I don't know the full reason as to why they banned it

Its very slippery if ya spill in on the track and hard to clean up with the old cement dust

You can get race legal coolant (well,I can and you can buy it from me) but it's expensive,I can get Silkolene and Penrite.But the green coolant you buy is made of quite a few components,glycol is just one of them.The coolant has lubricants and anticorrosive additives,you can but these separatly.I don't work on trucks anymore,but coolants became a big issue about 30 years ago when HP figures came up to 300hp - now most truck shops make their own coolants...they have seperate lubricant and corrision additives,you can possible buy these yourselves and add as you see fit.Convincing officials is another matter.

i got it from hamilton M/C centre for $29.95, dont know if it promises anything like your 10% i just got it cause it was glycol free and thats what i was reconmended to run by my shop (hamilton M/C).

Both claim better cooling through reducing surface tension of water. Neither contain glycol.

Which would save you a lot off pissing about draining and refilling the cooling system after and before each event and leave you more time to work on more important things
